1983 or so, two LtCs in the seats. Right after take off each one thought they were flying the plane. They were both trying to trim the airplane so when one let go the tabs moved. One calls runaway elevator trim, the other says I've got it too. Only took a few seconds to figure out and I had already announced that emergency trim was selected.
First and only time I had self induced runaway trim.
That's when gunship IOs, Illuminator Operators, who were A431s became loadmasters. Funny thing about that was they had actual inflight duties. Many medals were awarded to them over the years from AMs up to Silver Stars(Viet Nam).
I wonder if that FCC was on the Flight Orders.
I kicked an IF out of my sim one time for telling a student "We do it like this, but on a check ride we do it like this." I was like WTF? Then GTFO and wait for debrief. Some guys develop techniques that they think are so good it'll reverse global warming, then later realize it wasn't so great after all.
Q2s if they screw up but don't violate safety or cause mission impact. I've given two Q3s. One for safety and one that would have caused mission impact. I had to intervene both times. This was pre AFSOC when you had to sell a Q3 to the CC or DO.
