  1. I was told by AFPC that they are in the middle of re-writing this reg. I'm sure they'll force everyone to incur 3 year ADSCs for any/all flying training in the future even if it extends beyond 10 years. It should drop in the next few months.
  2. I'm also from the area and was visiting but left early just before the storm hit. It amazes me to see the helos from rescue squadrons all over the country, I've seen videos from a rescue unit in NY pulling people from the water. I just have a question about the logistics from anyone who may know, we're these helos airlifted to a staging area close to the disaster zone or do they actually fly cross country from that far away? I would think with the flight being over CONUS that they probably just flew south. I'd also like to thank any and all who are helping. My family miraculously was spared from the floodwaters, but are surrounded by devastation. I had some friends who were almost swept away while being rescued, and they lost the house they just purchased a few months ago. Sure wish I could be there to help, but if any of you are many thanks from me, my family, and my friends in the area.
  3. I was just using the date that big blue referenced in the article for the last change. Guess I should know better than to trust anything they say.
  4. Should have been at least $350 to account for inflation since 1999 for the $650 bracket. Something above that would have been a positive indicator, but this just shows how out of touch senior management is.
  5. I probably had an appointment. I've done and drank too much since then.
  6. I had mine done at the Fort Worth FSDO. If I remember correctly, the most annoying part was filling out the IACRA form beforehand. I just showed up with my mil comp exam results, form 8 equivalency MFR, flight hour printout and it only took a few minutes.
  7. It looks like this is the solution, MPF/Finance is submitting a BAH waiver to HQ AF/A1. We'll see what happens in a few weeks.
  8. Without even looking at the reg I'd say you're correct. If you have a 10 year commitment how do they know it's your final PCS? You could switch guard or reserve units at some point. Final PCS is for separation/retirement. I've had to fight multiple times to be paid what I was entitled to, go to the first officer in the chain and don't take no for an answer.
  9. Well, if they can cut back on pro gear and spouse pro gear because of the new definitions in the JTR, then they sure as f*ck can change my BAH per the JTR. I'm sick of this bullshit and them only following the regs when it benefits big blue.
  10. Dammit, I used the wrong reference. It's Chapter 10, Part E, Section 7. Advance or Delayed dependent travel. This tells me that I can move my family there ahead of me so my kids can start school, and since I am doing training they should change my BAH to the location of my dependents. 10412 DEPENDENT TRAVEL - ADVANCE AND DELAYED A. General. When a PCS order has been issued, the member’s family may perform PCS travel at a different time than the member. 1. Example of Advance Travel. A member stationed in England receives a PCS authorization/order in July for reassignment to Norfolk with a November reporting date. The member’s family returns in August to get settled before school starts in September. 2. Example of Delayed Travel. A member stationed in Chicago receives a PCS authorization/order in January to report to Japan in April. The member’s family remains in Chicago until the school year ends in June. B. Housing Allowance Based on Dependents’ Location or Old PDS. Unless otherwise authorized/approved, a member’s housing allowance is based on the PDS. A member may be authorized a housing allowance based on the location at which the dependents maintain a permanent residence, or the old PDS, if authorized/approved through the Secretarial Process. Examples of separation situations that are routinely authorized/approved at a lower level than the Service Secretary include: 1. The member is assigned to a PDS in an area in which sufficient housing quantities do not exist; ... 7. The member is assigned to a Professional Military Education (PME) or a training course that is scheduled for a duration of one year or less.
  11. Dependents are all listed on the orders, nothing is selected in box 10 for type of tour (accompanied, unaccompanied, etc) or in box 13 about dependent travel.
  12. I went through this same process a decade ago, except I joined active duty. You are making a better choice by choosing guard/reserve. If you have your eyes checked and you have no other defect other than myopia (nearsighted), you will be fine. I haven't dug into the medical standards reg in a while, but generally if you can pass navigator standards, which used to be 20/200 uncorrected, and are correctable to 20/20 then they will give you a distant visual acuity waiver. You still have to meet depth perception and color vision standards. If you want to be a pilot, my advice is to rush units you are interested in and keep working on your ratings in the process. Enlisting is an option, but as you are aware there are timeline issues (unless you want to be an RPA pilot). I would get your PPL, then work on your instrument and visit the units you are interested in as much as you can. Good luck, and Gig 'Em.
  13. So it's time to PCS again, which means it's time to argue with finance. I went to talk to them about my BAH today and did not get the answer I was hoping for. We are PCSing from a location with terrible BAH rates to a more expensive location with much higher BAH rates. According to the JTR, Chapter 10, Part E, B. Location Rate, #5, subsection g it states that BAH can be determined by dependent location if you are doing PME or training less than 1 year in length. I am taking my family to the new duty station so the kids can start school before I begin my TDY en-route training. Finance guy insists that BAH cannot change until I show up at the new duty station and fill out my travel voucher. JTR says different, does anyone have any experience with getting this approved? We are talking like a $900 difference per month, and I'm sick of bending over and letting the AF screw me because they don't follow the JTR. Here is the excerpt from the JTR: "B. Location Rate. Ordinarily a housing allowance is paid based on the member’s PDS, or the home port for a member assigned to a ship or afloat unit. However, the Service may determine that a member’s assignment to a PDS or the circumstances of that assignment requires the dependent to reside separately. The Secretary concerned or the Secretarial Process, at Service discretion, may authorize/approve a housing allowance based on the dependent’s location or old PDS. 1-4. Blah blah blah 5. Examples of Location Rate Changes Routinely Authorized/Approved: The member is: a - f. Blah blah blah g. Assigned to a Professional Military Education (PME) or training course that is scheduled for a duration of one year or less."
  14. The stock market is a huge bubble, Obama should have never seen numbers like that with the pitiful growth we enjoyed under his leadership combined with an inept Congress. The reason for those numbers is the terrible monetary policies that were executed to keep our economy from sliding back into recession. The Fed now owns $4.5 trillion in US bonds and other securities. It's all smoke and mirrors.
  15. Please, for the love of God don't say "it's not about the money."
  16. Where the hell in TX is this? Super upscale master planned community? MUD taxes in a brand new development? Or downtown somewhere? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I definitely wasn't bottom of my class and didn't suck in the MAF either. Just got pulled into the giant manpower sinkhole that was RPAs in 2012 with terrible timing. If we had bought and fielded a light attack aircraft years ago, I'd stick around to fly that. Now I'll be long gone before that ever happens. Sorry for the epic thread derail. 18. The last round of UPT directs to RPAs are all being told they will be sent back to a manned MWS no later than beginning of FY19. That means out on the Summer 2018 VML, which is only 2.5ish years in RPAs for most. Definitely a win for those guys, the 18X pipeline is finally starting to do its job. 19. To be more specific, it teaches you how to deal with a member who may no longer want to possess their member. Or who may want to surgically add a member. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. You guys haven't reviewed the slide show? I particularly liked the scenarios discussing how to handle a member scheduled to deploy who is currently undergoing sexual reassignment therapy. Good God, why would anyone want to be a commander in this Air Force and have to deal with that shit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Transgender Awareness Training. I can't believe we are enacting policy to accommodate people with mental illness. I guess we learned nothing from Bradley/Chelsea Manning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. We need a damn C-17 unit in TX, I don't want to wind up in MS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. In the milconnect website it has the option of how many months you have assigned to dependents. You should be able to take some months back there. Best guess is it will probably take 6-9 months of eligibility to pay for your ATP. From all of the talk last year before the CTP requirement came out, it seemed the proportion of benefits taken for flight training was very high to the pay back. For comparison, my kid is using it this coming year at a second tier state school. It is paying $9k in tuition & fees, and an additional $16k for living expenses for 9 months of eligibility. 25. Make them truly part time. Give them per diem while in town when Congress is in session. They should be spending the majority of their time with constituents and less time with lobbyists in Washington. A plus is that the less time they huddle together in their DC bubble, the less time they have to pass stupid legislation that ruins our lives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
