Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
ImNotARobot replied to Toro's topic in General Discussion
No flight pay bump yet at my Reserve base. Finance told another pilot in my unit “It could take up to a year...the pay tables from AFRC aren’t correct” Not really sure why I expect anything other than gross incompetence from support agencies. Imagine if I flew an ILS (a routine task) like a finance guy files a voucher. Sorry, the system is down. Sorry, we went to lunch. Sorry, we’re closed for training. Sorry, you didn’t sign this on the correct date. Sorry, we lost the voucher. Sorry, you need to show me in the AFI where it says I have to do my job. More time is expended creating any/every excuse NOT to do a primary job than actually performing the smallest task. It’s OK though. Because they can never be fired. -

Check your LESs Reservists. The 12-22 yr demographic is having issues. I’m still on the old flight pay for Oct, and FM is telling us “it must be a table problem from DFAS, we’ll create a ticket and have them fix it”. Glad it’s actually working for the AD guys though. At least a few get what’s owed on time. Better than none! -
Guess I need to look up DOXed. I can't keep up with millennialspeak(poundsign). Post deleted.

AFRES Cat E Promotions

I've looked into the Cat E Reservist thing myself. What I've discovered is you don't want to get twice passed over as a Cat E dude, since the sanctuary is somehow treated differently. So to answer your question directly...based on when you pinned on Maj, will you be twice passed over before 20? You'll meet your primary board the summer of your 6th FY in rank, and your "twice passed over" board the 7th FY summer. For me, that means I'll stay as a Cat A Reservist, flying planes until I'm a LtC select, then I'm going to go Cat E. IMA is also an option to get that final promotion, but for me, going to a staff to cup some GO's balls isn't in the plan. I'd rather fly, and when it's time to reduce my military commitment, I'd like to REALLY cut it. And the 35 days a year required as a Cat E in the CAP or ALO is pretty sexy. The funny part is, it has nothing to do with getting the LtC rank itself, just the security of not meeting the promotion boards before 20 yrs. The AF has shown me that LtC is simply a pay grade, and has no direct bearing on leadership ability whatsoever. I searched around for actual AFI on this, but couldn't find anything official. Any current Cat E guys, please speak up, I'm monitoring this one as well. -

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)

I...get it. The second half of an AD AF career is filled mostly with the opposite of what the Peter Pan line flyer wants. I say again, the solution to never growing up, flying the line, having the freedom to live where you want, go to an airline, NOT go to an airline, get paid, potentially even find happiness, etc lies in the ARC. The ARC certainly has its warts, but chief among its many advantages is the ability to say NO. And being a member of the ARC doesn't have to be a life sentence. Stay (in most cases) as long as you want. It can serve as a transition lily pad to stabilize the family while other big life pieces fall into place. It's tough to see the truth of the entire landscape when peering through jail bars, wrapped in an AD welfare blanket and handcuffed to a AF commitment. I know why the caged bird sings, Crag. And I'm sure glad I didn't let the AF steamroll my escape tunnel behind that Rita Hayworth poster. -

Cringe at what exactly? Getting paid more money than you can spend while having half the month at home? -

Aaah, invoking 9/11 to validate a decision to stay in the Active Duty thrash? That's a bit morose...ahem, I mean a conservative, safe view. Don't forget that more than two paths exist...the false dichotomy of a) stay on AD til 20 or 2. totally get out and never get any retirement money or Tricare is a ing lie perpetrated by the same POS commanders promoting the welfare mentality on AD. "Stay with us, and the money will keep rolling in...Boy, did you see the news? It sure looks big and scary out there. Thank God you took that 365...it will be a good career move for you. You're welcome." Join the ARC. Keep getting paid. Stay current. Choose where you live. Build your apps. Get hired at a major. Smile excessively while reading internet chat boards. -
The other phenomenon I've observed are passed-over guys being used as 179/365 cannon fodder precisely because they can never achieve bright/shiny status. Sad as hell when that soul was sold to any permutation of the multi-year bonus. No other reason to stay at a company that has effectively gotten slave labor on the cheap with passed-over guys 'filling every undesirable hole' if you will. <screaming GO TO THE AIRLINES! whiles typing>

Air Force Requests 4K More Airmen, 46 F-35s, No Bonus Changes - Military.com https://apple.news/AJeUhSGVVT82uTcYESpGrVA No bonus changes...why would I expect anything different. With every passing action, AF leadership shows me EXACTLY how it continues to value pilots. And so do the airlines. -
I realize that Guard units may have a different answer to this question, but for the AFRC units out there: How many/what percentage of the LtCs are in your unit were promoted PV? Thanks.

IRR opportunities....points

IRR opportunities....points
ImNotARobot replied to Junglejett's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
So...do I understand that one can retire out of IRR? So if I go IRR with 6 years remaining to 20, how do I figure the various programs that exist for points in that scenario? I understand that there are DL PME schools, etc, but I have no idea how to find what could work...meaning, do I qualify for enough of these schools to string together 6 good years. I see the IMA info above, and that's appreciated. Anyone who was deciding between IRR & IMA positions and would be willing to talk about their thought process would be VERY helpful. I've read as much as I can using the search function. The Air Force has finally found a way to burn my tolerance candle out, stomp on it, and take a steaming shit on top of it. I've gotta give the AF credit for consistency...the admin and/or war machine again demonstrated my value to the company: a simple number on a spreadsheet to feed the beast. No more, no less. The years I spent fooling myself it was something else are over. -
Another item that greatly helps me write an letter of rec for someone is a current resume. Agree with everything above about writing a first draft too...but include a current resume (the exact one you have on file for the job you want!), and maybe the author of the rec letter can glean some additional info about what your greatest hits/accomplishments. If the guy is taking the time to write the letter, he wants it to be the best product possible. Give him the tools to make this happen.

Keep up the good work bro. Unless I'm mixed up, I saw you speak at a Laughlin UPT graduation where my unit had a couple Lts graduating last year. You're uniquely qualified to help our various causes from your pulpit. Don't let these bastards keep promoting each other...it's a cancer that's eating our organization from the inside out. https://www.airforcetimes.com/articles/mileygate-commander-promotion-letter I was stationed with/flew with/went to college with one of these guys that got wrongly burned in this fiasco. He's a great dude, and is still dealing with the after effects while Hastings is jockeying for his own promotion. I realize many things are probably out of your control, even at your level. Keep on keeping on my friend.

Nope, I guess you've got this all wrapped up. Project that confidence and they'll have to take you!

I just went through this as a TR. Local mortgage company needed a letter called "Unconditional Employment Verification" where I created an MFR on letterhead from scratch that stated "This letter is meant to provide employment verification and history for ###. He has served as part of unit XX since XX as a XX instructor pilot. His average gross monthly income is $X000 as a TR. He is a member in good standing in our unit." I had the DO sign it, and sent that along with 1 month of LESs to the bank. I considered doing the math for an entire year of pay, but providing those LESs would be a bit crazy. In any case, the bank liked the MFR with the LESs. Good luck dude... I hated having to explain repeatedly that it's not really a part-time job.

You get paid for your technician weekly hours and holidays as you would normally - whatever your normal work schedule is. You're title 10 for points only, no pay during the week. Then, on holidays and weekends you get paid normal military and orders. So, if your tech normal week is 4x10s, you get that civilian pay plus 3 days of military pay. You also get TriCare the whole time. You can only do that for 44-days in a CY, but that's at the rate of 8-hour work days so you have to "prorate" for 4x10s. It it can be a good deal if you work it right. You can still double dip like normal too. Its a paperwork nightmare as your coming on and off (pay and non pay orders) a lot. Thanks dude! (Or dudette)
