  1. Cool video. That must have been a good day. My first and only aerobatic ride was in an RV-8. I loved it. Tandom seating and that beautiful clear bubble canopy.
  2. Yeah, don't worry about the chains. If you're only here on casual just get an apartment. You definately don't want to be buying a house in that amount of time. Also if you don't want roomates don't rent a house either (IMO.) I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think that they'll have Pueblo ready for the IFS program yet.
  3. Sorry, just realized that seems kind of like having selfish motives to be in the AF. You will realize through your experience that it is more important to be an officer first and that kind of attitude will carry through whatever job you have. Just thought I'd add that. Sorry for the novel.
  4. Just to hop on the band wagon in case your still checkin this thread- Just be a normal guy. Don't be arrogant. Figure out what you want to do and get as much information as you can towards that end. Study hard and get good grades and meet the deadlines that your Cadre set for you. Your Cadre will do their best to help you if you help them by doing this. One thing I didn't do was to really look at the different jobs that will be available to you as an officer in the AF. If you want to be a pilot then of course that will consume your efforts, time, and thoughts, but you also need to realize what else is out there just in case. There's an AF pub called Edit: 36-2105 that lists all the jobs. I was suprised at just how little there was, in my opinion, job wise if you don't want to be a pilot (nav, abm, etc.) Of course everyone is different. Get as much real information as you can about these jobs from people who know and who do them but also realize what's out there because if you join up and get your pilot slot, great, but if you don't you're still going to have to put some time in so make sure it's something you would care to do. I hope what I wrote makes sense and isn't too far forward thinking. When I was in your shoes I could care less if someone told me this because all I wanted to do was get my slot and I would figure out the rest if I had to. Now I have my slot (pending a few more hoops, Brooks, etc. to jump through) but from this side I wish someone would have made me see the sense in this. Good luck in whatever you decide and keep looking ahead but also know (and this may seem contradictory) that whatever comes you'll figure it out when you need to. [ 09. 5. I'd say ask your NCO's.
  6. Flow, 1: 4 wheel drive- Having one will help, especially if it's your first time driving in the snow. They do handle better of course. And if nothing else it will give you some confidence. Just don't get over confident. And as a side note the best way to learn how to drive in the snow is to find a parking lot filled with it and purposely lose control so you know how it feels. It's not as hard as you might think to learn. If you can't find a good 4 wheel drive I would definitely lean towards the front wheel drive. 2: As far as apartments try rent.com with these zip codes. Zip's immediately around Peterson: 80914, 80916, 80925, 80910 Zip's close to Peterson: 80906 (Broadmore Area), 80903, 80907, 80909 (All three downtown) Zip's up north but still within 20 mins: 80915, 80917, 80918, 80920, 80922 It shouldn't be a problem to find an apartment in one of those with the ameneties and some kind of location that you're looking for. If you come across a specific apartment in your search PM me and I'll ask around to see if anyone's ever lived there and will get back to you. Also if you're planning on being here for three years the housing market is pretty easy to get into and start building some equity (just a side note.) Good luck. Springs is a nice area if you like Mountains and Snow. [ 25. April 2006, 12:14: Message edited by: egochecks ]
  7. Insult to injury. That's ridiculous. Delta won't "go down the..." just like United didn't. They entered Ch. 11 under the same rules as United ie. stay for as long as you like. Who knows if they'll eventually go out or not but I doubt it will be any time soon. Not to mention that would be awful for the employees...there's not alot of places to go being that they're all (pretty much) having the same issues.
  8. That's a great video. Forget digging in the gear...did you see those birds fly by? I'd be more worried about taking one of those to the prop or the face. Anyway that's pretty impressive in my book.
  9. Nice. How far off the ground do you think he was? He looked no more than 20-30 ft. Thanks for the video.
  10. If you want to do really well on your IDE (not necessary) ask for a leadership position in the first week. You may or may not get one but you'll learn how to march a flight come IDE time. But unless you know you have your stuff together don't do that cuz you might just suck and having a good IDE score might not undue the suckage. Other than that practice. Oh yeah, and do Bendy's idea but maybe with a sugar packet, or a nutrasweet packet, or a dominoe!, or no wait...I know...a matchbox car but something cool like a Nova. I'm retarded. Good luck anyway.
  11. Just take it seriously and be confident. To be a minority here, I didn't hate it. You should learn some things about yourself by being there. Be physically fit before you go but you'll do alot of PT there and you'll get your best PFT score there (typically). Know your FTM so you can know what to do and help others do it. The hardest part of it is to stay mentally motivated because there will be days when you're bored and fed up (the whole repetitive issue) and that's when you'll want to start slacking. Like everyone else is saying it's only four weeks so just commit and realize that it does affect other areas of your time in ROTC. FT is one of those things that will be important to you when you're there and if nothing else it's paying some dues so you don't feel like a poser. All in all I'm glad I did it. Why not? (NOT LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER ) My life isn't anyworse off for going through it. Good luck.
  12. Is it to laugh out loud at your computer?
  13. Yep, and ROTC Heteros too, thank God.
  14. I second that on "Once a Fighter Pilot" by Jerry Cook. A great book about an F-4 pilot. Starting from before pilot training through his whole career. Very personal and written in the form of short stories about his experiences. Also, "The Mamoth Book of Fighter Pilots" A HUGE collection of autobiographical and biographical letters and memoirs of fighter pilots from the very 1st in and before WW1 including the Red Baron and Max Immelman, Chenalult's Tigers, and british and american pilots who are the foundation of all that is today. It goes through to about the 1990's. An awesome book about the history of fighter pilots in their own words and the ones who fought beside them. [ 18.
