Guard unit buying AD contract during UPT
BANDIT_K replied to wikz's topic in Pilot Selection Process
I tried to do some digging to find out if this was possible as well. Everything I gathered led me to believe it's almost impossible. It all comes down to funding. Since AD foot the bill for you to go to UPT, AD gets those 10 years out of you once you are winged. In the unicorn scenario where it could happen not only would you have to rush and interview (and get hired) at a unit while simultaneously surviving UPT, that unit would have to love you enough to have some of their guard/reserve brass battle the AD brass over the funding issue previously mentioned. -
Anyone know if you can take the bonus (for your previous rated field) while in cross training into different rated field? I have heard mixed reviews and am curious if anyone has any wisdom on the matter. I've heard one argument is since your primary ADSC is still the former rating until you get new wings, you are eligible if your former career field has a bonus. On the flip side others have told me you have no shot if cross training.

Employment after active duty?
BANDIT_K replied to whiskeychevelle's topic in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA/RPV/UAS/UAV)
Not that I disagree with the overall idea by any means, but UPT (all bases are 2.5 at this point) is backed up across the board with the "normal" amount of studs. Zero chance the bases could support a huge migration of 18X folk. Not sure I would want a fast track TX course into flying either, I will gladly take flight hours and additional training. Just my 2 pennies. -
I will parrot/reinforce what the other bros have already said...if you are not already in a RPA unit then only apply to flying reserve/guard units. Sure you could argue the RPA experience will make you more competitive, but IMO that juice is not worth the squeeze. Source: dude whose road from RPA to UPT took almost 7 years.

Yep. We had to take and pass a PT test although it did not count as an official test on your record. If you passed you got to stay and play the DOSS game, if you failed you were sent home. Not sure if they still do this but we also had regular scheduled PT some days. Sidebar: One day we got to play dodgeball and it was us RPAs vs Pilots/CSO's. We had like 7+ former baseball players (some who even played in college) and we destroyed them. The civilians who led the PT program made us throw with our left hands after beating them so many times and we still won. One of my most proud/fondest AF memories still to this day.

Finally got the word…headed to Columbus w/ CSD of 22 Dec!! On a separate note if anyone is going to MFS this week let me know. Managed to commandeer a rental car for the trip.

Anyone else still waiting on any info at all for UPT? I reached out to AFPC and they had to reach out to another party that still has not gotten back to them. Last name is towards the middle of the alphabet so wondering if my stuff was lost in the ether lol. Just trying to figure out if I can actually knock out SOS before heading to training.
-
For emailing the AFPC work flow for assignment info, is it The AFPC AEF CST workflow ? Just wanna be sure before I spam the wrong org.
-
EFMP trick still showing no assignment and the mypers trick did say I had an assignment but that I need to wait for all of the info to be uploaded. So I still don't know where/when thus will prob reach out to AFPC by email since that seems to be the trick. Also did anyone else not receive email with LOA stuff from MFS. I got the info via bros on here but it seems they should auto load LOA into your DTS and that has definitely not happened even though I leave in a week. Thinking about just sending it and asking for forgiveness later lol.
-
Still no joy on the assignment doing the EFMP trick…showing I don’t have an assignment. Also did those of you going to MFS get an email with any guidance on what LOA to use in DTS? So far all I’ve been sent is the MFS forms/questionnaire/Covid protocol.

@Arkbird Lucky you! I just called to see if the same would apply to me but they told me they have made new baseline requirements for MFS in 2018 and since I attended in 2016 I have to go. The upside is this TDY potentially gets me out of switching to and flying on mids cycle. Depending on when my orders to UPT are and pending no random medical disasters at MFS...I could potentially never fly another Reaper mid shift again : )
-
That's a quick turn my friend! But heck yes.
-
I'm considering emailing the address in that link just to confirm I actually need to go since I've already done MFS. I too will post that info if/when I get a response.
-
Thanks for the gouge! I now know why I have to go back to MFS, good ole waivers. Makes since.
-
OOF! I think once we get the actual RIPs emailed we should be able to contact them and negotiate these things right? Holding out hope that's the case lol
-
B/c they will run a million tests on you on things that are mostly out of your control. An example being the eyeball scan...I saw a dude get DQ'd for RPA MFS back in 2016 literally before my eyes for some condition he had in his retina that he had no clue about. IMO there is nothing you can prepare for at MFS other than maybe practicing 3D hidden images to be better at taking the depth perception test but even that is a stretch. But assuming you have a FC1, MFS should not be anything too concerning. Now that I have a slot I simply just don't want to lose it for anything lol!
-
My CDB is showing 3 Mar for MFS. I went in 2016 for RPA after OTS, and again in 2019 to get a waiver for my FC1. That place makes me nervous so I'm gonna try and dig a little and see if there is anyway I can get out of it lol.
-
For currently rated bros w/ no med issues , current FC1, and PPL...I'm assuming we just get orders for UPT and don't have to go to IFT/MFS again right? Can't imagine big blue would want to spend any extra $ on us to do so, but just wanting to confirm.

Got the call I’ve been waiting years for last night…UPT Select. I really can’t describe how grateful I am to be typing those words! Hope everyone else gets good news soon as well. 57 Pilot/76 PCSM/PPL/1st time I’ve been able/allowed to apply/Rated MQ9 Pilot/IP

Ha! Glad I’m not the only one. This forum and the UFT portal page are getting some serious traffic.
-
If you login the portal and search “rated assignments”, there’s a UFT link on the left side of the rated assignments page. That’s where the info will be posted.

@Dart_21 Hit the nail on the head. The pilot shortage has/will never be due to the lack of willing applicants. The shortage is from experienced pilot's punching out when they get the chance. I would love it if big blue decided to grant us all these coveted pilot slots in attempts to lessen the blow of the pilot shortage, but the reality is the pipeline can only handle so many studs at one time which is why there is always a quota we compete with. Last years board was one of the toughest due to COVID slowing the pipeline and the RUMINT here seems to indicate this board won't be as tough. But my buddies currently in UPT and fresh out have told me the pipeline is still pretty backed up. Only time will tell, and hopefully that time is this week!

I’m right with you bros my Pilot AFOQT scores aren’t the strongest. Miracles exist though. Both the Red Sox and the Cubs have won a World Series and Rocky beat Ivan Drago. So here’s to a handful of those for us lol🍻
-
Well if an 0-6 LOR is the min my package never stood a chance. But it was not without trying. Hope I'm the outlier I guess lol.

Yeah It’s prob safe to say if nothing has leaked by this point on a Friday next week is looking like the week the eagle finally lands.
