  1. Certainly seems to invalidate the argument that the bronze star should rank above the DWM.
  2. I had friends go crosstown on ASCP. Don't know your exact situation. Where are you in the process? Have you asked the person who helped you with your application yet? Have fun at college!
  3. With almost everybody already having some sort of masters, hiring authorities that require a real degree already review those credentials separately. This does not include positions that just 'require a master's degree'.
  4. We've devolved to classic peacetime military leadership that keeps wars and warfighters at arms length. The only real way to change it is if there was a REAL need where your very way of life is threatened, the kind of need where hero leaders emerge to guide us to victory. I know these leaders exist in our ranks, but are currently being suppressed by the peacetime bureaucratic mentality. I honestly hope we never have to truly find out who those people are, mainly because of the horrible situation that would be required to draw them out, but also in case they've been so well suppressed that they can no longer emerge victorious.
  5. I had trouble deciding between the gun thread or WTF. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9gus3cwD6k
  6. Additional technique: Autosort all e-mails with your last name in the body to a "people who care about me" box. Autosort all e-mails with your first name or callsign in to body to a "people I care about" box. Delete everything left in the inbox.
  7. Yep, cause poor people aren't smart enough to understand effective marginal tax increases.
  8. LM did a mockup last year of the F35 in TB paint. Click through the slideshow if you care.
  9. Your view of the role of government is greatly different than my view of government's role. Although your ideals are certainly noble, they're unsustainable in the long run and are economically damaging for all the reasons we've previously discussed. I don't have a problem with taxation, spending, or regulation. That's the how behind the government doing its job. The argument here is what the government's job is. My view is that the government exists as the caretakers of our national community, to perform the tasks that individuals and smaller communities/business cannot do for themselves. These tasks include protection of individual liberties and agency/opportunity, provision for trade and commerce, defense from foreign and domestic threats, legislative and judicial oversight, assistance in recovery from grave disasters (beyond the scope and capability of local communities), developing/protecting baseline standards for national resources, interfacing with foreign nations, and other necessary tasks to administer their constitutional duties. Redistribution of wealth, promoting populist agendas, and political brinkmanship are not core government duties. When politicians stretch the role of government beyond its basic purpose, unintended negative consequences always follow.
  10. Giving poor people the gift of money through redistribution of wealth does nothing to raise them above the poverty line (long term). It only does three things. 1: Temporarily assists with basic survival needs. 2: Creates a dependency on government handouts with an insatiable appetite for more. 3. Raises the poverty line through induced inflation to encompass all of the previous poor and more of the middle class. There are other negative effects, but these are the ones that directly affect those welfare is supposed to help.
  11. Air Force creates new Community Support Coordinator job at 71 bases.
  12. DHS is buying MRAPs for domestic use in serving warrants in high risk situations.
  13. Those are not the only three sources.
  14. Figured it out.
  15. This. Admittedly, I'm a news hound. I'm addicted to current events. But EVERY time I've had firsthand knowledge of the details behind a story or been knowledgeable about the subject matter, the media has screwed it up badly. Since they are always wrong in those cases, I can only imagine that they're also wrong in the things I know less about. Even when they've directly quoted somebody I know, who made the mistake to talk to them in the first place, the person's words get twisted to whatever story the media is trying to sell. I guess that system works for somebody; probably just advertisers, media moguls, and politicians.

    Gun Talk

The Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a Black Conservative group, has started a marketing campaign equating gun control to Jim Crow. Interesting stuff for those who like to ignore history.
  17. Yes. I just did what you're doing. First home was VA loan, and I'm now renting it out. Second house was also VA, but I greatly minimized closing costs by putting around 5% down. Painless to get the second mortgage.
  18. I thought drones were the only ones being requested for CAS anymore. And watch your language.

    Pics or it didn't happen.
  20. Best thing about the AF is listening to nav's talk on the intercom.
  21. We just did a second VA. The amount of the purchase was around $12K above our remaining entitlement, so we had to pay that out of pocket. Since that ended up meeting some threshold, 5% I think, the 3.3% funding fee was significantly reduced. I don't remember the details, and I don't have the paperwork with me to look it up, but it saved me a few thousand dollars in closing costs.
  22. Interesting take on all of this by Ben Shapiro.
  23. I thought these were a serious answers [sic]. Have fun at Navy OCS. Hopefully someday we'll have a cool movie to promote recruiting too. Edit: 58 users watching a topic. This is a rare and special day. Thanks Starboard!
