  1. we have been issued Massif outer jackets for cold weather and combat shirts for hot weather that are pretty legit. They make good stuff overall, but these are pretty cool

Most of the IP's at Fort Rucker who were used to the upper arm pencil pockets, went out into town and has one of the uniform tailor shops make them a pencil pouch that would Velcro to the top of the pouch, and have soft side Velcro so that patches could still be adhered. To gain access to the pocket itself since the flap was covered up, they just used the side zipper. That was one work around to the lack of pencil holders in the shoulder pocket.
  3. Can you explain the "forms out of date" part for me? I just submitted mine but my signatures were a few months old because of how long it took for other paperwork to get hashed out.
  4. For all of the reasons stated so far. Basically it comes down to...sure they make sense from a SERE perspective, and its nice to be able to wear combat shirts when it' super hot, but as others have said, the designs are pretty shitty, material is shitty, sizes are shitty, and most of all it takes away the sense of pride of being a pilot. Pilots now fall in line with the rest of the Army and are therefor treated like the rest of the Army. When they first switched over, units used to be able to wear "unit" patches over their name tapes, but now that has been taken away. There are a couple brigade commanders out there that have written memos allowing their flying community to wear them to give their units a sense of pride and morale back, but as morale has been continuously stripped away from the flying community from the big green weenie. Taking away their flight suits was just more salt on the wound. As petty as that sounds.

  6. nah, I'm just looking to see if that "loop-hole" would work for you. I would first try and speak with another recruiter. I am not as familiar with the AD to AD transfer stuff, but I can help with the Guard side. I am in a similar situation, but Guard to Guard, and 4 years left on my ADSO. I have been approved by my state to transfer, I am just waiting for the paperwork to clear NGB at this time. I was at rucker from March 2015 - October 2016, we may have crossed paths at some point
  7. Are you warrant or a hard bar. There is a DoDi that basically says, if you are going to commission as an officer it pretty much trumps any ADSO you have (pending you don't owe time from taking money for school...that gets a bit more hairy). I would have to read it again to see what it says about WO going to O grade, since it was in the context of enlisted moves, but it may be an option to research. Break break: when were you at rucker?   9. agreed There is no respect anymore. Maybe it is more than just "the times," but also with how much faster information travels that this occurs as well. There seems to be a lack of restraint and consideration before blasting something all over the internet.

  12. I got hired at the best place for my family and I. I'll keep the squadron specifics quiet for now and I wouldn't want to paint a "this squadron gives waiver's" target on them. I did not rush them because I knew they were willing to give waivers or had the dream airframe that everyone wants. I actually knew nothing about them except the basics one could google so I started making cold calls to them. Because of my family situation (my wife is an EFMP with medical issues), they were in the ideal location for us because they were around our extended family. This would allow my family to be supported while I was away for training/deployments in the future. I also couldn't have asked for a better group of flyers to hang out with the rest of my career. They are all great people and look forward to flying with them soon.
  13. He was flying heavys I remember that much, but hey...he's living the dream. I got hired with the expectation of needing an age waiver, so the possibilities are out there man. I am still waiting/completing transfer paperwork, so my waiver has not been submitted yet, however I am expecting everything to go smoothly...just not swiftly... Spend some time reading deep into these forums and abusing the shit out of the search feature like I did. make connections and start conversations and you will learn a lot. I whole heartedly believe that my success of getting hired (after 4 interviews) was a result of a lot of research on here, investing money into bogidope services, and spending a lot of personal time and money visiting squadrons around the country. Keep your head low, be honest, be humble, be the best you, and you will find the right unit.
  14. they probably got hired and are in the middle of some intense training ;) Are you needing an age waiver? Iv seen some talk on these forums and also spoke with a pilot who went to UPT at 37. If you need a waiver, keep chugging man.

  16. Scores look good man. Like the others have said, get apps out there today. I believe MS is hiring for C-17 slots right now. If you haven't already used BogiDope, I suggest you check it out. It's a great resource and helped me out a ton in the hiring process. Their interview prep service was well worth the money. Good luck man.

  19. Gotcha, i bet there is a way around your ADSO if you had a gig already lined up with the guard/reserves and could show how it was better for you, career, and family

  23. Keep at it man. Start applying now and make sure you check out Bogidope.com. It is a great resource for finding units. Make a ton of cold calls even squadrons are not currently hiring. I got two interviews with squadrons that did not advertise their hiring boards. I was making cold calls at the right time and was able to get applications in just in time and got interviews with both. If they advertise as "no age waivers etc." apply anyways and make them tell you no. Plan on visiting the squadrons you want to be in and even make multiple visits if you can afford it.
