No but forced quarantine has held up to constitutional test before and philosophers have made successful moral arguments on suspending individual rights for broad public health. I believe typhoid Mary had to go through several constitutional test before she was ultimately suspended to an island for 27 years in quarantine. Also, we cannot underestimate the effect of culture on the success of far east nations to contain the virus. In general, people are for more cognoscente of their social reputation there and they are more likely to self enforce quarantines and personnel hygeine to save face. I'm as distraught over this as anyone. I literally just got to Europe eager to travel and I've been confined to my house the whole time except to go to work. I'm hoping we can come up with some smart mitigations within a month or so and return some freedom to people.

The 1-2% mortality rate is entirely reliant on the capability of your health care system to handle the influx surge of people. It exponentially raises as you start receiving cases you need to turn away due to lack of hospital beds/supplies/staff. Italy is a good example of this as their facilities are now completely overwhelmed to the point where they are not even bothering to treat patients over 80 in a last ditch effort to divert resources on people with a better chance of survival.

Brabus, I 100% agree. It's frustrating being "key personnel" and still doing the grind with reduced support while other functions are staying home. In the end that's what we all signed up for though.

In short, yes. If you are AD, the commander can lawfully order you to refrain from certain activities including travel. This is not normal and in 11 years in the military I've never seen it before to this scale. Usually curfews or temporary travel bans or night club bans are common, but this has been a bit extreme. I tell you this because undoubtebly this will pass and you will have a mostly normal life again at some point. But we are doing almost the same thing at our base. (Must remain within 1 hour of base).

With the recent leak that the USG is preparing for this to be an 18 month epidemic I don't think we can afford to stop training or we would lose all of our ascencions. The overall strategy to slow the spread isn't so much to stop people from getting it but has more to do with the ability of the medical care industry to respond. If everyone is infected over night your hospitals are going to quickly run out of beds and you will be in the position of Italy who recently announced that they are simply going to stop treating people over 80 to focus resources on people who have a better chance of survival.

That's some funny shit! 😂

At my unit in Europe we haven't stopped flight ops as well. Meanwhile, If you haven't seen this, CollegeHunor predicted the CoronaVirus over 9 months ago.

I can see AMC having a huge readiness requirement in all of this though depending how it plays out. That said, you probably don't need crews carrying the normal training volume. But the military probably needs to continue to sustain the rapid logistics capability if this devolves into a humanitarian crises.

I've never met a General who didn't think the function of his forces wasnt mission critical.

Dude you couldn't be more accurate. I don't think the JCS gave any warning to the COCOMS or lower and at the tactical levels commanders are freaking out as to what this means. People are being recalled from leave and confined to the local area around their base. TDY folks are being told to gear down at their base for am extended time. All future leave, tdy, PCSs cancelled and some people are already in TLA and have had their HHG shipped. So many lives upended by this.

Fair to say though that the pilot shortage has largely cultural causes and that culture change is not immediate. The general at the beggining of his article is likely going to end up displeased that there isn't an easy answer to this.

Really annoying for going anywhere but does become super easy for planning. You just get used to leave the house with 30 minutes.to go anywhere. When I was talking about smiling Sally above o was talking about a homeless woman on Valencia and Craycroft? That used to walk up and down traffic with a sign that said "Smiling Sally still smiles for her troops".

I thought APZ is gone? Aren't you still technically "in the zone" under the new rules? Or is that not how it worked out?

Wasn't Mosely also fired for refusing to take directions to reduce our near peer capability/readiness in lieu of being all in on the GWOT? This is where I forgive and also condemn Schwartz. Understandably he was given a job under the premise he would do what his predecessor would not. At the same time though, it would take a string of dissenting GOs to make any sort of impact. In fact, at the level of Washington, Generals don't hold any real power.

I met him last year and was super impressed by his vision of multi domain dominance. I've worked with several people that worked with him at PACAF, CENTCOM or in the 8FW and had nothing but good things to say.

There are existing engineering solutions to all of this already though. They just aren't purchased/implemented.

I dunno, I'm not particularly liberal, and can't stand most SJWs. But like the beard and turban topic I find myself just not giving a shit. Wtf sings the 3rd verse anyway?

This is where my view comes from. I don't want people of different faiths in the military who are willing to compromise their spiritual fabric because of something that offers an unknown measure of military effectiveness. If they are willing to compromise their moral identity for something so trivial, what will happen when someone comes to them with a much larger oppurtunity. The options for them are currently 1.) don't join, or 2.) compromise. Largely, many of them won't join, and as a force, that weakens us because we are missing the insights unique to their cultural upbringing; a lesson I think we've squarely been smashed in the dick on for the last 20 years. I think Homestar nailed it when he said we simply have a cultural fabric to diverse to make everyone exactly the same. So make it as unified as possible, then realises those differences are actually our strengths. We are looking for unity of purpose, not unity of thought/ideas/expereince. -

You can view it however you want man. I've personally never felt my "esprit de corp" hurt by when a woman runs faster, slower or in the same time as me. That might say more about you than the force as a whole. People wrapped up on this, just like people wrapped up on turbans and beards, have shown a really hollow adherence to a very clouded and artificial concept (esprit de corp) that honestly doesn't have a whole lot of backing for how you can measure it or it's contribution to combat power. -

Alright look dude, the information is out there. I'm not going to fish it for you. Yes, you should as an officer, spend considerable time understanding the standards you uphold your subordinates to and WHY they are there. If you don't spend time understanding those standards, that's on you, not me. I never had trouble knowing my units doc statement and knowing my job as an officer. -

1.) I think that's the incorrect usage of "Okay Boomer." 2.) What I said is absolutely 100% correct and you can google and watch Dr Neil Baumgartner yourself (guy who designed AF PT test) and he will tell you the same. He selected the standard of 45-60 VO2 max because it was heavily correlated with lower risk for diabetes and heart disease. He used a large study by the Cooper institute to determine that women who run between XX:XX and YY:YY have a VO2 MAX of 45-60 and men have to run significantly faster to demonstrate the same VO2 max. Regardless, the entire intent of the test is to measure your VO2 max. He even discusses that he wanted to get rid of Push-ups and Situps all together because they don't scientifically assess anything and have no associated standards, but he was legit over ruled by boomers in that case who argued a military organization should do push up. (which is a really really dumb reason to do push-ups) Anyway, the point is, we don't need this assininely strict interpretation of uniformity to have esprit de corp or good order and discipline. Women have been integrated for nearly 40 years now with different dress and appearence standards and hair standards and while the AF is a burning dumpster fire, there are about a million things I can point fingers at because I think it's unfair women can wear skirts and I can't. -

We do have the same standards for PT. The standard is you have to maintain a level of fitness that promotes an extended life and lower health care premiums. The standard for women is nearly identical to men. It's designed to assess a VO2 max between I believe 45 and 60. It just so happens women need a lot less performance to do that. -

I really can't understand the frustration on this either. We're at a point where finding people who are capable and willing to join the armed forces is becoming harder and harder yet we want to tell people they have to choose their country over their God. That's simply not going to happen.
