Make sure you check to see if you're allowed to bring boats from other states wherever you go. Sometimes places have laws against this as to not cross contaminate invasive species or something. And try to figure out a storage location.

My local Class D was like this for most of the covid times during 2020. It was weird turning the lights on myself and making pattern calls there, but it was pretty cool. They're pretty much back to normal ops now though as far as the tower goes.
-
Ahh gotcha. I had never heard of having to retorque on head studs. Aluminum heads? I had steel (class rule) so maybe that makes a difference. After break in makes sense to me though. Nothing like firing up a new engine for that initial break in. New to me! I had some aftermarket stuff too, but I dont remember them requiring any re-torquing. But they also didn't have a dedicated stud kit. I wonder if that's just a stud kit thing in general?

Agreed, but people want fuel economy, and naturally aspirated and electronically controlled shifting are how we get there. That and it's just easier to adjust how a car runs throughout the year, i.e. in the cold months or something similar. There just isn't a demand for manual cars anymore, so it doesn't make sense from a manufacturing standpoint. They used to be cheaper to make, but with lower demand, it's simply more expensive to tool up a line for such a low volume. But that's why we build cars! It's not dirt cheap, but building a SBC can be incredibly economical (relatively). Sure you could dump a lot of money into a SBC, but if you want something that sounds aggressive and puts out decent power, it's not all that expensive really. For a fun sunday driver, anything north of 400HP is overkill honestly. Not that I wouldn't want more HP myself haha.
-
Not that it would have solved the problem, or maybe it would have, but just for added coolness since you're not putting out wicked high HP (still a good amount though), there are some fairly economical head stud kits out there. I found one that was significantly cheaper than an ARP head stud kit, and was very impressed with the quality of it.

Slowly, but she'll buff.

I've also heard that if you already had covid, the first shot is usually the hard hitter, and for those who didn't have covid, the second shot is the hard hitter. But I'm only an engineer so I dont really know.
-
Pretty much my experience with it. Arm soreness kicked in a few hours later, next day had the chills and body aches. Subsided 90% by the next day. Second shot pretty much the same thing. Body aches were a little more present the second day after, and my fever broke hard at night. Woke up drenched in sweat twice. But not bad overall. Mild inconvenience at best.

I mean, I wouldn't necessarily expect it to surpass the handling and interior of a BMW, since they're typically excellent on both of those fronts.

Guard/Reserve timeline to UPT

I was in student flight (still am? They're dissolving ours I think) but the pilot hires just sign in at student flight for roll call then dip out to the squadron instead of staying there all day. -

Pretty much nothing. Get to know everyone in the squadron, sit in on any briefs/meetings I can. Get some stuff out of the way like computer access, getting uniforms and flight suits ordered. But otherwise typically just about nothing. -
Sounds like you think this individual doesn't fit the part on that last bit? Being the local probably does give a leg up getting the interview, but as you said, should be a level playing field once you get to the interview. I interviewed multiple times at the unit I ended up getting hired at, and plenty of local dudes got passed up each interview. Maybe that guy has been interviewing for the past few years and they finally gave him a shot. I'd refrain from making assumptions when you're on the interviewee side of the table. Just my $0.02.

I also wouldn't hold off shuttling off apps if MEPS is the only thing you dont have done. It's not a requirement on most of the applications I've seen or done. But I haven't applied anywhere in 2 years.....so what do I know. MEPS will help them know you dont have any issues, but if you have everything else, get those bad boys flying and use all the time you can.
-
Or they went with the local kid because he interviewed better. There may be some bias towards the local guy, but it comes down to how the unit likes you on that interview weekend. Yeah it sucks, but them's the breaks sometimes. I was passed over for local guys a few time, but then got it after sticking with it.

The article from the original testing of that deicing picture states that it is just boiling water sprayed at a high pressure. So, I'd say no deice fluid to answer your question. They aren't trying to make these things fly, just free up to operate normally. Where they get the heat is irrelevant to the picture/point of it. The picture was used incorrectly to try and make it seem as if windmills cannot operate in icy conditions. When they indeed can and do quite regularly.

Like Fox said, they'll give you the slot, but its basically pending an approved FC1. Don't get one approved, lose the slot. That's why they ask if you want short-fall dates, so you can take someone's spot when that happens.
-
Ha. No. I dont have anything. My selection package is up at NGB. Should be approved by now, but havent gotten that fancy letter from them. NGB and the reserves probably do things different I'd imagine. Your package gets approved by NGB, you'll get a letter stating so, then you get to wait some more for OTS dates. You basically get put in the queue to receive them once your package is approved. Typically guard guys dont get UPT dates until part way through OTS.
-
Double check your info. I've had a recruiter tell me something cant be submitted without an approved FC1 and they were wrong, and it cost me a lot of time.

Ask you're recruiter to get the officer selection package going as soon as you can lol. See about about not needing the FC1 done yet. Hopefully it'll get you some OTS days faster. Congrats! -

You're recruiter is typically the go to for this, but you can check with pilots in your squadron to see if they know anyone who can get answers. The AF is small enough that someone usually knows someone. -

Nope, I only know (and barely) the mystic ways of the guard. Sorry! -
Weird how different everyone does it. My guard base had a "open-season" day for the vaccine on sunday of last UTA. By appointment only on Saturday and Sunday you could just stroll up and get it if you wanted to.

United 777-200 Engine Failure and Dropping Parts All Over Colorado

We know that, but public perception is that the issue is with a Boeing jet. And coupled with the 737 MAX issues, it's the last thing Boeing needs right now.
