Didn't find anything listed in a search on this. My neighbor has a Grendel P-30 (.22 mag) for sale. Before today I'd never heard anything about it. Essentially it's a 30 round .22 semi-auto. It seemed a little cheaply made to me with the grip & mags being plastic but it seems like it might be somewhat of a collectors piece (early-mid 90's make no longer manufactured) that might also be fun to shoot. I could probably pick it up for about $200 but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. There seems to be some going online for about $400-500 in auctions and it seems like, for the most part, previous owners have enjoyed the piece. Thought I'd see if anyone here's had the pleasure/displeasure of shooting/owning one and had any info or views/reviews to share. Thanks. Ego

I know Vegas has it's perks but Whiteman has a few as well as far as UAS's goes. No commute and probably a chance for a tighter community (sts). I can only imagine that schools are better and you still have KS City 45 mins (only about 15 mins more than McCarran in Vegas) away for a major airport. It's Ops rather than training and it's not NM. I'm not saying it's "the place to be" but a few things to consider. Ego

Had this passed to me by my father-in-law. Did a quick search to try to avoid any duplication and didn't see it. Wanted to share. Tango Mike Mike Green Beret in Vietnam who came to the aid of a surrounded and wounded team with a knife and a med kit. Shot 7 times, two grenade wounds, broken jaw, and bayonet wounds in both arms. Fought off the enemy calling in air strikes and getting a helo to take the wounded out. After that was shot down while all were on board he did the same thing until he could call in another. "...when the doctor tried to zip up the body bag he spit in the doctor's face..." An amazing story and an even more amazing soldier. Ego

Yeah, I was aware of the O-5 from the 15th but I figured it to be essentially non relevant for an O-3 Capt type which is where I assumed the question was originating from. They had asked the question at another time and while there were suitable volunteers, like everything else in Pred, it changed in a couple weeks and was no longer available. Ego

For Preds at Creech TDY's - Other than training, rare. Except some guard exchanges which are actually pretty good. Other than that you can expect to go TDY to any "great" training location for training such as LRE and possibly FTU. PME - I'm assuming you mean in residence as you can do it by correspondence (home or deployed) whenever. I know of at least one Capt that went in residence, so it's possible. MC-12, etc. - You could probably volunteer all you want. So far nothing like that has happened. This is what I've seen over the past 1.5 years. Who knows what it will look like in 2 months though or 1 week for that matter. Ego

OH MY LORD! I just saw an ad for this on T.V. I was cracking my ass up! This is so ridiculous! Chia Obama Don't forget the commercial link! This is obviously a joke, not "pc", but completely hilarious. Enjoy.

This is going to sound like Lt Obvious, and it is, but everything listed that currently is not on a Pred/Reaper would be a great asset and improvement in the CAS/COIN role. I suppose that might sound more ambiguously obvious than I intended it but I'm OPSEC-ually conservative. Hopefully it happens. It seems to me they've been talking about doing this for a while and still no new version of the A-1. If it does happen I hope to find myself in one (sts). Ego Edit: I can't spell asset.

What were you doing on September 11, 2001?

Meeting my wife. -
According to the phys guys, if you're 3% dehydrated you've lost 50% of your G tolerance. When you're thirsty you're 2% dehydrated. So stay hydrated.

So they have the AETC blessing to fly but they still all need to be checked right? We were told about 3 per day released after inspection initially until the process becomes more efficient. "The command's T-38 fleet will return to normal operations over the next several days as individual aircraft are cleared for flight." This last line seems to reiterate that the checks are still ongoing. Just wondering if you knew if that was the case.

Truly spoken words. R.I.P. Alec and Maj Funk. God be with their families.

https://www.aetc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123095857 Just learned that the SP was in my ASBC flight almost a year ago. I never thought I'd lose my first bro to training. He was a good dude and leaves behind a wife with a baby on the way. My family's prayers go out to his and the IP's. Godbless and R.I.P. -
You're right. I was thinking more in terms of make sure that you know this is what you're going to do and that it works out for you and yours before you have TMO pick up your belongings leaving you semi-homeless. I should have been more clear. We drove to Sheppard and then I flew out to Maxwell. They definitely won't buy you a ticket to Sheppard and then again to Maxwell unless your orders say otherwise.

Lead Eagle, Just call the housing people (GMH) here at Sheppard. They can fax you all the paper work that you need. My wife and I drove down here the week before I was slotted for ASBC. We even arrived a day or two before my entry date if I remember right. We stayed in a TLF for a week while they showed us some houses and got the one that was available for us ready. By the way, there's no shortage if you plan to live on base. Eventually, I had to leave for Maxwell and my wife continued to stay in TLF until the movers brought our stuff, I think a week or two weeks later. GMH isn't the quickest when it comes to getting houses ready so be flexible. This brings up two more quick points. Make sure that you have the okay from the housing folks and talk it over with your det before you have the movers pick up your stuff (which you schedule through TMO if you didn't already know) and you schedule a day for them to drop it off. Also, if you come (sts) to Sheppard before you go to ASBC just know that you're kind of doing it bass ackwards from what they expect, ie when it's time for them to issue you a plane ticket to get to Maxwell they plan on doing it from wherever you live now, not from Sheppard. If you do the "go to Sheppard route first" don't buy your own ticket. Have the travel office here at Sheppard buy it for you. A little bit of a hassle but worth it considering that the AF isn't going to reimburse you for a ticket if you buy your own. Just a craniums up, as there's no good reason for you to be $400 or so bucks out for a ticket that the AF is planning on buying. Anyway, it's doable, you just have to know that it's going to take some personal initiative and flexibility. If your det is worth anything they should at least help you help yourself. The people here at Sheppard were pretty helpful as well even though you'll have to explain yourself over and over again because you're doing something in the slightest way different. Just to caviat (sp?) my experience we attempted all of this and received a lot of help with it because my wife was 8 months pregnant. So it may have been somewhat of a special case. I imagine though that as long as you do all of the work and make it as painless for those involved as possible, they won't have any good reason to tell you no. Just be persistent. If you have any other questions you can PM me. Ego

That is outstanding. Like a SAC B-52 LSI instructor here at Sheppard always says when no other logical explanation applies, "To fool the Russians." Thanks for the laugh mother Russia.

Don't know about most guys. We just had 3 U-28 pilots from the 319th here at Sheppard and one was a F-15C guy who was Tamied and chose U-28's. So there's at least one example.

Wear contacts. Even if you for whatever reason, trial and error whatever, decide you'd rather fly with glasses you'll at least have the option. If you don't start wearing some contacts at least 6 months prior to UPT you lose the option. I've worn (wore) contacts for 2 years prior to UPT but not AF approved contacts and now I'm stuck wearing BCG's for pilot training. Not only can you not wear contacts while flying you can't wear contacts when not flying either. Great. Take it for what it's worth but, even if you end up not liking contacts in the end, by not wearing them you'll no longer have the choice. And as was said before make sure they're AF approved. As far as the AFI and the 6 month deal it is written in the SCL program. I think a doc can give you a little leeway (if they choose to) as to wether you needed to wear contacts for the 6 months immediately prior to UPT or for any 6 month period prior to UPT. The writing allows for a little interpretation in that area.

Searched and found this page so I figured I'd just piggyback it on this one. Our flight leader came back from a meeting with the news that the T-44 and helo tracks were now a possibility out of Sheppard for dudes who the Cadre feel won't do well in 38's rather than just washing out of all flying. From what I understand one guy is headed to or will be soon to the T-44 track. Edit: Just for the record I actually think this is a good deal and not some "crazy oh no!" deal as the thread name kind of implies. Just found a thread about Sheppard and added this at the end.

He hasn't taken nearly enough sh*t for that! Why didn't he show them his hot pink flight suit while he was at it? (Edit: As a matter of fact he might just be a member of the Airworlf team.) "Never talk to the media." - Rainman Check. That was sadly very gay.
