So we have RPA operations all over the globe, why not open a few additional LREs outside of Afghanistan to keep a lid on the cesspool? We used Uzbekistan prior to 9/11, but I’m not sure how helpful the Pakis will be at this point. We just “withdrew” from Syria, yet we are targeting guys there today. There’s no reason why we can’t support the government of Afghanistan in the same way by playing whack a mole with the inevitable shitheads that will try to take over the country. It’s not a perfect solution, but lying to the American public for 20 years for no gain has to stop. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The only reg I cited was the leave reg. Both Finance and my SQ/CC had no issue with me using the 20 days. I think it’s kind of a norm like how you are given your house hunting after signing in while PCSing even if you have a place already (happened at every base I was stationed). As for the moving early, that would be on your dime completely. TMO won’t do anything without orders, and even weight tickets that pre-date your briefing won’t be paid. If there’s family close by you could move just them with bare essentials to stay with family until you can get HHGs shipped. We paid double mortgage for a month because we had to close prior to being able to move. The house sat empty for 5 weeks before we moved in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I took PTDY according to Rule 2 of the table in the leave AFI. The wording is weird because it doesn’t seem to address a member who is Palace Chasing. But if someone who is being involuntarily separated “for cause” can get PTDY, I figured I was entitled. I took some for house hunting, then added the additional to my terminal leave. You can also take up to 7 days each time you travel to interview with a guard/reserve unit. That is spelled out in the PC AFI. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Any insights into jumpseating while on Mil leave? I’m at a regional and would like to take advantage of the ability to travel home while I’m TDY for several months. My company’s contract says my family and I can still use passes, but doesn’t address jumpseating. Do I still retain CASS access while on leave? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess we’ll see on the 30th if they fixed the glitch. I think it’s about 50/50 that I’ll get another paycheck. It makes me wonder why I wasted time with finance separation briefings and paperwork if they were just going to screw it up anyways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So they accepted a boom design that didn’t work for the A-10?! I guess it’s ok, we’ll just set them up with FARPs from here on out, oh yeah and 4 leg it across the pond. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I have a feeling active duty finance took advantage of their last opportunity to screw up my pay on my way out the door. I separated last week, yet still received a full paycheck today. I was under the assumption that I would only be paid for the few days on active duty this month, and that it would take several weeks to calculate and pay out. Anyone else have this issue before? I feel like just keeping the extra $3k and making them fight me for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I remember flipping through the history book they kept at the AFE flight at Laughlin during our training there. It had all of the class patches going back decades and the meaning behind their designs. It was 1994, and the patch has “LCWF” on it. You can fill in the blanks. Too much of our history doesn’t fit with today’s PC culture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Memphis is east coast? If you’re willing to go that far, check out Downtown Aviation in Memphis. Haven’t heard much about them recently, but when I went there it was very military friendly. Not easy, but got the job done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s a shame we don’t document our history like that anymore. My last AD squadron had a bunch of old photo albums in the bar, but now we post everything to a Facebook page. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Considering how great movie making has become in recent years, I am damn excited to see that movie. Navy jokes aside, Top Gun is the movie I grew up watching every single day, and I can’t wait to see the new one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You will receive an email with tentative approval notification. The best thing you can do to expedite final approval (which will allow you to work on your DD-214 and separation orders) is to make sure your guard/res unit has your endorsed 1288 ready to go. Your ISR will have to send that to AFPC to prove you have a job lined up, then they will push the button for final approval. Also, make sure you’ve done your separation medical appointment and TAPS since those can take a while. Otherwise you can get separation orders expedited (mine took 2 days) once you have final approval and out-process in less than a week. Have a plan for moving your crap, I wound up doing a full DITY since TMO was so delayed. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

True, a wing can stall at any airspeed or attitude. I also am a public school product and just a dumb pilot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So every time you roll your Viper to 85 degrees of bank, it’s stalled? I’ve only ever been to 90 in the C-17 in the sim, we got no stall indications because we were clean and fast, just like the jet in the video. Not sure where you’re making the assumption they stalled the jet... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This aircraft is clean wing and going over 300 knots (usually 310 ground planned) entering the low level. There’s not much to compare this to Elmendorf. All I’ve heard the past year and a half is how we need to get out of the strat airlift mindset, be more tactical, full spectrum readiness, blah blah blah. When you ask guys to train to that, this is going to happen. In the ACC world we debrief safety of flight and training rule violations after every training sortie. Do we go asking for people’s wings every time they fess up to a violation? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)

Wait...they stowed away trafficked children in your POD?? Sorry, trying to lighten the mood. Looks like you guys had fun transferring all of your crap into a moving truck. Did they at least give you a discount on the rate since they didn’t uphold their end? We’re in the middle of a full PPM/DITY with 16k pounds of stuff. Not fun. In case people were wondering, UPack is a rip-off. I got a quote for 36’ of trailer space, then when I went to book it the price jumped 40%, and they said Old Dominion had to provide the trailers. The problem is, OD doesn’t provide weight tickets anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I can’t say enough about Trident Home Loans and how great it was to work with Jon and Bri (I even got a call from Marty at one point). Planning a separation with the wife and I both starting new jobs in another state, and shopping for our forever home can be quite stressful. I can say that starting with the pre-approval process, Jon and Bri made the mortgage process the easiest part of our separation/relocation. When we made a trip for house hunting, a quick phone call and we had our pre-approval letter to submit with our offer. Once we had a closing date, we got locked into a great rate. Closing was quick and painless and we just had to provide the usual documentation. We are still out of state, so they coordinated a mobile notary to complete our signing. The best part is that we wound up with more credits than expected, so we received a larger check back from closing. If you’re shopping for a mortgage, definitely check out Trident Home Loans! You can’t really compare the two situations. Back in the 1980s, Iran and Iraq were in the middle of a bloody war and Iran was targeting the ships transporting Iraqi oil. Attacks on shipping during a time of no open hostilities takes it to another level. I’m not really sure what in the hell the Iranians are thinking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
MooseAg03 replied to SUX's topic in General Discussion
Anyone have any experience doing a DITY/PPM but using the payment to book a full service move? We aren’t looking to make money, but separation orders took until just a few weeks before I start terminal and TMO is saying it may be a month before movers can pick up our stuff. Since we have a lot of crap, and heavy crap at that, the PPM estimator says we should receive $12k-$14k to do it ourselves (15,000 lbs, 1650 miles). I’d think you could find a mover for that, but I requested quotes and these guys are like leaches. My phone has been blowing up all afternoon. Mayflower? Allied? Any recommendations? I had no idea I was supposed to own one until I perused the new 2903 a few weeks ago. I’m sure it’s always said that, but it came as a surprise to me. Still don’t own one... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I called the Total Force Service Center any time it sat somewhere longer than 10 days and they would open a CMS case. My ISR freaked out a bit when I told him I had already started out-processing, then he called a contact at AFPC to try to nudge it along. There’s no reason why it should take any longer than 2 months if it isn’t even going to SAF. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
