2020 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board
UPT_Hopeful replied to Bob Uecker's topic in Pilot Selection Process
If you're physical says MFS pending, you will go to WPAFB for those test on the page described. For the color vision test, yes you do a second one, but it is different from your first one. None of the test you did at your FC1 are repeated with the exception of any they noted in your initial physical to follow up. It's a different CCT. Yes you could DQ, but it is highly unlikely. You will redo another FC1 when you in process at UPT as well. On that page it talks about around 5% will get DQ'd from that appointment. A pending MFS is more of a general follow up, and you can see on the page a large portion cannot DQ you. They are not trying to DQ you. You will already have PCS orders at that point; they don't want to cancel them. I think that thought process comes from people that did ROTC. They are routinely DQ'd at WPAFB, but they are doing their initial FC1s there. You're not. You are only doing pending MFS. Don't stress it. -

Unless something has changed between this year and last, that is incorrect. If you have completed a FC1 at your base, the MFS follow up will take about 1/2 a day to complete, and you are not redoing what you've already done. (I.e. no depth perception testing) It is additional test like computer testing. For ROTC that would be correct, but for AD the FC1 you do at your base counts for what it is. You can find more information here. Please keep in mind that this information does describe the process for how the day goes. That is not necessarily correct, but the test it lays out is accurate. Hope that helps! Sorry to jump in on your thread, just came across looking to get updates on some friends who applied this year. https://www.wpafb.af.mil/Welcome/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/853108/ -

I don't. I'd say there's plenty of us that still don't. Looks like the ones with them already are the same ones that got notified first. I guess not all FSS are created equal lol.- 863 replies

Those of you with MFS dates, are you using the projected training with this title? I assume that must be it since it says it's one day, and the last three letters are MFS.- 863 replies

I'm expecting the TDYs to get loaded tomorrow based off of last year's turnaround. The PCSs though probably closer to the end of the week or the beginning of the next.- 863 replies

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how alternates work? Are there some for each job, and what happens if they reject? Like do people get slotted URT alternate only, and then if they get a real slot and reject it could they reapply? Seems silly to make an alternate held to the same standard as the actual selects.- 863 replies

2019 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board
UPT_Hopeful replied to UPT_Hopeful's topic in Pilot Selection Process
That sounds in line with last year. The guy I know that was picked up last year found out TDYs the week of the public release, and his PCS was put in a couple days after that. It sounds like they already have the info, they just aren't going to push it out before CC's have had a chance to notify people of selection. Makes sense since I've still yet to hear anything from my cc.- 863 replies

Also, I know someone mentioned it. If you want to try and get a little advance notice, your MPF should show training pending once they have you in the system.- 863 replies

Purely judging off of last year's thread, it looks like selects will know around Monday for the Wright-Pat physical, IFT, UPT dates. I know a guy picked up last year, and if you need IFT then they will most likely TDY you from your current job before you PCS for UPT.- 863 replies

The FC1 is scheduled by them. It's a TDY and will happen before you ever PCS. When it happens really depends on how much time you have between class start and the results. They assume you will pass the follow up exam, so you will get a PCS date at the same time pretty much as you get your appointment date. Some base med groups actually do the full exam, and you don't have to go the Wright Pat at all. This is a question, I've wondered too. Fortunately, I'm not in that situation, but from talking to IPs and people in the pipeline now, it doesn't seem like it's a deal breaker if you don't have a TS for training. I've been told by a couple people they never saw anything beyond unclassified. Makes sense though. It sounds like classified material is when you get your actual airframe and more so for operational missions.- 863 replies

2019 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board

I have the exact same feeling as you. Last year's release was delayed around two weeks, but they also had the gov't shutdown and the suprise extra money. I think they probably delayed to add the extra slots. Hopefully with there being a lot more predictability this year, it'll all be on time. Who knows though? I never thought they'd be pushing the deadline and expanding waivers either...- 863 replies

2019 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board
UPT_Hopeful replied to UPT_Hopeful's topic in Pilot Selection Process
That's my question too... Originally the release said we'd know mid-December, so I figured it would be on commanders' desks by maybe the 10th. When I submitted my package though, they emailed me saying I should know late December. That didn't make a ton of sense to me though because I figured AFPC would be on minimal manning then. I'm hoping the late December is the official release, and that our commanders will get the early notification before everyone is off for Christmas. Also, it doesn't make too much sense how they expect short notice PCS's to start in January if they are telling you late December. Two weeks to get orders and out process seems pretty tight!- 863 replies

From what I've gathered, I'm not sure there's much weight on OPR's either. Perhaps when they are deciding those that have been in for more than 4 years or so, but I know of numerous people picked up before their first OPR ever closed out. Traditionally if a board is looking at OPRs, then they will require you to submit them with your package. As the package didn't require them, I'd say they would more focus in the bullets in the 215. I highly doubt the board members are going to look up everyone's OPRs when they have only a week or two max to make their selections. I believe the packages are the size they are for good reason. It provides them exactly what they're looking for. EDIT: I just went back to look because I thought I might be wrong about the length of the board. They will have just 3 days to make their selections, it looks like. 14-16 Nov is when the board convenes. Even more evidence they probably aren't looking at anything beyond what you submitted. The rest of the time until the selection announcement is getting the paperwork all the way through to the Gen at the top.- 863 replies

2019 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board
UPT_Hopeful replied to UPT_Hopeful's topic in Pilot Selection Process
Ya, I don't think anyone here is assuming your wing ranking is what will push you through. I took the posters comment as he/she was looking to gauge the number of applicants that bases are averaging. I doubt the board puts a lot of weight on it since it is a poor metric when comparing packages across the AF, and how well does a Wg/Cc know the people he/she is ranking..?- 863 replies

2019 Air Force Active Duty UPT Board
UPT_Hopeful replied to UPT_Hopeful's topic in Pilot Selection Process
Full disclosure, I have absolutely 0 insider knowledge, this is purely a personal guess... I would speculate the board was moved up because we are expected to have the 2019 NDAA signed into law on time for the first time in two decades (potentially tomorrow). Traditionally, the AF hasn't known it's FY budget until months into the FY which has made it difficult to figure out how many selects can be picked up. I'd imagine that's why it has been in January/February. Last year's board hinted that the budgets had influence when the release for last year's was actually postponed after the budget NDAA announcement came out, and we saw an increase in selects. As far as number of selectees, I would imagine it would be similar to last year or maybe a little more. That is speculation based on the fact that the pool of applicants will probably be smaller this year with the boards moving up (therefore the same number of selects would mean a higher overall selection rate), and the fact that the AF has publicly stated they are increasing pilot production by 200 more pilots a year going forward. Once again though, this is all my own personal opinion on the question you asked. Best of luck to you, if you're submitting this year!- 863 replies

You can apply three times, but you must rank all jobs you are medically qualified for each time. If selected for any slot and you reject that selection, then you cannot reapply for the UFT board. If you're asking about my reasoning for waiting, that is because had he been picked up for CSO instead of pilot, he would have had to take it or stay his original AFSC. All of this information is in the board release by the way. If you haven't read it, I would highly recommend you do.- 863 replies

I will say that one take away from last year's board that I see. Is reading through the old thread and seeing those that got picked up, I think Big Blue is sending a pretty clear message. That is that they want as fresh of bodies as possible to retain in the long run. It looks like the less time in service you have, it may give you a better shot.- 863 replies

Ya, you never know... They've had a CSO with a 1 PCSM. It's possible. I think it shows they really do look at the whole person, but the things that you can control like your PCSM and PPL can help boost you. I know someone picked up with a 65, no PPL last year. I was trying to tell him to wait a year and boost his score to make sure he'd get a pilot slot over one of the others. I was clearly wrong. He walked away with the pilot slot. Then there are people with PPLs getting passed over if you look at last year's thread.- 863 replies
