  1. It's also possible this commander is, as many are today, hyper-vigilant in protecting his own career. Say the everyday typical student buffoonery happens, but this time it happens in a critical phase of flight requiring split second reaction time to correct it. Perhaps it's compounded by weather, gusty winds, com noise, etc. Metal gets bent and the CC is notified. The CC sits down behind his desk and weighs his options: "This IP made a mistake that any one of us can reasonably make with a bad student in poor conditions. I can call this IP in, lecture him, put him on a couple CT sorties, and perhaps have him give a squadron safety brief. I could go to bat for him at the OG and WG meetings. But metal was bent on my watch. What if it happens again? I'm going to get a lot of face time with the OG and WG over this and what if they think I didn't go far enough? If I give him a CC-directed Q3, it may be a little overkill, but then I have a high-vis corrective action paper-trail that I can wave around in the meetings letting them know that I'm an aggressive problem solver, and perhaps this won't affect my next assignment or chances for 0-6."
  2. One of my first Herc instructors told me the first step in any emergency was "wind your watch." I'm sure there will be a significant response, but I want it to be carefully considered and appropriately measured.
  3. Ugh. Get rid of this dude. He's clogging up the activity feed with this stupidity.
  4. Is it the same stick up your ass?
  5. Things I've learned in almost 22 years: If your rank and position can't solve a problem by making a simple request, it's not your problem to solve. If you feel someone may make you lose your composure, go to the parking lot. Get in your car. Maybe stop for beer and steaks. Go home. Maybe try again tomorrow. Maybe don't. Unless you're deployed, nothing in the AF is that important.
  6. Must be. He repeatedly shows up on my "All Activity" feed for negative vote bombing users' old posts.

Haha. There's literally dozens of surveys and reports if you google anything pertaining to military spouse employment. https://www.uschamberfoundation.org/sites/default/files/Military Spouses in the Workplace.pdf

You nailed it. On AD with my wife in the 2000s, we had 9 addresses in almost 10 years, and she couldn't hold much more than part time work. Leaving AD gave her the ability to start a career and it had an enormous positive impact on her state of mind and our relationship.

I wondered that recently, too. I just looked and this is the only recent update I've been able to find. https://footstepsresearch.org/2018/12/what-we-know-hbos-masters-of-the-air/
  10. Our CC told us the same. A rescheduled drill period must be processed as if you are requesting orders. One rescheduled drill per year for pay. You can miss more than one drill, but just won't be able to reschedule them. What the hell is NGB thinking? Give traditionals a $20K/5yr bonus with one hand, then bitchslap them with the other.
  11. The others are right, I shouldn't encourage you to commit an error of omission on your paperwork. Good Luck. I hope you can pull the trigger.
  12. https://www.businessinsider.com/air-force-plan-to-revolutionize-pilot-training-2019-5?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EBB+05.07.19&utm_term=Editorial+-+Military+-+Early+Bird+Brief&fbclid=IwAR3gx6O-yrw7QphGG9TME3z3GsHqNgQ1J0FDMQ_-a9gEQuHpiBsWrpNaF7M in a nutshell: The trainer fleet is aging, funds are drying up, aircraft are prone to breaking, weather sucks, the only good range space is in the South Pacific, and pilots are leaving because they are dissatisfied and lack of sense of purpose. The answer is virtual reality flying.
  13. When you take mil leave from the airline, you still accrue seniority, sick time, vacation, company 401K contributions, avoid bad schedules, get days off that you wouldn't normally be able to get, etc. I was joking above because increasingly, none of that is worth the a$$ pain of dealing with all the dysfunction when taking mil leave anymore (for me). If you're routinely taking mil leave with the intent of not meaningfully participating, you're costing your company money and F'ing up the seniority system. Most people are legitimately serving, others are scamming.
  14. For the past while, I’ve been abusing my unit’s “Airline leave of absence policy” to improve quality of life.
  15. Any other sins you would like to document forever on Air Force bureaucratic paperwork? Ever lie, cheat, steal, jerk off to pics of your step sister? Don't be dumb. You didn't smoke weed once.
  16. LOL. "What's Frat?" - every Guard unit.
  17. If you're submitting apps, I'm assuming your intention is to go Guard/Reserve. If you plan on doing only Guard/Reserve for several years, I'd recommend airlift/airdrop. Lots of variety in the mission, always challenging to achieve "greatness" in your position. If you plan on being a part-timer and flying civilian as well, fly tankers. I think it looks slightly better on a resume and the currency requirements are fewer. I've always found it difficult to meet all the airdrop/airland currency requirements without having to sacrifice at the airlines and still have a home life. Merely one dude's opinion. Good luck.
  18. Speaking of meltdowns...
  19. Congrats! It's not just sport bitching if you're voting with your feet.
  20. Are you trying to take the bonus or are you separating?

Who are you applying to that cares about ACSC? Getting a Project Manager cert, CDL, HVAC license, or iPhone screen repairman online degree would likely make you 10x more desirable than ACSC.
  22. Go Guard/Reserve and fly civilian. Work your careers in parallel instead of in sequence. Stay on orders and fly for the Guard when the regional flying gets you down. Get your PIC hours at the regional when the military stuff becomes a pain in the ass. Granted, ROTC will be a cake walk for you. You'll be the old man rockstar in a crowd of teenagers at band camp. Say you commission at 29. The state of the AF then will be the best it will ever be. You have approx 13 years to go. Your first couple years at your first duty assignment will be the best of your life. Then you become Chief of Cubicles flying once a week staring at the calendar with 8-9 years to go.
