  1. By the time this pilot is flying the viper, some Q3 in T6's will matter just as much as being caught for stealing the crayons in kindergarten. Enjoy your buff.
  2. That's assuming of course, the bullets don't go through your neck or back. Also, that the ejection doesn't hurt either.
  3. You're right. There might be someone that actually tries to follow that plan. Just to be clear, there's no way to add g's to your strain.
  4. Jump on a trampoline 20 minutes a day while clenching all your muscles and holding your breath. It'll add up to 2 G's to your strain in just 6 weeks.

  6. You'll be fine. Lots of outdoor activities with good local restaurants and low crime pretty much describes that entire area. In terms of a house search, most of the really big yards are in suburban boring areas, so you might be facing a tradeoff there. Commuting is easy and the drivers are some of the most polite I've seen anywhere.

    G2g now.
  8. What were they thinking? T-1s are no place to prepare new pilots for a large airplane or the CRM that goes with it.
  9. Nope. Lots of us have business degrees. Some pilots even have art, history, or theatre degrees. GPA is more important than major in most cases. Caveat: if you want to become a test pilot, you need to have an engineering degree. And test does open other doors if that's you cup of tea.

Check page 3 of the OA-X thread. My quotes are messing up again. Thx D
  11. AF's a great springboard to life/career. That said, I don't think I'd encourage my kids to do anything requiring more than a 4-year commitment, sadly including my own job.
  12. So, an all-weather MQ-9 with a person in it. And a gun.
  13. Funny you should ask that... this hit the headlines yesterday. https://www.popsci.com/air-force-commander-dreams-stealth-tankers "The air force will begin a study this year examining what the KC-Z tanker would look like and will start seeking investment opportunities a year after the study is completed. The USAF is considering whether the new tanker should include standoff, stealth or penetrating capabilities for an anti-access area denial environment. As the F-35 moves into denied environments, a low observable tanker should follow the fighter, [USAF Gen. Carlton] Everhart says. “We’re going to need a platform that we’ve never seen before,” he says. “The blended or hybrid wing, it’s a lifting body and it has a capability of being low observable.”
  14. Well done AF. Love the heritage tie-in.
  15. So, something more like this?
  16. I'd fly that.
  17. I had an 8am Spanish class at the local community college that morning. I left class around 9. There was a TV in the hallway with a large crowd. I caught a peek of the TV with the WTC burning and asked a fellow student what was going on. He said that there was a horrible accident and a plane hit the tower. Almost on cue, the second plane hit on live TV. There was a collective gasp of realization that this was no accident. I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV and most of the next week trying to figure out some way to help. I had no rescue skills so driving to NY or DC was out of the question. When the recruiter's office reopened within the next week, I was one of the first through the door. I shipped to BMT at the end of that semester with hundreds of like-minded souls.
  18. In this case, resourcing is more than just a question of cost. That said, I think the real value will come from downtime for training and reconstitution.
  19. 2:1 combat to dwell time. Units will spend 1/3 of the year in a noncombat training status. From the cited article: "ACC is expanding the training pipeline for operators, creating a more robust force and decreasing the current operational tempo. A combat operations-to-dwell ratio of 2:1 will provide Airmen predictable schedules, improve work-life balance, enable further professional development, offer increased training opportunities, and ultimately improve readiness, according to Col. Jeffry Long, ACC's director of CPIP."
  20. Follow the sun ops is dead, so time zones don't matter one bit. Dwell was the selected COA, and honestly it makes more sense from a resourcing standpoint as something that would be actually achievable (https://www.af.mil/News/ArticleDisplay/tabid/223/Article/717598/air-force-approves-rpa-initiatives.aspx).
  21. Why on earth do they wait until War College to teach this. It should be required reading for EVERY commissioning source.
  22. That's an easy fix, just rewrite 11-202v3 [/sarcasm]
  23. Too true. Put them together in a light attack wing with MQ-9's, maybe 2-3 squadrons of each, and you've got a counterinsurgency force to be reckoned with. Especially if their tactics and training are actually complimentary.
