The military is not a profit maximizing entity. It will never run like one because it's a part of the insanely bureaucratic gov't. I'm all for hiring some intelligent and successful dudes off the street but they simply won't be able to achieve anything without systematic change throughout the DoD. Until big blue realizes how powerless a Sq or even a Gp CC is, nothing will change. Although maybe bringing these dudes in and watching them spin their wheels for two years will shed light on that fact...

Useful resource, nice touch.

Duck, thanks for the insight. I'm a non-rated line officer, just under a year out on my initial ADSC. I'm applying for rated new commission gigs as the on ramp for UPT. Essentially, I'll be right back on Title 10 to go to UPT so I would think it should be an easy kill for approval of the PC app.

Question about PTDY to interview with an ANG or Reserve unit: AFI 36-3003 used to have an explicit provision for commanders to authorize up to 7 days PTDY to interview for a Guard or Reserve gig, Table 7 Rule 19. The updated AFI, dated 11 May 16, only has a note in Table 4.5, rule 7 that refers you to the Palace Chase/Front AFI 36-2905. Question is, can my commander authorize the PTDY even if I haven't submitted a PC application yet? I figured I would have to get hired by a unit before I could even worry about submitting the PC application. Any previous experience would be greatly appreciated.

Upcoming Boards
bluedevil replied to Cameltactics's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Anybody hear from the 106th? -
Bump on this one. E-Pubs still shows the form current as of 19 May 2003 but I see the 22 June 2010 in the thread. Anything more current? Thanks.

Essentially a free line of credit. That's killer. Do you have to call these dudes or jump through hoops to get the hook up?

Is the 0% APR indef or some just some intro period?
-
All I can say is Space Command. I didn't think it was possible to waste so much officer manpower. I'm sure it's a pissing match between MAJCOMS but there are units that are so officer heavy you can't take a piss without hitting one.

Guard RPA.....Any Chance of UPT?
bluedevil replied to Basspilot's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
The 174th Attack Wing, NYANG is advertising a new commission with an 11U track. Not sure if that's how it actually goes down tho. -
ptwob408 has it right. AFRC holds an unsponsored UPT board. The last board they held, slots went unfilled. Unfortunately, that's all I know. Starting running down information for AFRC's unsponsored board, which I believe they hold twice a year. Apologize for the lack of facts, all conjecture here.

Me neither man, no details yet. I'll have to give AFPC a call at some point. I'd really like to avoid coming to work everyday waiting on some notification for the next year.

Florida Institute of Technologies (FIT). Their extended studies programs are covered by TA with their wisdom warrior discount. Normally $1200 a credit hour. Pretty legit school.

Commander called and told me. Official release looks like tomorrow via PSDM at1500Z

Alternate for UPT. WTF does that mean? They haven't done that for the previous 3 AD boards. Guess we'll see.
-
Las year, my commander let me know, in person, the day before the official results dropped. I'm pretty sure that's the main reason why wings get the "unofficial" results early.

Nothing yet. Results are at the wings, they got them Friday. Official release is looking like Thursday. We should all hear tomorrow.

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
bluedevil replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Switching the subject slightly. For those of you with TSP accounts, how "actively" do you manage your allocations? Do you shift money from fund to fund? I figure when the market starts taking a shit you can reallocate to the G fund to weather the storm.- 1,190 replies

Sounds like you are familiar with Stansberry's products. I'll be honest, the whole "financial crisis" pitch is what initially got me reading their stuff. Always with skepticism though. Bear market approaching?- 1,190 replies

Investment showdown -- beyond the Roth, SDP, & TSP
bluedevil replied to Swizzle's topic in Squadron Bar
Mainly the latter, but the former sounds pretty legit. Any strategies? I didn't realize Vanguard was into Brokerage. I know Fidelity and TD Ameritrade offer a "zero" commission fee when trading their ETFs as well. I wish, I'm closer to about $10k. I think I'm leaning towards Fidelity. You guys following anybody strategy wise? I follow some of Stansberry Research's products for ideas and strategies.- 1,190 replies

Any recommendations on brokerage accounts (E* Trade, Fidelity, etc.)? I've been trading sparingly using USAA, which I know isn't the greatest. Ready to open a more legit account.- 1,190 replies

So is this an indefinite 0% APR while on AD or just an intro rate for some period? I recently got offers from Citi and Bank of America offering 0% for 21 months. Would think that's hard to beat.
-
Dan, Do you guys offer construction/lot loans? If so: Is it a stringent process that requires approved builders? What do you require for a down payment, 20-25%? Appreciate any info.

Here's some more anecdata for those of us with less than stellar PCSMs... Long story short, a retired 16 driver called a bud of his, a Brig Gen who was the former Director of Assignments at AFPC. He said to ignore all the chaff: the PCSM score speculation, PPL/No PPL, flight hours, etc. The dudes who get picked up first are the ones with the best push line on the 215. Purely anecdotal but I feel your pain as well. This is by far the most difficult/competitive avenue to UPT. Best of luck fellas.
