  1. I think that's where we're headed. Thanks for your input.
  2. LOL skydiving center
  3. Thanks for the responses guys. At UPT is there any leeway for emergencies (for example someone getting hurt or killed at my place) for me to spend a weekend away or something?
  4. Hi there. I own a few small businesses, one of which is growing well enough to expand to a multi-location operation (a big step for us). I'm wondering if there are any other Guardsmen/Reservists here who own their own business who have either a) balanced their service obligation with running their business or b) specifically have gone through UPT while owning their business (and possibly running from afar). The expectation that was made when I was hired into my guard unit was that I will basically need to disappear off the face of the planet for 2-3 years during UPT and we're thinking about maybe hiring a general manager to run the place while I'm gone or selling out of the business until I can come back to traditional status. I am exploring options right now but hoping to get opinions from folks who have ALREADY GONE through UPT and even better, folks who did it while owning and running their business. I have a lot of respect for the level of experience and opinions on these forums so I'm hoping to get informed responses from folks who may have gone through something like that. I don't need to be reminded that I will be 110% focused on flying during UPT or that I won't have time for anything else :).
  5. Good advice all around, thanks everyone.
  6. Hi there, I've been selected to interview with the 106th RQW. I am beyond excited and preparing as well as I can. There will be a meet and greet followed by a formal interview the next morning. I've read that it's important to report in and I was wondering if that applies to civilian candidates as well. I'm guessing not, and my recruiter never said a word about it but I was also thinking that it could show that I've done my homework and am putting in the effort to do things "right". However, I also don't want to show any disrespect or cause any confusion. Is it weird if I report in? (e.g. "Candidate Garcia reports as requested")
  7. Pretty much all of my recruiters and both testing centers told me it should be about 2 weeks so I was alarmed when it had been 5 weeks and still nothing. I got the tracking number from the testing center and worked with AFPC to track down the test...turns out it had been lost in the mail. They found it and scored within a week of that. I'd hate to think what would have happened if I had just let it alone. AFPC only scores once or twice a week. Your testing center is required to mail it within 1 duty day of testing and should send via certified/trackable post. If they are backed up it could be longer but as you know it's all bubble sheets so I wouldn't imagine it'd be that hard to catch up. I'd give it until the third week or so before sending inquiries. Also, if you've already taken the TBAS, your PCSM should update instantly when you have AFOQT scores. Good luck to you!
  8. Thank you, great advice. I spent a lot of time polishing the other pieces of my packet and the scores were the last bit I have been waiting on (I found out from AFPC that the test was lost in the mail for a while so it was taking longer than usual). Just feels good to have the packet coming together. Next step, assuming I get one, will be to focus on the interview(s). I look forward to continuing to tap the resources and advice of this great community. Thanks again.
  9. Hi all, I don't like to toot my horn...for the most part have lurked these forums doing as much searching as possible and reading old threads for guidance as I submit my packets. That said, I just got my scores back and am just feeling really pleased and excited, I'm sure you remember the feeling. Mostly this is a thread to just thank everyone for all the collective wisdom that exists here. There are a lot of smart people here who have worked hard to get similar scores to me so obviously many of us pre-selectees are in a similar boat but I'm happy to feel like I've taken one more small step towards the bigger goal of flying in service to our country. AFOQT/PCSM Scores Pilot: 98 Navigator: 90 ABM: 95 Academic Aptitude: 91 Verbal: 97 Quantitative: 70 PCSM: 62 (est: 82 pending corrected flight hours) edit to add: AFOQT was the new Form T version. I found it about the same level of difficulty as the practice tests in my study guide . I was glad to have timed myself to improve my pace...stamina played a large part in completing this mammoth 5 hr test without losing steam in the later subtests.
  10. Hi there, Curious how long it's taken folks to receive AFOQT scores. I took the new T version of the test March 27 so it's been basically 4 weeks at this point. My recruiter doesn't have any contacts to check in on this but he said he's seen it take 3 weeks in the past. On the other hand, a helpful guy from my PCSM testing center (I took the AFOQT and PCSM at separate locations) said he'd check in with folks at Randolph but has not called me back. How long did it take to get your scores? Is this unusually long? Thanks
  11. Hi there, This is my first post here but I have been lurking for a while (researching and learning as many others on the road to Air Force rated jobs have). I don't mean to be inflammatory or to cause any disrespect but I have a genuine question about the differences between being a CSO or a 1A9 (enlisted). I understand that one is an officer, rated and flying while the other is enlisted (but still flight crew). They both seem to be a mix of Flight Engineer and combat systems management roles, so what am I missing? Best regards, Andrew
