Because he is beholden to: CJCS, SECAF, SECDEF, Congress (HASC/SASC), the prez, and even the Constitution (shout out to PYB!). He's got to protect a dozen multi-billion dollar plans, secure the AF's capability to kick ass and take names, compete with other govt agencies for funding, and preside over numerous functions. In fact, if you think sbout it, i think you'll admit a lot of the queep is usually preceded by a memo from the CSAF: to wit: DADT training or info security CBTs or the elimination of USB drives. IIRC, all three PITAs had an intro from SECAF/CSAF. Finally, since SECDEF made class A uniforms mandatory at the puzzle palace...how long before each service chief follows suit? We've been Flying combat or combat support sorties since 1991...continuously. This, right now, is the new "normal.". I fully expect a return to blues everyday, to this opstempo being "standard". Don't you? Ok--enough rambling...going to get another single-malt and try to remember what the good old days were really like...

C'mon...the CSAF doesn't have quite the pull you think. If you think any CSAF will make your life butterflies and unicorns, you're in for a surprise. Granted he can try to reduce queep, but he's not going to reduce opstempo, cancel the RPA or move them to Tyndall, eliminate blues, increase flying hours, give us Fridays off, or eliminate PME or AADs. He may even want to do all those things, but not even the CSAF can do any of that without every other four-stars approval. Plus, those items don't even show up on his staff's radar--and don't make a CSAF's top thirty priority list. Your wing king had more power to make your life better than a CSAF does....not saying, just sayin'.

Online classes for MBA/other Masters Program

AAD=advanced academic degree (masters), BAC+=bachelors plus (indicates 15 or more credit hours towards AAD); ERAU=embry riddle aero univ, TUI=trident univ.. I knocked out a masters in a little over a year, via correspondence from aju.edu, and used my TA=tuition assistance, which paid 100% of the tuition, and I paid for books. If you can get er done now, before UPT, or get a bunch of it done now, it's not a bad idea. Do not recommend doing masters while in UPT, or in primary training for whatever aircraft you get after UPT. So, start it today, with the goal of finishing/getting real close before UPT, then taking 2+ year delay to finish while in UPT/primary, or wait until after primary. Your call. Good luck. -

You mean to tell me the air force is rewarding hard work, dedication to the systemic queepy requirements, flying excellence, and combat performance? Sarcasm off--seems like a good recipe to grow credible hard-chargers as future community leaders...

Good news and Bad News...and remember this is from some dude on a message board...but I think the info is generic enough to be accurate...others can weigh in as desired... Good news: you do NOT need a TS to be a pilot in the USAF. You DO need a Secret clearance, however, to get commissioned as an officer (and presumably to attend/graduate from UPT). Good news: you DO have a shot at getting both the S and TS Good news: the more truthful you are on your applications the better it will go for you in the long run Good news: If you're going to have something "wrong" with you on your security clearance paperwork, this is the kind of thing to have. Stuff that's BAD: Criminal record, untruthfulness Bad News: It's never a good thing to be delinquent/in default on ANY loan--"too much" unexplainable/provable financial mismanagement will result in losing your security clearance, and possibly get you separated. Typically, if you're shown to have made a series of really poor decisions in financial matters, you open yourself to clearance denial since you have a HISTORY of repeated poor financial decisions and that makes you a security risk. For example, if, in your story you can PROVE (if asked) that you made ONLY enough money to pay rent/utils and make the odd student loan payment, you're probably OK. But if you bought two new cars, a flat screen TV, a new stereo, and got three new cell phones a year during the same time frame, that's a different kettle of fish. See the difference? One was you're doing your best to discharge your responsibilities and got a little behind (sts). The other is you don't care about your responsibilities and can't figure out what you're supposed to be doing. Good news: Clearances take as long as they take. Normally, you start your secret paperwork before you commission...at some point in UPT (depending on anticipated unit of assignment), you'll fill out TS paperwork. TIP: Save a COPY of EVERY clearance form you EVER fill out (it makes follow-on paperwork/applications SO much easier!) Expect from submission to clearance date (for S, about 6 months, for TS, about 8-10 months). Good luck.

There is no such thing as "federal money" and liberal ideas like this don't work out and aren't cheap. Cut all welfare beyond disaster relief, and taxes, let charity do the heavy lifting. Slay the Medicare dragon and watch health care costs plummet as providers compete. Halve the size and scope of the federal and state governments. Federal: national security, international treaties, immigration, environmental Issues. State and local: everything else.
