FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Learjetter replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
The kind that the clue light comes on late for. The kind that just realized that the talent the AF needs to keep is the very talent most desperate to leave. -

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Learjetter replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
For my guys' RRFs, I've asked them to submit inputs...I expect most (all) to submit said inputs, as no RIF-eligibles here seem interested in VSP. If they don't, I'll write the PRF for the senior rater's endorsement. In short, we're doing RRFs exactly like we do PRFs. -
Live on base.

I've been Q coded / in EFMP for 15 years...do the 2792s and 1466s early, take an active role in coordinating everything with everyone. Never had a hiccup on any assignment.

Back then, due to radar and onboard altimetry inadequacies, you had to have 2000' separation between FLs, and RVSM was in its infancy. So NEODD/SWEVEN didn't always work: FL330 was eastbound, 350 westbound, 370 eastbound, 390 westbound, etc... So FL410B430 eastbound was "wrong way" and you could ask ATC for the block, spend time at FL410 off oxygen, then go higher and save fuel (but wear the hose). I'll edit the offending post... Edit again: spelling is tough

I did a wrong way FL410B430 at long-range cruise from Vandenburg to Maxwell that netted us a 5.2 and we had 986# in the wings at shutdown. Back in the day...Typically, if you're not a new UPT guy, you'll be a seasoning pilot for a few months, then an AC for half a year, then an IP for two years. The jet is fun to fly (a little cramped) and training out & backs are fun. Missions begin to suck after the first 20-30 sorties. AMC rules are mostly common sense, or completely ridiculous, and tried/tries to kill all the fun, but some remains. If you get a choice, pick Ramstein, COS, BLV, and ADW, in that order. Good luck! Edit: FL410B430 (non RVSM Class A rules)

If they PCS-d you (not 365 Itdy), you could be vulnerable, since you're at your PDS. If you're on a 365 Itdy, you are likely NOT vulnerable for a 179 until 6 mos post return from the TDY...but they CAN task you NOW to deploy exactly six months after your return...

Good luck finding some...and be careful what you wish for...

There's a WHOLE lot more to Airpower than just CAS and ISR. Guessing that might have something to do with it. Eta: hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20...

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Learjetter replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Almost every one I've ever known (15 of 16 commanders in 22 years, in three communities) has had this attitude. It's far more prevalent than the douchenozzles who are often described on this board... -
Your Sq will also pressure you to use the club and their beer. So, use the club from 4-5pm, tell a few stories, light fare, no one drinks. Then, arrange a "real" celebration somewhere else, or even off post, and enjoy your kegs. Requirements met, everyone wins.

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Learjetter replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Reality check: "eligible" for VSP/TERA is just that. You fit the category as defined in the PSDM. It does NOT mean the AF wants you out...esp if you are a 11x or 12x. AF has broadly and generally set eligibility criteria...and says they'll batch process apps at the end of every month. There are four kinds of people left in the AF: the kind who want to be in and the AF wants in (rated)...the kind who want out but the AF wants in (also rated), the kind who want to stay but the AF wants out (road, fatties in easy jobs, those terrified of the outside but serve only to take up space in line at the med clinic), and those who want out, and the AF wants to let out (discipline problems, and A FEW rated). VSP/TERA eligibility is broad, but approvals will be very very targeted to the types the AF wants out. Hint: it's NOT rated folks. -
Turning down an assignment but still have commitment
Learjetter replied to ARAMP1's topic in General Discussion
There's a reg that covers ADSCs (too lazy to look it up just now)...I'll paraphrase: if you decline the ADSC that accompanies PCS orders, it's the equivelant of a 7-day opt, and you will be forced to set a separation date at the end of your current ADSC. ETA: and, yes, AFPC could still elect to move you w/o the ADSC, but it's very rare, and your Sep date stands. -
Gracias, Liquid. I was considering scrolling thru the AF JAG & court of appeals site for that data...just felt lazy, I guess. Appreciate the words.

Reminds me of the Cannon Lt that took off for a couple weeks...whatever happened to that guy?

Do not attempt to apply logic or reason. It's not about capability, it's about numbers in time-phased categories that appear to be capability. -

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
Learjetter replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Because the bonus means AFPC stops having to think, and Sq/CCs don't have to think, because people on the bonus are "all-in." It's a trap, and AF leaders won't have to learn to properly lead/inspire people in service, or properly manage careers, until it's no longer an option. I've said it before: kill the bonus, and reduce UPT commitments to six years (max)...everyone wins! -
I've had allergy to PCN/SULFA also since childhood. Been in over twenty years, no waivers ever for it, not DQd...but rules sometimes change over time. Go read deaddebate's stuff in his signature block and see if you really are DQ/waiverable. Good luck.
-
It's easier than that: just eliminate the data fields on SURFs and DQHBs and such that contain the AAD info. For all officers. Create an SEI for tech or specific job-required AADs, and award it as necessary. I'm going to continue to wear my Friday name tag as I always have...and now will encourage others too, as well!

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Learjetter replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
I'm doing one-on-ones for any of my guys that ask (and one or two who didn't ask). Mostly, folks are less concerned about themselves, and more concerned about our staff unit (nice attitude to display, BTW)...we're sending 14 of our assigned 23 (authorized 35!) aviators out the door to PCS, school, etc by summer...with ZERO inbounds on the books. Gonna be a bumpy year... -
What does "in the midst of...(hopefully) mean? Are you already a Herc FE...or are you trying to become one?
