  1. Disagree with your huge culture divide with respect to the herk community. Culture divide yes, huge no. If you talked to your line herk pilots, 90% would be chomping at the bit to do more with the herk, especially regarding weapons or sensors. The issue is the risk adverse leadership above the squadron and group. Also, we have enough beans and missions as it is that it would be difficult to maintain proficiency in an even more diverse set of tasks. Slick J models do everything MCs do except air refueling, FARP and one or two airdrop varieties. There’s a reason ac-130 crews don’t haul cargo and airdrop as well. They could dual qual ac/mc, but you’d have probably get a poor product.
  2. As a suggestion.. use your GTC for booking and pick-up of a rental car because you fall under the governments negotiated insurance policy.. upon return, if no damage to the car, have them switch the payment over to your personal credit card so you can get the points. My friend only only uses his GTC for DTS airline travel and the above rental car scenario. 10 yrs, airlift guy, no issues
  3. Congrats! How much time were you asking off, which ADSC and what’s your AFSC? If you don’t mind. Looking for trend data.
  4. Copy, I plan to establish a separation date right at the one year out point--I'm not too concerned with showing my cards early. But, there is a 6 month window prior to being able to establish the separation date, yet still vulnerable to get tagged with a deployment that will take me past my ADSC that I'm concerned about. I know it's not common to get tagged 12 months prior to a deployment, but it's not unheard of either..
  5. This is my understanding as well.. I’d love to find out I’m wrong. In the event I’m not.. any ideas on how to avoid this?
  6. Heard a rumor recently, but am not knowledgeable on the right pubs to investigate myself.. My UPT ADSC expires in two years and I want to separate at that time. I’m currently in an X-Band and expect I’ll get tagged for a deployment. My vulnerability period runs from 8 months prior to 2 months prior to my ADSC. Day one of my deployment can fall anywhere in that 6 month window, and I can expect a 6 month deployment. I’m told I can get tagged for a deployment up to 12 months out. But, I can’t apply for separation until 12 months prior to my ADSC. Which means there’s a large window where I can tagged with a deployment that will take me past my ADSC, without having had the opportunity to drop papers and since I’ll have been tagged with a deployment, can’t separate til I return. Does this sound right to you guys? I’ve heard this from a few individuals and get lost in the AFIs when I attempt to figure it out. While I don’t really want to do a non-flying deployment, it is what it is.. I definitely don’t want to extend past my ADSC. Palace Chasing is the only thing I can think of that may protect me from this situation.
  7. I’m not an 11R.. but I can’t imagine the multitasking in a E-3/8 or RC is that difficult for the front end.. I’m gonna guess U-28 since he’s looking to move to a crewed aircraft.
  8. Seems like an awesome mission. Also interested in the MC-130 question.. although I’m just a slick pilot with two years on my ADSC..
  9. Are contributions from my service also mine to keep if I separate from service? This is where the word “vested” comes in. Being vested means having ownership. To be fully vested in your account means you are entitled to all of the funds in it. Like any uniformed services member with a TSP account, BRS members are always vested in their own contributions and their earnings. They're also immediately vested in Service Matching Contributions and their earnings. To become vested in Service Automatic (1%) Contributions, however, you must have completed at least two years of service. If you’ve completed two years of service before you opt in, you’re immediately vested in your entire account. https://www.tsp.gov/PDF/formspubs/tspfs01.pdf
  10. Who doesn’t stay for two years though.. the vesting is a non issue for 99.9% of the military population. I switched to BRS, The likelihood of picking up a retirement seems pretty slim to me.. I’ll serve in the guard/reserve to fulfill my sense of duty to our country, but I’ll count on my future airline job to achieve a comfortable retirement. So in the end, the difference between 40% and 50% at age 60 seems pretty meaningless.
  11. That checks, it’s a previous write up.
  12. You’re right, it does matter and absolutely needs to be corrected. But it should’ve been corrected months ago with a swift “No!” From CSAF. Again, I’m not affected by this policy SNAFU, but it seems like dumb ass policies without oversight is situation normal. It probably has been since the 40s.. just seems more magnified now.
  13. Someone should tell the Generals.. it doesn’t matter if they fix this problem, the trust has been lost a thousand times over. I’m not affected by these ADSC shenanigans, but I’m on the lookout for the next time the Air Force will try to screw its personnel over without any of the Generals knowing about it.. allegedly that is.
  14. I’d consider editing your post.. unless you don’t want to remain anonymous
  15. Second assignment, it’s when I figured out we really don’t want to or have a plan to win these wars and conflicts.
  16. I got a bit excited at this idea earlier.. but the more I think about it, no way my CC is going to let me out six months early while my position goes unfilled... he’s a good dude, but it would not be good for the unit. Oh well.
  17. Too lazy to look it up.. how many Americans emigrate to Scandinavian countries? How many Scandinavians immigrate? Wonder which model America should continue with?
  18. Off topic, not a Jack Ryan, but I always thought Red Storm Rising would make a good single season TV series
  19. Try looking at your training reports. Mine have it broken out
  20. Agreed. Also, they need to hire some better mil advisors..
  21. Congrats!
