USERRA Protections
Bobsan replied to mightymighty's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Are airline nonrev flight benefits and CASS status protected under USERRA, or do airlines who keep your flight benefits active during military leave choose to do so to be nice? -
Not in the manner you describe. Do your research on the MC-12 and the specialized Herk units out there (HC, EC, WC). Your easiest option is to get on with a C-130H Reserve or Guard unit, in which case being a nav entails doing pretty much nothing for officer pay.

The stirrer tends to create two big heaps of jalapeños at the ends, so best to leave it off. However, in most machines there's a slight tilt in the cooker so there's more oil on the one side. Pro tip to run the stirrer for 180º rotation every 69 seconds to swap the uphill and downhill peños, and then spread evenly to break the mounds.

Negative GR: The results suggested that immunity from getting the virus and still being unvaccinated is a lot better than never having been infected and getting two pfizer shots. If your first exposure to virus immunity was 6-9 months ago (real virus or vaccine), you're 13x more likely to get infected by the Delta variant if you had the two shots and never had the virus. And more likely to develop covid in that group. If you had the virus any time in the past 16-19 months and you're unvaccinated, your immunity is not as strong anymore but you'd still be 6x less likely to get infected again and 7x less likely to develop covid than if you had the two shots (in the past 6-9 months) and never had the virus. And less likely to be hospitalized. And without statistical significance, they think that having had the virus followed by a single shot gives slightly better immunity than the natural one from prior infection. Again, much better than never having been infected and getting the two shots. No data on third shot immunity yet. So, for those who had the virus and didn't get the vaccine, you might be in a great position right now. Biologically speaking, at least...

Here's a new research paper with data fresh out of Tel Aviv, it's a massive study comparing natural to vaccine-induced immunity: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.24.21262415v1.full.pdf

For a split second I naively hoped it was something about a fighter drag or maybe the new name of the KC-46

A friend woke up in the AM with bad tooth pain today at an AD base where the base clinic (including dental) is closed today so they can be extremism-trained. The Tricare "nurse advice line" suggested going to an ER since dental work isn't covered unless referred to by a mil dentist. I wonder if that's true. It's probably a root canal situation. Can you show up to any dentist and be covered?

Don't let the USAFA boys band see this

I ended up buying it, flew it home from Iowa the other week. Insurance $980/year, hangar $230/month, and however much MX ends up costing. Far from the best performer on the airfield but still faster than a J3 Cub, had to keep flaps down for this one to keep up with me.

I would but flying clubs/schools in my state and nearby are closed. Road trip and hotel/bnb across the country to FL schools offering block time building rental is the option I'm weighing against.

Here's a S. Korean surgical and cotton (not N95) mask effectiveness study to add some fuel to the fire. https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2764367/effectiveness-surgical-cotton-masks-blocking-sars-cov-2-controlled-comparison According to this, coughing with a surgical or cotton mask on when you got the 'rona is like farting with a flight suit on when you had a greasy chimichanga.

no more than 1 passenger 69% of the time. I was initially thinking 4-seater to be able to easily fly for things like Pilots'n'Paws and PALS. But my primary mission is getting any sort of flying time ASAP. I've been reading about RVs and and looking at listings for sale. But even a Cub/Champ or C150/PA-28-140 would do for now. I haven't flown in 8 months since UPT graduation, currently in a penalty holding pattern with the Guard Bureau waiting for Herk school dates (long story). With the GA market expected to go down, I may end up buying high now anyway just to get hours and accept the loss in value.

I've been looking at Bonanzas, Mooneys, and the like. I've done many XC trips in a rented Bonanza and loved flying it. I'm still very early on in my research on what airframes are pitfalls/nonstarters and how to tell market value for certified a/c. Something like this looks awesome but I have no idea if it's worth 60k and how it would hold up value: https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/122535405/1959-beechcraft-k35-bonanza Everything about RVs from what I've read is appealing to me but I wonder if you need a buddy mechanic that's good with them. Dream is to build one eventually but won't have the time in the foreseeable future. Market fall or not, sounds like better to wait till after the summer to buy.

How much do people think the GA aircraft prices and cost of maintenance will drop as a result of the projected recession? I'm thinking of buying something soon to get more hours as my flying club is closed. Or make some more friends who own and wouldn't mind adding me to the insurance. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2020/march/30/aircraft-market-reacts-to-the-coronavirus

Archive.org is making all of its books available without a waitlist right now, they have a shitload of aviation and mil history titles. Ex: Forever Flying by Bob Hoover https://archive.org/details/foreverflying00rabo You can "borrow" and then download to read in Adobe Digital Editions app

So what kind of prenup should pilots get before marrying someone? Would your wife be legally required to know about or have access to all or any of your assets?

340 FTG (UPT Reserve IP)
Bobsan replied to Cap-10's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Are any of the T-6 IP squadrons undermanned? -
Anyone done or heard of an unsponsored reservist doing a VLPAD tour straight out of UPT? Or for a Guard guy not completing fighter pipeline or whose unit went to RPAs? If so, how would assignments work to an initial airframe?
