  1. Picked up this board, but no school. Out of curiosity, how many are going to IDE in-res each year? Anyone know the guidance right now on candidates and the chances of candidates getting picked up by their 3rd look? I know just a couple of years ago it was virtually impossible to get picked up as a candidate, but it seems to have gotten a little better recently. I'm 99% sure I'm going to punch, but am interested to see what the consensus is here for what the future of a candidate is looking like.

  3. My opinion, in my own little corner of the AF, that I've spent a decade in is that there is a lot more selfishness in the AF than altruism at all levels. I joined to serve my country and to do something that I thought I would love and had always dreamed of doing. To my surprise I have rarely heard or seen anyone talking about doing this to serve their country or that this is something we do for our families. Instead, I see and hear rampant careerism, poor morale, people throwing away their integrity to get ahead and a whole lot of back stabbing to get ahead of the next guy. I have been stabbed in the back more times than I can count and can't believe some of the b.s. I have seen be our senior leadership. Remind me again why I should keep doing this for my family? Remind me why I should deploy to "serve my country" when I am only making power point slides or fighting in a "war" that we aren't fighting to win?
  4. Are you talking about the Colonel or Major results? Major is still end of January to early February. If you are talking about Major they slid everything to the left in the doc, because they are sneaky like that. Edited for clarity.

  10. ^^^THIS^^^ Can someone please explain to me why people get selected for general as an O-3 and why this makes sense? I really don't understand. It seems like in almost every example in life you can do well but have to keep performing and trying hard or else you'll get beat out by someone else. Whereas, in the AF you get a school slot and a good staff tour afterward and you're virtually guaranteed to be a SQ/CC, but if you're not on this track you have almost zero chance of moving up.

  12. I seriously doubt there was any sort of back room deal. She just finished up as a Sq/CC and was given an F-35, which I am guessing she asked for. She is having a good career and probably was more than happy to give the interview. I think many a graduated Sq/CC would have done what she did given the opportunity regardless of gender. Where she went wrong was her comment about the jet not knowing the difference in gender. That right there is where she sh!t the bed, and that is what knocks the women down the ladder among the bros in any squadron. 99 out of 100 dudes that I know don't care if you are male or female. It's about how tactical you are and your abilities in the jet. The AF grandstanding the females like this is what causes the issues.
  13. Ridiculous. AFPC is definitely not looking to make pilot retention any better aren't they? I would recommend talking to your local JAG office to see what they think about this interpretation and your situation.

  15. That's good and all, if your CC actually is willing to do that for you. Not always the case...
  16. Heard a rumor the other day that the AF did a study and found out that they could offer a $1 million bonus and it would actually still be cheaper than if a pilot separated. I don't know if that is true, but interesting non the less. I personally don't think the political climate or the willingness of the AF is there to raise the bonus. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we are going to keep driving straight into the iceberg.

  18. So, anyone ever PCS right before your PRF accounting date? Seems like a formula to not get promoted.
