Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
ComingLeft replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Porkchop, that is a feature. Congrats, you just voted in A1's retention survey. We are probably not that smart, but the big data tools exist for such metrics. Edited for auto correct -

Sad that no one trusts the Air Force to do what is right for its people. There are many reasons for this, and it shows how broken we are as a force. My two cents find a program that excites you. Stanford offers engineering degrees online, and some school, too lazy to search, out there offers a Masters in outdoor recreation. If you are really excited, start. The emotion will carry you through any of the previously mentioned horror stories. If you still feel tepid, this is your back up and casually search for others. I wish I had enough faith in the system to say don't do it, but also do you want to take courses as a Major doing some form of AWC while taking kids to soccer practice. Warning Kool-aid ahead I am nearly done my MBA from a brick and mortar school. It was hard work, and the best i could find without school visits, hard to plan when you are in AMC. Honestly, it has made me a better officer because of the breadth of my education. Plus when I went to SOS, the Air Force thought several topics were important enough to spend multiple lectures on; those topics I typically had semester long course about, e.g. organizational psychology. Clarification: no SOS does not make you a good leader Bottom line. Do what you love, and strive be a better person each day. Only you can answer that question everything else is advice. I remember hearing the joke in 2008 that the KC46 would replace the KC-10, and the 135s would refuel the 10 to the boneyard. A few corrupt people in the acquisitions process are still screwing over the force. I just hope we replace both airframes before we lose confidence in their safety. It appears though "vertical cuts" are the Air Force's sequestration gambit. It is sound enough to be dangerous; we lose the cost, people, and capability all at once. Can't do more with less when the jets are in the boneyard. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

If it is your own hole that is now okay. Your cock and balls just cannot be pointed toward anyone else's... hole. You will have to change it when the first female PJ or CRO is trained Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

I asked the JAG about this when I was applying. Their answer is to get approval for additional employment. Typically there are no issues unless you go work for a contractor. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

You are out of your element. Both those aircraft will still be around when everyone posting here is eligible for retirement. Mass is still taught as a principle of war, right? KC-10 will be sacrificed for the KC-46. B1 for the next-generation bomber. F-16 will have the longest life in the fighter world. Unfortunately, the F-15E will just be retired, no trade except maybe for our pensions. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Talk is cheap. You can say only so many times, "We are working on it." Small steps that are in his power demonstrate clearly he is listening. It also begs for more time and patience on the big issues that require coordination. No one thinks the AF can be fixed over night, but string enough guys like Welsh together and the next decade could be sweet. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
ComingLeft replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
Bendy, People showed their cards. If we assume economic rationality in aggregate, someone who will not leave for money will arguably stay for nothing. Who you really want to offer a bonus to are denied VSP pilots. Delaying the ACP for two years strings the retained pilots along for the "next year" promise. Look at what happened delaying it a few months. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App! -
Question on the newish SOS In-Correspondence
ComingLeft replied to Spaceballs's topic in General Discussion
Yes. It is free to re-enroll if it gets turned back on. There is no record of how many tries you took. Without action you become that guy. SOS by correspondence and AADs are like women wearing makeup. As soon as one person does it, everyone has to to "look pretty." -
Would you give up a good paying civilian job to go AD?
ComingLeft replied to Slick's topic in General Discussion
I looked into leaving active duty for the guard and a non-flying civilian job before VSP/PC got screwed up. Unfortunately, guard and a non-flying are not compatible if you live more than two hours from your guard base. PERIOD. Guard sounds great at 1 weekend a month two weeks a year. That should be palatable for most employers and families at 38 days a year; however, KC-135 units require 100+ days a year to meet all your currencies. Other air frames require even more days. A guard F-16 pilot left his unit to go fly KC-135s because the F-16 requirements were incompatible with his nice paying $100K+ ATCC job. Some of these guard days you are flying, others in the simulator, and some are just ground training or worse computer based training. Flying can become a burden or dangerous if you try to fit it into your work schedule. A local sortie takes is minimum of 8 hours between prep, brief, flying, and debrief. Most are 12 hours. Not something to do after working 8-4. I knew in this situation I would be serving two masters and "Guard Weekend" would turn into a dirty word around the house but YMMV. Asking around, I found out that most people in guard flying squadrons that make a non-flying civilian job compatible live close and are self-employed, work for a defense contractor, or are willing to take a pay cut for QoL. BTW during commissioning and pilot training you will be on active duty ONLY for two years. Can you support your family on $45,000 for those two years? EDIT: Grammar -

Received this email from AFPC today: Thank you all for participating in the most comprehensive climate survey to date. We had record high participation and will use this information to better serve the force. Aim high! Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App! April Fool's -
Look at the people in the picture. Which of these hypothetical leaders will receive candid feedback or be given the benefit of the doubt when a policy misses its mark. Leader-subordinate relations are powerful. We new that after the World Wars in which a soldier's relationship with their First Sergeant was the best predictor of survival. FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
ComingLeft replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
There never was a RIF matrix. Please continue with your CBTs. These delays have been so convenient for the AF. I am now past S1 for my PCS. I already delayed my Spring move for VSP processing time. Current leadership was cool and I was still sratted on my OPR. Highlighted myself for my next base though. I should actually thank A1. If they change the accounting date, I am in the envious situation of being the new guy in the squad right before a RIF. Luck and timing. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App! -
Love it. Was skeptical if the coding would be worth the time input. I apologize for doubting. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

Dependent Recertification - Who's got the back-story?
ComingLeft replied to Dupe's topic in General Discussion
How does a marriage certificate or birth certificate prove your dependents live with you? I think my parents still have a copy of my birth certificate. A tax return has more relevance, but still not fool proof. Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App! -
AFI 36-2110, Attachment 25 describes the process. It is convoluted, until you recognize the attachment describes enrolling into EFMP before PCS and also getting approval to have your family travel with you. I had a similar issue, child is in EFMP and though everything was great. When the MTF enrolled us; however, the full medical need was not updated, AF2523 only. You communicate the medical needs with a DD2792. It is a 13 page form that is filled out by you, the medical doctor, and reviewed by the MTF. Make certain the DD2792 is processed and verified by the Special Needs Coordinator before you fill out the AF1466. From AFPC's perspective, your first assignment is given blinded to the Q-code. That can be denied for medical reasons. Caveat to that the military can send you unaccompanied similar to a Korea situation. If denied AFPC will take a second hack at it in coordination with the Special Needs Coordinator. If that does not work, you literally get to choose your assignment. pm sent.

Are you saying your TDY history is incorrect or the 172 days? I am an Enabler so YMMV. On the vMPF homepage, top center I have an IDT counter. Top part explains my AEF bucket (Enabler) and bottom part has three values. First value is Individual Dwell Time(IDT). Mine lists 69 days which is length of my last deployment; not a joke. Next, IDT Expiration date is listed. Mine lists 1 Sept 2013, which is 69 days from my last completed deployment. The last value is IDT Counter, which shows 180 days. This is the length of my current deployment. These numbers may change for AEF cycles. Compare your experience to the data and hopefully, something logical falls out.
-
Probably. TDY history is not updated until you return from a trip; therefore, you can have a significant jump in STRD or Short Tours completed when you return. On vMPF main page you should see your Individual Dwell Time (IDT Counter). Those #'s should show your 1:1 dwell based upon your current deployment. The 1:1 dwell is written in Deployment Availability Code (DAV) 81. If there is no indication of a deployment, get it fixed ASAP. I hope that helps. I am afraid for you and others in the position of deployment to 365/PCS to the Died (I assume). I hope the 1-yr PCS is not how we "fix the glitch."

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
ComingLeft replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Well, AF this is one way to keep your talent and ensure no one is around to retire. If VSP is denied/botched, there is not enough money in the DoD budget to keep 2004-2008 YGs. -

National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force
ComingLeft replied to Flaco's topic in General Discussion
I found it interesting that the article fails to mention Afghanistan or Shift to the Pacific. Not the point of the article, but most tag some standard paragraph at the end. Sounds like the Air Force may be serious about have a period of reshaping/rebuilding. We are war weary so I think this draw down will be similar to Vietnam versus Post Cold War. Under General Welsh the Air Force is righting itself slowly. Talk is being back up with action. The biggest issue is cutting the force correctly. If we are going to get smaller and learner, everyone who is R.O.A.D. needs to leave or be forced out. That is the idea behind TERA, but I still heard, "XX% is just too low." The Air Force is going to target less political air frames. From Congress' perspective, there is no money left to squeeze out of the KC-10. Interesting to see about the response about the MC-12. Probably, not enough money there and to young to revamp/refresh. If this is true, great. As long as no one gets killed due to proficiency, this is the best push back we can manage. We literally have to rebuild the fleet, and saying "Unable" to the Africa flare up would be just great. Maybe we can stop being the easy button for everything.
