They may well have initiated the reject before, or just as tower was canceling their clearance. Tower was right on top of it though so good on them for vigilance.

That crew was more wrong than a football bat. IIRC we had some “leadership” in the community at the time that was admonishing crews for RTBing after pressurization failures (quite common in the airframe at the time). Couldn’t have helped their already questionable decision making.

You’re making my point for me. Wouldn’t you rather have this go through the judicial system than have DOJ assume they can do whatever they want? Of course, there’s a risk the ruling will go their way, but that’s how our system works. Not everyone is going to like every result.

I noticed a kid at my son’s bus stop wearing a mask this morning. I asked him if her parents were back to household masking. He said “nope, she’s just got a little cold & is masked up until she feels better”. This is a cultural shift that I can actually get behind & might be one of the few good things to come out of the pandemic.

To be fair, they aren’t really trying to get the mask mandated re-instated. DOJ is in court because it believes it should have the right to mandate such measures during times of crisis. Their position is that the courts wrongfully stripped them of such right. You’re certainly free to disagree with DOJ’s position. I have mixed feelings, personally. I actually think it’s a good thing this is being litigated because it will set a precedent going forward. Let’s look at this for what it is though (the system, doing what it’s supposed to do) and not get into the histrionics & misdirection of saying the DOJ wants to re-institute masks at this time.

Uhhh, while I certainly agree that there is a good amount of evidence pointing to the man made/enhanced theory, exactly where are you getting information that this was a military bio-weapons project? Far, far more likely that lax Chinese controls & procedures allowed this to escape from a run of the mill virus/disease research facility (research which virtually every developed country in the world does btw). “Partially funded by Fauci”; You mean the CDC? Or did the evil Dr Fauci put his own money into the project in the hopes of drastically reducing the world’s population and, in the ensuing pandemonium, taking his seat alongside Soros, Xi, and Bill Gates to rule the world from a volcano island somewhere in the Indian Ocean? If you mean the CDC, honest question: do you think it’s good or bad that the CDC has a presence in other countries, especially ones where outbreaks of novel viruses have been known to occur? While there may be some valid arguments regarding whether the risk/reward matrix was in our favor for the type of research being done (MAY be: the arguments have been so twisted by all sides at this point, it’s hard to know what was actually happening), I’d argue that it’s better the CDC (and WHO, for all its faults) had some eyes on the ground in the PRC than not. Look, there’s a lot of good discussion about what was done right & wrong by various actors during this pandemic. Did vaccines work as well as we hoped? No. Were they completely worthless in combating spread and symptoms? Also no. Have the vaccines themselves injured millions as is the current speculation from the nutjobs? Certainly not. Did we royally fuck up our kids by closing schools for a couple years? Boy, I hope not, but time will tell. It certainly wasn’t good for most of them. The list of things that could’ve gone better is long and distinguished & hopefully we’ve learned something for the next one. And yes, politicians did what they tend to do and capitalized on some aspects of the response to further their own ends. Is that evidence of some overarching cabal that can be bent to fit whichever narrative you’d like it to? Fuck no. It means humans did human shit. Some of it was good. Some of it was bad. Simple as that. BL: lots of valid arguments here, but when you start in with the stupid conspiracy shit, you (rightfully) get thrown into the nut job pile & people stop listening to you.

A “follow the greens” system would probably be simpler & cheaper. JFK‘s taxiways are a mess, especially if you aren’t a regular. The Alpha/Bravo making a loop around the terminals & then becoming separate parallel taxiways is retarded. A cheap & easy immediate fix would be to simply rename them to something logical. Another would be to instill a little patience into the controllers. There are plenty of crews who only see that place once in a while & if you ain’t a local, it gets convoluted real quick there.

I dunno man. Kinda hard to tell a sovereign nation to stop fighting for every inch of territory that’s been annexed by an aggressor. If the Ukrainians are willing to fight for the next 20 years, & tie up the Red Army in the process, I say let ‘em & provide whatever weapons are reasonable for that end.

This is true of most large organizations. It’s why I chuckle and sigh whenever I hear someone advocate one of the many popular conspiracy theories that are out there these days. Incompetence & coincidence are FAR more plausible than global cabals.

Just…wow. People are afraid of a lot of shit these days. Global pandemics, rogue asteroids, murderous immigrants, cancer, turbulence, lightning strikes, financial collapse, zombies. Some of those threats are more real than others. You know what everybody really should be absolutely terrified of: nuclear annihilation, ‘cause that’s still far and above the most likely way the human race ends. So yeah, an unstable dictator who offs anyone who produces information that displeases him and has the stated intent of reconstituting one of the most oppressive empires the planet has ever seen is, most assuredly, a threat.

Brotha, I think most here would call me fairly progressive but even I have a limit regarding ridiculousnesses. 😎 As any professional pilot knows, the NOTAM system has been badly broken for a loooong time. It’s absolutely gang loaded with chaff written by lawyers. I remember when one particular base got completely overloaded with NOTAMs describing every obstacle over 50ft within a couple miles of any direction of any runway, lest anyone forget that that particular area happened to be wooded. Meanwhile, the NOTAM about the ALS being out of service was poorly written & buried somewhere between the obstacle stuff & one that I think was about BQZip’s mom’s mass having an effect on local weather systems. Hopefully Mayor Pete sees an opportunity to do some good here. Maybe he can even work with our former congressman who might be pining for the SOT position once Buttigieg becomes Klobuchar’s (why are all their names so fucking hard to spell?) running mate. 😉

See our previous discussion. I do not believe either party is remotely serious about tackling national debt. Conservatives like to rattle that cage, but watch what they do, not what they say. So, no, I do not believe national debt should play any meaningful role in this debate.

Good points all. If there’s a debate about supporting Ukraine, this is it. On the question of whether the fallout of a long war in Europe’s breadbasket are worth it, I think most Americans will say yes. We’re willing to live with some relatively minor inconveniences in order to support the Ukrainian people & bleed our adversary. Of course, people in places like sub Saharan Africa are suffering much more. Is it worth it to them? Should their suffering factor into our decisions? Is there a racial aspect to supporting Ukrainians while ignoring suffering in Africa? All questions we should be contemplating. Regarding depleting our own munitions stocks; I simply don’t have the information to have an informed opinion on the topic, & neither do the vast majority of Americans. Be nice to see some of our more so-called ‘serious’ media outlets covering this angle. Bottom line: there ARE some thorny issues to confront when deciding whether or not to support the Ukrainians. National debt? Not one of them.
