  1. She had help, maybe? "Insider" to deliver the goods?
  2. Good points, all...but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. I think 69% of the four-star's (& some 3&2 stars) home station duties are social/civic/protocol-driven events. An aide and a cook are necessary perks to ensure all those things, and requisite travel, run smoothly. One ex: The GO's car belongs to the Trans sq...one of their sharp troops has the responsibility to ensure its G2G daily. Again, it's on the officer to not ABUSE or permit ABUSE of those "perks." And the spouse should understand the aides do not work for the spouse. I've been an Exec in a couple wings/groups/staffs, worked fairly closely with a dozen GOs...all were far more busy than I ever was...but it wasn't the same kind of work. Four/three stars do not WORK even the way a Colonel "works". They say Lt Col is the last "working rank" for a reason. Bottom line for me: GOs aren't "royalty", don't "deserve" aides, but those aides (cooks, luggage handlers, etc) free the GOs time to spend on more important things. And, usually, the aides (enlisted, too) benefit from the tour with "good" follow-on assignments.
  3. It's a helluva lot more efficient to pay a two-striper to rake leaves than a four star. You think the President should rake leaves at the White House? That the VP cut his own grass at Annapolis? The "perks" the SES/COCOMS/MAJCOM CCs "have" are SPECIFICALLY designed to increase their efficiency and effectiveness. It's on them to NOT engage in abuse of those "perks."
  4. The senior leaders I work with agree with this 100%. Their theory: The kids who think this way will put service before self all the time, happily take the bad deals, won't miss the cockpit while killing themselves on staff, and, when they become Sq/CCs, will perpetuate themselves! Won't need an ACP bonus if we get enough of these guys. And the easy "tactical stuff" (you know, winning air combat, putting the airdrop when/where it needs to be, supporting the rifleman, etc) will take care if itself over time! The Coroprate Air Force, that's our REAL battle space...where we need our budget warriors, our planner commandos, our "officer first!" Teammates! So, if you joined to fly drive jets...sorry, your country is calling, so stiff upper lip and all that old chap, and enjoy your ops tour....we need you on the staff. I know I've been lucky to fly 14 years straight...
  5. "If Palestine were to lay down their guns tomorrow, there would be no war. If Israel were to lay down theirs, there would be no Israel." - Benjamin Netanyahu
  6. Pretty sure Clinton was impeached for perjury...not for boffing the intern(s)... In the end, it doesn't matter does it? He's through, America's lost another role model, and it's a damn shame.
  7. You wrote he "was giving" ART 15s. I doubt that. No matter. My real issue was with timing: I understand the affair to be a more recent event, like after he retired. If it was, GO1 punishments were valid. If not, you're 100% right. Just like when the CinC (Clinton) was foolin' around with Lewinski and the military was still court-martialling adulterers.
  8. Doubtful...if he was double-dipping as a four star in Afghanistan (the "affair" timeframe is unknown, at least to me), it's very very unlikely any of the folks he rated were. He would probably not sign ART 15s that could be handled by lower echelons. My opinion only.
  9. Billy--get TMO to get your goods picked up the last week of Nov (for storage while TDY), move out and into TLF/lodging/hotel until your final out. This is what your BAH & DLA is for.
  10. "Every Airman has a story" Glad it worked out well for them, but I have no such feelings for the sumbitches who've shot at, and hit, my aircraft and vehicles. Granted, I missed out on OAF, and my shooting wars were in Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan....but I would sure as shit "return to those places in a war machine" as ordered, and happily. And until we eradicated every last vestige of a credible threat to peace and liberty.
  11. What??! Really? With no OPR? No fucking wonder they're not making O3. To answer the question: officers (even Lts) should Lead something. even if its just the weekly commissary run. Recommend considering: OIC or Assistant OIC of xxx program or shop or department. Or xxx program lead or chief. Good on you for looking out for these kids...duty titles DO matter, even before UPT (just ask ANY late-rated dude).
  12. I dunno...my Liberty Ale (an Anchor Steam IPA) is giving it a good run...I'll let you know after I do a little more testing.
  13. What, fingers too short? Grandfather: US Army chaplain in WWII Pacific campaign.
  14. Fixed. Wait. Fucking nav...troll on troll...
  15. I dunno...the AF might've been technically correct, but may still have gotten this one wrong...be interesting to see how the AFBCMR rules after all the publicity/congressionals.
  16. Why is there a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer/pin installed while the aircraft is in flight (lower center left near canopy)? I went to UPT before the T6 was invented, but that's not normal, right?
  17. Hmmmmm...wonder what that could be?
  18. NTSB faults Gulfstream test program. Engineers predicted higher stall speeds, two previous incidents were mid-diagnosed. Crew rotated as planned during engine out takeoff certification, right into a stall without indication from stall warning system, drug a wingtip... https://m.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2012/121010ntsb-faults-gulfstream-for-g650-test-crash.html ETA: iPhone embed skilz fail.
  19. The world needs heros. Nicely done.
  20. It's just a border...we don't really care about securing borders, do we?
  21. Do not enlist. Stay in college, drink, chase skirts, graduate on time with good GPA. Apply to kc-10 reserve units, get hired, attend OTS, then UPT. Enjoy.
  22. No dog in the fight, haven't read the book, don't know the guy...but, I do know a little about publishing and marketing: it's possible SOME of the self-serving hype that "we quiet, competent professionals" dislike is not being sought by the author, but pushed/aggravated by the publisher (who wants to sell 69 million copies). Just sayin'
  23. Go directly to college.
