FWIW, I was in a similar situation a few years back. Took the shitty assignment, made the best of it, and left AD when I had the chance. So far the water's nice in the ARC. Don't regret my decision at all, and actually took some good things away from the unwanted assignment while fulfilling my original commitment. Good luck with whatever route you choose.

C-17 Pilot Charged in Training Jump Death
Prozac replied to Fifty-six & Two's topic in General Discussion
Damn. Sorry safety guy. I want you to be able to do your job. But I'm not going to be able to chat with you anymore. I'll miss our talks, but you understand, right? Congrats Jared.....sorry you had to be the poster child for a lot of what's fucked up about our Air Force. -
What happens to your paycheck when the American people decide taxes are immoral?

Where do I get tickets to this?

Jeb is not his brother. I think it would be a move in the right direction for the party. Somewhat centrist, he'd probably pull in more than a few independents and may secure FL in a national election. And to the story Rainman linked......wow. These are the schools my kids will be attending soon. Guess I'd better start saving for private school.

Saddle up for Syria? Or Op Deny Christmas '13
Prozac replied to brickhistory's topic in General Discussion
Been hearing this argument a lot lately. I can certainly understand why people are concerned, but I think there's a big difference between "we're pretty certain they have WMD and we think they're hiding them here" and "we think they have sarin/vx/etc, and we have credible intel that they are putting it on weapons delivery systems". I also like all of the folks who say "I just don't understand why we don't at LEAST establish a no fly zone". Victim of our own success I guess. -
Repubs are already talking Jeb Bush in 2016. Might not have a bad shot against Hillary. Apparently the elder Bush, who is usually quiet, has been doing some public pushing for the party to change course as of late.

Everybody is already way too happy there (I mean what's a better assignment right? MAYBE Hickam) so they figured they needed to take you all down a notch. Dude, I am so glad I let that fucking place! You getting paroled any time soon?

I wanted to ask this question SOOO bad in my SARC brief. While sexual assault is nothing to be taken lightly, I think Big Blue has taken a completely ass backwards approach to the issue by insisting we all attend some worthless man-hating class. I feel for the fighter guys right now. We'll see if this shit eventually rolls down to the MAF. The only thing I an say is look at the current CSAF, and look at the last one. As bad as things turn out, it probably would've been worse a year ago.

200th Airlift Squadron
Prozac replied to Velosprints's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
It'll suck if that unit goes away. C-21s in C Springs has got to be one of the best gigs in the AF. That said, I wouldn't turn my nose up at a herc either. I recently left the AD, and although I ended up continuing my career in tankers, I didn't take any options off the table. I'm sure crossing the pond in a 130 sucks balls, but there's something to be said for the mission set that plane is capable of. No one I know who flies hercs is bored (except maybe on those ocean crossings). -
Anybody know what the current ROE are for transient crews at Iwakuni?

Navy had the most current one. I think all the Japanese care about is that it was an American serviceman.

Oh, Jesus.

Soon it will gain self awareness......and learn how to flare.

Touche....My statement was tongue in cheek though. I routinely hear ridiculous shit come out of the mouths of people who are supposed to be educated and they are dead serious. I'm sick of the "Obama's a Socialist and here's why..." argument. An argument against the man's policies should be able to stand on it's own. All you do (not you specifically) when you start an argument like that is shut down the listening capabilities of anyone who doesn't already agree with you. BTW this isn't just directed at conservatives--there's plenty of ridiculous left wing bullshit out there as well as evidenced by watching 15 minutes of MSNBC at any time of day.

Thanks for including me in such nice company. My point was that rhetoric is not helpful in situations like the one we're in and often times is misleading at best. There are lots of people who are very smart when it comes to the economy and good arguments have been raised on both sides of the issue. It's kind of hard to evaluate them when you're confronted with more bullshit and hot air than facts both in the mainstream media, and in casual discussion.

Hey, you guys know who else was a Socialist? Ronald Reagan. I mean jesus, the man raised taxes somewhere between 8 and 11 times depending on which sources you look at. Apparently that's now the threshold for calling someone a socialist. So there you have it folks; Reagan was secretly in cahoots with the Soviets all that time....whoda thunk?

Europe uses a similar model. It's usually called a Value Added Tax or VAT. It works to varying degrees over there. Might not be a bad idea here, but I haven't heard too many politicians suggest it. WRT the phone thing, would somebody please post some concrete data on the whole obamaphone program. My cellphone is getting kind of old and I'd like to replace it. I figure, since I voted for the guy, he owes me some of these "gifts" that I've been hearing about. I went over to this site: https://obamaphone.net/ and filled out a bunch of personal information and I still haven't seen my new phone.

I think the Dems would be wise to consider the whole 'Mandate' thing carefully. It bit the Republicans in the ass a couple years ago. I agree that everyone needs to compromise. This country is very much divided and if the Dems strong-arm their agenda you may see another swing at the midterms. That said, the Republicans will have to give up more than they were willing to a few months ago. I believe they will, as they've realized they're not going to help their image by digging in their heels on this one.

Foul. I think if you say it 2 more times you summon him. Careful.

Lots of influential people did a lot of shitty things throughout history. You have to look at these things in the context of their time, not ours. Problem solved. Now, can we get back to movies? Rented 'Avengers' last night (I think I was one of the three people in the country who didn't see it in the theater) and was surprisingly entertained. Even the wife stayed interested. Also bought 'The Lorax' for the kids. I'm not usually the kind of person who will criticize a kids movie or show for being overtly filled with rhetoric, and while the movie was cute, I have to say that I take issue with it's message that chopping down a tree is a mortal sin. Send the message that you have to manage resources carefully: ok. Send the message that they are untouchable: not so much.

This is what I got out of it when I went. It was a good chance to go out and drink beer with a bunch of folks I never would've hung out with otherwise. I didn't take much from the academic side, and didn't spend all my time trying to be DG, but thought it was an overall good experience. Hell, we even found a way to enjoy the flickerball. Like most things, it's all about what you make it and what you decide you want to take away from it.

The political parties of the time were far different from the parties of today.

Did you see the picture above of the OV-10 on the back of the Boxer? Why don't you guys pull those things out of the boneyard? Or better(?) yet, take Boeing up on their proposal to build some new ones. You could probably have a squadron of those things for the cost of one F-35.
