  1. Put me in for 500,000 Iraqi dinar.
  2. I think plenty of people on this board made that assessment long ago. Working with them was like being the puppeteer and making them think they were doing it.
  3. Always thought it was weird that the military was putting Seth Green’s In The Graveyard of Empires on reading lists. Did senior leaders ever read it themselves?

Not a spear, but just a general comment to anyone browsing in the future that an annual financial self-examination can be a helpful way to avoid losing out. There are plenty of small charges that creep, and we switched insurance agencies after a similar scenario.
  5. Seems like two things could make this easier on the public health side. 1. Actually approve a vaccine. B. Tell people that it won’t prevent you from contracting or spreading the disease, but it will reduce any severe symptoms. 3. Recognize that it won’t be eradicated, and plenty of well intentioned people just won’t get a vaccine.
  6. I like turtles!
  7. Just curious if any non-IPs have been to AIS recently. If so, please drop me a PM.
  8. Welcome to the Guard! Each local franchise will tell give you a different answer, and that will continue until the day you hang it up. For seasoning, I’ve seen everything from no days to like 8 months plus. And everyone has a different interpretation of what’s allowed (TDYs, etc.).
  9. Bode, thanks for twenty plus years of service. It means something if your people are telling you to stay in. You won’t change the Air Force but you’ll probably change a few lives, as corny as that may sound. It seems you’re trying to make a decision between long term financial security for your family and getting hired by the airlines. One option exists, the other frankly doesn’t, and won’t for a while. That recovery target has been kicked down the road repeatedly, and without CARES you’d see enormous furlough numbers. What if nobody hires for 8 years? That could easily happen. Commuting to NJ would be a challenge, but so would commuting to your airline job. You noted the PCS frequency and potential UPT base moves. Consider how much control you’d have as an airline pilot. It’s actually very little. When the furlough comes, you have basically zero say in the matter. And, you may only be trading gripes about AF management for gripes about airline management, and feeling beat down by either one. The grass is always greener. It’s definitely a good problem to have. Best of luck making your decision!
  10. Have you asked your questions over on the Bogleheads forums?
  11. Some pilot wings to keep in the house or apartment somewhere. Always good to have the goal in sight.
  12. Had a guy from New Jersey in my class who would show up like the IP was his personal trainer in the gym. He'd report in and then ask, "So what are we looking at doing today?" He didn't last long in UPT, but he's made a great career in the Air Force and it was funny to watch.
  13. Is it just me or is the whole ACSC easter egg hunt for assignments, due dates, and instructions ridiculous? It's like they let the DTS architects loose to design this dumpster fire.
  14. What is GUT time?
  15. The Dempsey interview is what got me interested. You’re right; it seems like a pretty good look into what senior leadership is thinking.
  16. Gotta ask...tarps? What’s the purpose?
  17. You’re clearly humble, so keep that up. Don’t overthink your problem. You said you were off altitude. Problems feel massive in UPT, but try not to overthink it. Small problem, small fix. I oversped the flaps once and automatically hooked. Spent the next day in the fake sim (CPT?) talking myself through touch and goes. Made myself a head case and hooked a few rides in a row. Also, take time every week to get as far away from UPT as you can and just relax, whatever that looks like for you. Run, ride, turn wrenches, whatever. Get plenty of rest every night. Despite how you probably feel, most people struggle at some point in UPT, with something. Keep your head down, your chin up, and be a good dude with a great attitude and you’ll be fine.
  18. Never been a Peloton type since we all ride. I put a smart TV on my garage wall and linked it to some cycling apps and a trainer. It’s an actual bike you can actually go ride, and the TV is good for sports, if those ever come back. We've also been using resistance bands and kettle bells.
  19. And facial hair.
  20. This used to be such a cool thread.
  21. Right now, it seems like masks are what customers want. Even if it’s smoke and mirrors, whatever. If it means they come back faster, great. Hang it up next to the tie when the door is closed.
  22. I'm guessing there are a few people on here who are members. What's your take? Is the $50/year worth it?
  23. Huggy, can you elaborate?
