That's some pretty crazy stuff right there. I've heard of gunshot detectors, but hearing the actual crash is nuts.

If I came home on a Friday not smelling like Jack Daniels and/or beer, my wife would probably think something was wrong. That's not to say I drink every Friday or certainly every day, but as Eagle said, it is part of your job--show some support. I say it's part of your duty. When the beer light is turned on, as far as I'm concerned, that is a direct order from the boss to drop what I'm doing and go get ripped. My only care in the world at that point is that someone got there first and already started making popcorn. contraildash, I don't want to stir up the shit, but damn...the occasional F-bomb? You guys are nucking futs!

Good topic and nice to see you back, Rainman. I rarely sign in anymore, but I had to contribute to this thread, since the topic is near and dear to my heart. CH, just know that there are those of us out there who are still motivated and will keep traditions alive and encourage new ones as required. Although I don't know how things are at my next squadron, I will engage, support, add to, and improve whatever is in place. That's what I did at my (now) former sqd from the day after I got there and the place is a lot better off for it, though it's hot and cold with the involvement since you have to pull teeth sometimes to get anybody but the diehards to hang out past 1630. Bunch of selfish, lazy, half-hearted whiskey-deltas if you ask me and that goes for both many of the Os and most of the Es (when it comes to the bar, of course). Although - when our guys were deployed, only a few people were in the squadron at any one time and that makes it tougher to plan and execute any meaningful activities. I imparted as much spin as I could on the newer guys before I left, but I have no respect for those who contribute nothing and then take whatever they want when it's convenient for them, or worse, play the idea-fairy in my bar and then vanish when it's time to take action. I've always been bugged about how fighter squadrons have no trouble getting their dudes to cough up landing fees and live and die by their traditions and bars, but our deal was tepid and uninspiring (despite the fact that we had an awesome facility). It comes down to culture, leadership, motivation, and kicking anyone who deviates in the nuts. Unfortunately, when you're one of the few trying to do the kicking, it becomes unworthwhile. But we had some good times back there and I never went home early just because there weren't a ton of people there. C-130 FTU is GAY-ETC at it's near-finest and had a noticeably more neutered atmosphere when I was there not very long ago for an upgrade compared to my first time through a few years ago.

Do a fund raiser with a timed bidding process to have nominees dress up in Santa and Elf costumes. It can end up being pretty funny. Oh, and booze - lots and lots of booze. Finding a place that allows BYOB and provides bar tending can be a great deal.

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with "Cabaret Dancing" having it's own AFSC. In fact, let's have Entertainment be its own career field and command structure. Give it its own NAF. Assign it to the AEF cycle. Bring performance art to the fight. In fact, I bet if we send them in to a new conflict even before we send in cruise missiles and SOF, we'd never go to war again. They'd teach potential enemies to sing and dance, and to laugh and love. Hence, problems solved.

That picture makes me very happy.

Yeah, if you really sit down and read their TTPs: 3-1.CGOC (UNCLASS/PULLED FROM ARSE) 4.69.3: "E-mail propogation can be limited occasionally by recipients who set auto-delete rules in Outlook. This avoidance tactic can be countered by changing the sender and/or subject line content." Tricky bastards! I concede that the initial e-mail from "Vegas" in this thread was amusing, but I disagree that she or any other CGOC president feels any sense of "well I guess I have to deal with this CGOC crap so I'll sound jaded and use sarcastic humor as a coping mechanism." They are eager beavers and VERY into their organizations. Kind of like Mormons. I think her e-mail was nothing more than light jabbing that some took too seriously, but overall and attempt to make her non-rated friends laugh and show up to the event. Hey - if the CGOC does some good for the base/community, let'em have it!
-
My thought exactly. HOSS I don't know man, sorry I doubted. See above - maybe you can lead the healing process for her. Is she hot? Actually, I can't believe no one's asked that yet.
-
Yep, I remember that. A buddy of mine in the OSS gets the CGOC e-mails and forwarded this out. A little over the top if you ask me, but hilarious and apparently the FW/CC was less than impressed when word reached him. I volunteered for a one week all-expenses-paid vacation to Langley a few months ago to go to the CGOC national convention deal at Langley. I've never been a part of anything CGOC, but I figured, hey a free week out of the squadron. While there was no shortage of attractive women (which does me no good since I'm married), it was worthwhile to learn how the shoeclerks fight, what they know, how they think, and what their level of commitment is. Other than that, I had my rolled up flight suit sleeves pointed out by another Captain (female BDU-wearing type) in the hotel lobby, attended the lamest Dining Out ever and earned a shitload of Marriot Rewards points.
-
I agree - no way she was serious. I just can't imagine even a low/no-SA shoe clerk spewing that kind of shit talk. I think it's more likely that she left her ID card in the computer when she got up to go to the can or something.

That guy embodies what is right about America. I thought he did a great job articulating his points and turning the table on liberal nut-job Carol Costello. I hope there are always folks like him around.

Whatever it takes to get the kids on board. I wonder if the ejection seat works.

Notice both O-5 offenders had the navigator stink on them. I'm sure it's coincidence, but I thought that was interesting. SHIELDS - ON

So will W crews expand and get new quals, or will it be the current gunpig crews who get these planes?
-
I hear it's kind of like Dyess - only nowhere near as awesome. Bring the pain!!

That is one sharp patch. Nice work.

My previous SQ/CC's wife told me she was the commander of the wives during an argument with her about why I asked my wife directly to organize the table decorations for the Christmas party. Mind you, this was right in front of my desk during the duty day. I patronized her in an extreme manner and told her (verbatim) "Gosh, I'm sorry I didn't realize you were a commander, too; I'll be sure to run everything up the chain to you from now on." It ended the argument and she bought it, hook line and sinker, and left with a feeling of accomplishment as my scheduling buddy and I looked at each other in disgust. She and her husband were, to understate it, QUITE unpopular. The Captain's response is measured and poignant and very well written.

Holy Hairpiece!! Check it out at 6:48 - that is sweet.

My technique is to look back at the EP every time I do something good and call it out on the interphone to make sure he's watching, and even give him that "I am dominating this checkride right now" look. In the EPE, I like to answer his questions forcefully before he's done asking them and expand on every topic. If you don't bring at least enough beer for the crew and a handle for the evaluator (coordinated prior and type/brand should either be known or learned covertly), you haven't been paying attention.
-
Wow. This thread is a good example of why I don't really feel the need to check this site much anymore. A discussion on ROE at UPT (with reg references)?? Sweet. If you are a UPT student, you are not a real human being for about a year, you have no rights, and should understand that you will be subjected to daily nut-kicking and varying levels of the standard fear, sarcasm and ridicule. You should embrace that. When an IP steps into the room to tell you to be quiet, he's not looking for a f_cking explanation about what you thought was correct. Snap to, say "Yes, sir" and then sit down and keep your yap shut. Maybe take the ops limits sheet that you should have in your pocket out and study it to keep busy. It really is that simple. Yep - it's a small picture environment, get used to it. This is NOT leadership by e-mail - just an advisory to peers about tightening the screws on wayward, soft-handed, entitlement generation p_ssies who think it's OK to blur the line a little. Not at UPT. And if you haven't gone through Air Force pilot training, you probably can't relate to the real issue. That makes me sound like a dick - I'm totally not at all, but fine - but things are this way for a reason. Always have been, and hopefully always will be.

What does your squadron use for a beer light? I'm going to build my squadron a new one (really just "one" since our "beer light" is basically an announcement in the building that the non-existent beer light is on) - got some plans in mind - but just curious what you have in your squadron bar/ops desk area.
-
So does the clock start when you enroll, or when you take your first test?

Yet another shining example of who we're fighting for. I wonder what else is important to this fine citizen? That may actually be it... Leave M2 out of this! He's probably got more sausage than he knows what to do with. I don't even know what that means.

If there is a lunch push to Hooters on a non-flying day and one of the more senior ADOs who joins us has a few beers with his lunch, then by golly, I'm drinking beer with my lunch. And in the squadron, it happens all the time "on the clock." But discretion and SA are invaluable, as always.
