Maybe we are, but these drones aren’t based in Afghanistan, aren’t coming out of Iran, and probably not out of Pakistan (but wouldn’t know). So where are we launching these drones from? If I need to fly 8 hours to stay overhead for 4-5 hours to fly 8 hours back, is it really worth my time? It seems a lot like we are back to pre-9/11 thinking where we want to close our eyes and believe that a problem half a world away can’t touch us, or that there isn’t any problem a few cruise missiles can’t fix. Not to say I wanted to ever go back there, or send my friends or my children there. I just don’t see a drone war conducted from however far away being a legitimate long term strategy to be able to keep a terrorist organization and it’s friends from reaching out and touching us. BBC reporting the Afghan Army may have been outnumbered with only ~50k troops. https:// https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-asia-58219963?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=611c21353fa7c437236b9e72%26Afghan%20army%20%27was%20much%20smaller%20than%20300%2C000%27%262021-08-17T23%3A39%3A54.438Z&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:3c34ac56-84ec-4a51-89fa-937cb92b7389&pinned_post_asset_id=611c21353fa7c437236b9e72&pinned_post_type=share Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don’t think there is any thought of retaking anything. Sad as it is, we need the Taliban to keep the airport, whether it is Kabul or Bagram, secure as the last plane leaves. So far from what I’ve read they haven’t attacked us at the airport which makes sense because they don’t want us to come back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Bobs thought the Afghans were going to defend our retreat. A task it appears they were not very interested in (can’t blame them when we broadcast that they were just fighting to lose, in 3 months or less). That would have allowed us to continue to slowly draw down to where only 1-2 plane loads of people would need to be flown out before Kabul falls (~87 days from now by best estimates) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m sure if we ask the Taliban nicely they will be more than happy to allow us to continue to embarrass ourselves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Where in the 75 Million do we draw the line on who is ignorant, and who is not? 40/35? 70/5? 65/10? just curious... I’d also like to see the same analysis done on the “more educated” Liberal voters. There are ignorant people on both sides of the aisle (reference any of the numerous man on the street quizzes). The Republican Party needs to figure it out though, because the numbers no matter what coalition they come up with: Trump/NeverTrump/Moderate etc might still not be enough to win a national election unless there is a severe decline in voter participation and 2020 was an anomaly. I know my commute is too long if I have to remember to pee before Ieave the house. Also, 90 mins each way is 15 hours a week = 60 hours a month/2.5 days a month = 30 days a year in the car driving to/from work! Obviously not counting days of leave/holidays/tdy/deployment, but you get my point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

People don’t like AFSOC’s self-proclaimed premier CONUS installation????? It always drove me nuts when people at the regularly scheduled ‘fix the AF CGO forum’ complained about assignments of three years being too short. It was always people from real horrible locations like Hickam, or name your base in FL, Etc. I wanted nothing more than for them to eat their words and spend 5 years at Cannon. Cop(s) deserved to be investigated, and based upon ALL the facts (which none of us are privy to), arrested and charged or not arrested/charged. That’s how justice works. There are multiple sides to every story, and right now all we have are partial video accounts. I’d certainly be interested in seeing all the body camera footage if it is ever released. The unfortunate reality in today’s America is that any high profile cases will be tried in the media courtroom long before the accused ever sees his/her day in actual court. The rules don’t apply and you are not innocent until proven guilty. Not saying the cop was in the right, just saying I’d prefer our justice system (though not perfect) over mob justice. It was merely commentary on all the people complaining about the size of their tax refunds when what really matters is what your net tax rate [(12 months witholding minus refund)/gross income] is year over year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So we won’t get that 3% back when we file our taxes next april? Sounds like we are getting ripped off! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Air Force to begin testing enlisted pilots
HAWDINGL replied to SPAWNmaster's topic in General Discussion
Growing up we had a family friend who flew P-38’s in WW2. He said the requirement when he signed up was 2 yrs of college to become a pilot. I understand at one point they also had enlisted “flight officer” pilots. I’m guessing requirements shifted as the needs increased. Why not try dropping the requirement to two years of college to get a commission before doing away with the requirement all together. Other than money, and the few who really want to lead the paperwork war,... why would anyone want to become an officer? It’s my understanding that O’s who are pilots in the Army get stuck as paper pushers, while the WO’s are the combat leaders in the plane/helo. I think we have a few people on this forum that could speak to the validity/invalidity of that. At the end of the day, this is just another way for the Air Force to fix the problem by not addressing the real problem. -

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
HAWDINGL replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
100% tracking until the last one... Wasn't Social Security supposed to be the "Social Insurance" plan? Instead it turned into a piggy bank and a government run retirement plan (Ponzi scheme) As Reagan said... "The more the plans fail, the more the planners plan." Everything else was very sound advice. I've noticed the SNCO's push the TSP on our younger airmen now. However, when I ask them what they invested it in they have no idea. I think un-allocated funds go into the G-fund until you tell them where to go... one step at a time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 1,190 replies

Almost 20% of the AD guys from T-1s are getting the MQ-9. (Assuming the last few drop reports here have been accurate). For those of you dreamers reading this post... Choose wisely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nope, but I would have it framed and hung in the bar for posterity's sake... Lest we make the same mistakes twice.

Oh wait, I thought these guys just told me for the last 7 years that preventing sexual assault was everyone's responsibility...I guess we are all off the hook now?

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
HAWDINGL replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
I was getting the feeling that someone higher was going to "lean forward" on this one and we're going to lose a lot more than the 1900 fy14 total active force reduction the math was indicating. The longer they drag this out, the more times they are going to have to review each person's file= more wasted time (not that big blue really cares about that). A reduction of 1900 this year leaves an extra 3100 to spread out over the next 4 years ( figuring a 5k per year average reduction). The 14 odd programs also makes me think they plan on front end loading this in the first few years, then fixing what they've screwed up in the last few. But what do I know? I just work here.
