  1. Can't speak for Cleared Hot...but I didn't read anything wrong with your words. Every officer's career path is unique and special...just like everyone else's. My standard advice: try to do what you want to do on each assignment: that was your motivation to get to UPT/UNT--to get to fly--and that motivation got you where you wanted to be. Look around at your former peers and at your former shop Chiefs/Flt CCs..where are they now? Are they doing what they love? Are they doing what you want to be doing? If so, follow them...if not, choose another path. I think it's great you're looking for options...but, bottom line, first figure out what you want to go do...then ask your Cc to help you get it.

  5. That's kinda my point...if 75% DPs are awarded, then 99% of the DPs get promoted, it means SRs are promoting their folks...not the board. I think it'd be better if the DP rate was more like 50%, but the SR can award them I/A/BPZ as desired.

  7. It's more like a 90% promotion opportunity. So if there are 2200 Capts IPZ, there will be about 1980 promotions for the 2500+ or so I/APZ Capts... Hopefully, they'll drop the DP rate to 50%...when its 75%, there are DPs who don't get promoted...and that sux.
  8. Assuming you can prove you've already qualified in the -38 (UPT form 8?/ AFORMS printout?), you might try arguing you're not getting a basic qual in -38, but an instructor qual, therefore the 1c note about crossflow basic qual doesn't apply, and you're back to note 1b applying.

  13. "Duty AFSC" means exactly squat after you pin on major and leave the sq/Gp level jobs...Core ID and RTDM code are much more important to be correct. Duty AFSC is tied to the position # on the UMD you happen to occupy. On staff, it's very common to not have your core ID and duty AFSC match---mainly because there aren't enough officers of the right types to fill the staffs In a below-wing-level job, however, everything should match.
  14. Emotionally fragile. Do not recommend you pursue US mil aviation until your skin is thicker. You didn't ask a simple question...you asked six difficult and complex questions no one here can answer to your satisfaction, and to which the answers will change over time. Go read a bunch more threads on the various sites, then come here and ask specific questions or for updated info. BL: getting a F-35 in 2022 means you graduated near the top of your t-38 tracked class in 2021. That means you finished high in T-6s. To get INTO training in 2020 you had to get a commission. That requires a college degree w/a high GPA and passing the physical, and the commissioning program (academy, OTS, ROTC). It's 2014 now, you're in high school. This is a LONG road. My advice (always the same): 1) grad HS w/4.0 GPA, letters in 2 sports, and volunteer work 2) go to college, do ROTC, don't be an ass, graduate w/4.0 in meteorology. 3) go active-duty, go to UPT 4) fly whatever the AF deigns you ready for until your commitment is up Now, decide if ANG/AFRES is right for you. Do not enlist hoping to get sent to OTS and UPT, or try to get picked up off the street straight to OTS/UPT. Or, ignore all that and execute your plan. We all got our wings and jets in our own way...perhaps you'll be one of the rare ones to enlist-to-officer-to-UPT? Good luck. Lock it.

  17. Wait, WHAT?!? Grand Forks AFB has 48+ ATC airmen? Grand Forks? Really? How many does a busy airport get?
  18. Just one data point: in my last unit, the three guys with the "best" records who would compete well at Hawk or Eagle command selection boards declined to compete.
  19. Possible, but very long odds, and very dependent on your record versus the group you're competing with for a DP. Probably less than 10% of a given O-6 promotion list is comprised of non-post-command rated officers. But it IS possible...I know several. It's also possible to get an IPZ DP with no command and no school in-res.
  20. 2! Too bad, though, it'll cost him an Art-15, referral OPR, redline to Capt, etc. Darn shame. No one from the Eaker, Doolittle, Yeager, Olds, or even the Welsh generations can recognize the AF we're becoming when tying one on means your career is over.
  21. That's not what happened. Re-enlistee scratched thru the phrase on his enlistment form. FSS wouldn't accept the form with the phrase scratched out, since the duly enacted law of the land says he's gotta have the phrase on the form and say it in the oath. The AF recognized the AF was in the wrong to permit deviations in the oath and fixed it with a reg change. Obeying the reg is complying with US code. Nothing unethical or immoral about that. Like it was said a couple of posts up: the beef should be with US code, not the AF. And...if the kid valued serving more than making a public political statement, he'd not have defaced his enlistment paperwork and mumbled the phrase in the ceremony "so hand me grog" or similar.
  22. Was curious about this one, so googled up the reg and the US code it references: the US code requires the "So help me God" phrase. AF was apparently wrong to permit omission of the phrase in the reg, so they released a reg change to fix that glitch. Until congress changes the US code, the oath shall contain the phrase. So if you're re-enlisting, you gotta sign and say it.
