  1. Ahh didn't know WI was slotted for 35s. TIL.
  2. If the unit allows it, go for it. My unit used to allow 90 credit hours to apply, but you had to graduate the two semesters after no matter what. They got burned by that when an applicant failed a class and didn't have their degree by that May. So now it's 105 credits and you get an extra semester for wiggle room. Every unit is different, some require the full diploma and some will make things work with the credit hours. My .02 is don't submit a package that won't be 100% correct. Otherwise when you apply the next year and have all the credentials you might be remembered as the guy/gal that submitted an incomplete package when you knew it was incomplete, which could hinder your chance of getting an interview/slot.
  3. Since your unit is 16's and you're transferring to 35s I'd guess you're VTANG. Since they have a board coming up in June, I'd apply for that one(again?). Your scores are very good and it's your home unit so you've got that going for you. The 16 board you didn't get selected for, did you ask for feedback on why not? As far as debating over fighters and heavies with airlines in sight, I've seen just as many fighter guys go to major airlines as I've seen heavy guys. In the end, apply to wherever you want and see what presents itself.
  4. Guard, Reserves, and Active all attend everything together now. TFOT, IFT (I think), UPT, and follow on. Just getting picked up is different for each one.
  5. Enlist if you have to, it does help, but only really if you have to, to get into a unit that only hires from within. Fly as much as you can to make SURE you would want to do this for the next 10-12 years. If you do enlist, crew chief (Tactical Aircraft Maintenance), Aircrew Flight Equipment, etc. Basically any job you're dealing with the jet or the pilots. You've got your bachelors and you're young, do well on the AFOQT and TBAS and you have a good shot.
  6. I failed depth perception test at MEPS enlisting too, I was told after I left MEPS that you're supposed to look left and right during the test. No idea if that is true or not since I haven't been back to MEPS or to Wright Patt to try it out.
  7. Just going to copy/paste what I put in another thread about enlisting. Depends on the unit you want to enlist in, but results may vary. The unit I'm enlisted in is a fighter unit btw. Just throwing my .02 out here from the experience I have gone through, I agree with what brabus is saying but I also disagree. I am in a similar situation with my unit. They only hire from within and have only picked off the street one time in that past 10 years. I started college late at 20, enlisted at 21 with a 20k bonus with a year of college under my belt, went to BMT and crew chief tech school which were 8 months, so had to miss a year of school. Now graduating at 25 with equivalent of about year and a half of TIS being a DSG, great contacts, awards, back seat ride in the Viper, gained a lot of respect for the enlisted side, and got to enjoy college while only having to give up one weekend a month. Enlisting did delay the process since I will be putting in my first application next month, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. ALSO, the monthly GI bill for school is a nice $780 a month, and just having a military ID is very helpful. As for AFSC's I was always told to try and get AFE (aircrew flight equipment) or something in OPS, but none were available. So crew chief was the next best, I'm in phase docks so not much exposure to pilots, but just walk on over to OPS and majority of guard pilots that I've spoken to are more than willing to sit down and talk about the slot and anyway they can help.
  8. Just to add on things Kylrs reminded me of, the monthly GI bill for school is a nice $780 a month, and just having a military ID is very helpful. 10. Awesome, that's exactly what I was looking to hear. Appreciate the response, FlyArmy.
  11. Thanks for the response, black hills tj. I should've added specific details, for example an ANG unit that is an RTU base as well. If you get picked up by them and you HAVE to leave for your seasoning of 2 years to an active base, at that point can you pick an active F-16 Guard or Reserve to do those 2 years of seasoning or does it still have to be specifically Guard F-16's.
  12. Hi all, If selected for a Guard F-16 unit, after RTU, in the two years of seasoning, can you go to a reserve F-16 unit to accomplish that seasoning? Or does it specifically have to be a Guard unit that sponsors your seasoning? elvis

  14. Appreciate the feedback, just keeping an open mind if there might be certain areas that need improving. Having a year or so till applying, trying to get a small headstart on any changes that could help my chances. Sent from my Pixel XL using Baseops Network Forums mobile app

Kept in touch with my squadron and group commander (both 3000+ hour pilots) so they know who I am when the time comes to apply. As well as other pilots on the base that have done the enlisted to pilot process. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Elvis
