  1. Regarding the AvB the current discussion is to expect some disappointment this year. General Wells posted a lot of leading comms on Facebook to this point. The fact is, the USAF needs to justify the bonus to congress, and that justification is difficult when retention is at the highest its been since 9/11. It may only be temporary because of COVID, but its there. If I had to speculate, I believe they will still offer the bonus but in either a reduced amount (back to 25K and maybe even 20K for some fields) or they will only offer the 5+ year options. Regarding your AMC options, do you have any former AMC commanders you are comfortable enough to reach out to and ask if you're on their bar napkin?
  2. A really good discussion there on whether IDE makes you competitive for command, or if people who get selected for IDE generally tend to be high performers who are going to find and get vectored into the right paths either way.
  3. I love this dudes channel. His use of whiteboards makes me wonder if he went to some weird engineering nerd WIC or something.
  4. This is a real concern. Germany thought they could go all wind/solar and now they are in the middle of one of the coldest winters in history while Putin snapchats his handle on the gas valve during declining EU/Russia relations. Its not just commuters. There is a reason Tesla and GM started looking at Pickup trucks next. #1, they are by far the worst gas guzzlers. #2, they have a huge niche as a business utility vehicle. There's a huge market for electric vehicles, it just hasn't been fully realized. Once you've been hooked on the convenience of NOT having to go to a gas station, its really hard to go back. The only hiccup with electric vehicles at the moment is infrastructure for cross country. And therefore, the luxury Sedan market will probably be the last one to convert. GM plans to be all electric vehicles by 2040. I think you overall point though is we cannot just skip from mineral fuel to clean energy. There is a step in between that isn't fully realized yet, and this is the crux of the issue. There isn't an energy source yet that is as cheap or abundant as mineral wealth that can sustain the worlds growing population.
  5. Well you're right man, it's a good problem to have; and while optimism for the airlines is great, I think IDE offers you more security and promotion potential. Just reading your post, I feel like you already know what you want to do. Don't follow the crowd man. Make your own path.
  6. Oh man. It's a shame those airline interviews treat your baseops.net reputation as important as your flying hours. You need at least 1500 likes I hear to even get in the door. 😂
  7. "Bumble Cofounder Becomes World’s Youngest Self-Made Woman Billionaire, Thanks To IPO" https://www.forbes.com/sites/angelauyeung/2021/02/11/bumble-founder-whitney-wolfe-herds-fortune-rockets-past-1-billion-as-dating-app-goes-public/ This actually doesn't bother me. Except that it seems to directly conflict with this: "Kylie Jenner is still the youngest self-made billionaire in the world" https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2020/04/07/kylie-jenner-is-still-the-youngest-self-made-billionaire-in-the-world/amp/ So how does a 31 year old set the record for being youngest self made female billionaire when a 22 year old did it last year? Or does she identify as 21? I know this isn't specifically "woke" discussion but it seems like we are just double handing out achievements now to make news. Maybe someone can explain this to me?
  8. 1.) Commanders should not be asking people whether they got the vaccine or not. As long as it's on an emergency authorization thats health privledged information between a person and their provider. 2.) People are definitely skipping at my OCONUS base, but that probably has more to do with talks on vaccine passports accelerating and people in a hurry to travel this summer. EUCOM, I think, has had the most oppressive lockdown restrictions of those I've I informally surveyed. People are pretty pent up here and want to get out. If the vaccine is the ticket, than so be it.
  9. Reports from several coworkers that it is also with the nausea/vomiting which honestly really has me panicked.
  10. If the LOC/LOA isn't in your PIF anymore, my hunch is, its gone for good. Other things you said though are spot on. Just because Gen Kelly says its not a 1 mistake AF doesn't make it so. And the second and third order effects of this law were clearly not thought through.
  11. Congrats man. Still a good sign. I'll hope the best for you.
  12. Also the problem that you don't even get matching until you've been on the BRS for 2 years. Meaning at 10 years of service, you would have only got matching for 8 years before getting out.
  13. I don't know. I'm contemplating it if I don't get picked up for school but not sure if I missed the window. (However with AOC and AFFOR tickets punched I'm hoping they'd make an exception.)
  14. Side Bar: IDE comments aren't visible until Monday but at work today we noticed if you are a definitely attend, that will reflect in the top lines of the masked ODP.
  15. WTF? https://www.guitarworld.com/news/man-builds-guitar-out-of-his-dead-uncles-skeleton-uses-it-to-play-black-metal
  16. So it seems like the big change is that LOCs and LOAs will now need to generate a UIF or find some other mechanism to ensure they get to the board. I don't think people that make these decisions recognize the full fallout though. There was already a hesitation to give officers discipline except in the most extreme of circumstances. This is just going to amplify that.
  17. Right but the question is how? What are they going to do short of mandating US companies pay in USD and shutting off the internet?
  18. Interesting idea since the whole point of crypto currencies was to remove the neccessity of banks after the 2008 financial crash. As far as it replacing regular currency, that has more to do with merchants than governments. If merchants began to accept it in mass, I think the USG is going to have a very hard time slowing it down. So things that will make it difficult though is the requirement to pay people in USD and pay taxes in USD. But you could also get around that by paying people minimum wage in USD and the rest of their wage in crypto.
  19. Have we sacked the guy responsible for the sacking?
  20. WALL-E is offended by this discussion.
  21. Why she isn't already removed for this is beyond me.
  22. I just took a Crypto class on Udemy and after completing it and fully understanding the mechanisms that make it work, I don't think there's anyway it can go away. It will change in value but will always be an investment option. The news that businesses like Tesla and Apple are begining to horde crypto and are ready to accept payment in it, is only promising for it's future.
  23. ....
  24. Yeah, I agree this is the best idea and I've seen it flouted before. It needs congressional approval but it's a good idea. The problem with just letting people accrue is you can't just let everyone take off 4 months one year. Either that, or create a mechanism where people get the leave but can only use it in conjunction with their terminal. The advantage to this situation is you can still accrue time/days toward retirements/etc...
