This conversation makes me salty about an expereince I had being beraded by a squadron commander for $50K of debt. $40K student loans, $10K to finance my car, as a Lt. Said commander was an academy grad and it occured to me he was incapable of seeing a problemset faced by a lot of people. He was making the presumption that everyone started off in the Air Force at 0 and could not rationalize what i spent all the money on or why. He presumed i would be better off as a debt free airmen than a debt free Lt. Now im a debt free captain and presume im way better off than a debt free TSgt.

Lets be honest, what we all want is a two piece with a legacy flight suit top that transforms into dress blue wool pants on the bottom. Now you can look cool as f and prance a nice looking ass at the same time. Just sayin...

Maybe this is better fit for the Palace Chase thread but since we are talking retirement differences at the moment, I heard a nasty rumor recently that if you get out and go guard, you need to go VFR direct, do not pass go, do not collect $200, if you want to stay in the high-3 retirement system. Any break in service will inadvertently volunteer you to BRS since you are considered a "new hire" again. Anyone tracking this, or know any truth to it?

Am I reading these graphs correctly? Take rates across the board for all pilots are in the low teens to high single digits? Holy crap.... who will run the squadrons in 5 years? Apparently CSOs (take rate 70%).

I dont know, I seem to remember student cross country discussions in UP going like this: First it was had to stay CONUS. Then, CONUS but w/in 8 hours. Then CONUS, w/in 8 hours, and military field. Then CONUS, w/in 6 hours, towered military field with sufficient instrumentation to depart in all weather. These OG's get more and more possessive of their planes and next thing you know the x-country comes up and your choices are Canon, Holloman and some other random shit hole. At that point you're not going off base anyway, so you may as well just pick which ever one is closest to home to get you back soonest.

Is this common? Seems to be more and more impossible in most communities Ive been around. To clarify, I know about white jets/RPAs, but I mean making an MWS change seems like a rare thing to me outside of selective programs.

Switched to a pixel 2 when i got overseas orders mainly because it has an awesome camera and no silly device locking mechanisms. Wouldnt go back now. I love the android eco system way better, switched tablets to a galaxy tab s3 as well.

Were you reconsidering that white jet tour your functional offered you? -
Reserve to Active duty during UPT for Age waived trainees

I would advise against the misconception that i had when i joined which was that AD got to "see more action" than the reserve. Unless you define action as the combative word gymnastics you use to spar with against the MPF airman holding your PCS orders. Yeah i got at least 3 air medals worth of that bull shit. -

More important question to ask is: if you were already hired by the reserve/guard, why would you want to switch!?!?! -
Its a shame, if this could have been reworked to at least be tolerable. I would have actually liked to have done something like this, but not at the cost of 2 years away from my family. If they could have found away to reduce that commitment right there, then I may have actually considered something like this. That and from what I've heard, the actual role of the Hands got diminished by overly cautious commanders who had no idea how to utilize them appropriately.

You raise a valid point, when businesses start to part time as political lobbies, there is definitely an eye brow raise when the government continues to do business with them. On another note, I do know one person who recieved paperwork for not using his GTC to pay for hotel. So it does happen.

?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
FLEA replied to FreudianSlip's topic in General Discussion
If you are on a dependent restricted tour and decide to 7-day opt because of this BS requal ADSC, what happens? Does your DEROS and DOS get moved to the day your ADSC ends and you are stuck without your family for potentially 3-4 years? Asking for a friend. -
Left RPAs a while ago but when i did the functional was dissapointed at a squadron level brief that HAF intended to fufil the promise his predecessor verbally made to return all UPT-D to manned, argueing there was no obligation to fulfill a promise a previous CSAF made. That tells you about all you need to know of this person. Anyway, he mentioned this would cause some bathtubbing and a plan would need to be made to recoup the ranks. I guess they figured that plan out.

Commanders are dropping like flies this year

Check out this one: https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/08/06/fired-marine-co-was-high-risk-aviator-obsessed-flight-time-probe.html Not Air Force but holy crap! When your wing commander wants out to goto the airlines more than you do, you know you're F'ed! -

FLEA replied to FreudianSlip's topic in General Discussion
On the bright side I learned recently NATO AWACS has it's own school house and you cannot be forced to take an ADSC there in any phase of training because NATO pays for your training, not the USAF. I wonder if the same situation exist elsewhere? -

So how can they justify that an in house upgrade is valued the same as an IQT syllabus? The whole point of in house is to save the Air Force money. But not to save pilots time I see. -

I dunno. They might win big in getting a few years out of RPA returns who have no choice but to suck it up if they want a reasonable escape vector to the Airlines. -

The house has already approved up to a Space Corp in last year's NDAA. I distinctly remember it because it made the news as this awesome thing people thought was cool. When POTUS announced it, it was ridiculed with some of the best starship troopers memes to date. By the wording Corp I think they are envisioning a model similar to the Marines. Separate service but falls neatly under Deparent of the AF.
