  1. AMD deployment? Reading between the lines, it sounds super awesome...
  2. Going AD, heading to join the boys out in Mildenhall.
  3. All of the talk in the PRF/promotion thread about MyVector, etc, made me start wondering about jobs at the O-4/O-5 level. I’m getting nearer to my switch over to the AF and I’m trying to get some clarity on what I can expect as I don’t have access to anything in MyVector, etc. For SA, I’m switching over to fly the 135, and my first set of orders will have me with a squadron flying like normal. After that, what options exist? For comparison, in the Navy after a senior O-4 tour with a squadron, if you don’t make squadron command there’s an almost zero percent chance of ever flyingp again. From what I understand, there’s a higher likelihood of flying in the Air Force as a non-command O-5, and I have to imagine that if I don’t pick up O-5 that I’ll have greater flexibility in staying in the cockpit. That said, I’m not naive about how the machine works and I know non-flying jobs are a possibility as well. It’s a broad question but I appreciate any gouge on what I can expect. EDIT. To focus any input, what do I do to stay in the cockpit for the rest of my career? Can I volunteer to stay in a normal ops squadron? Go to an OSS and augment as a ‘guest flyer’?
  4. It was virtually unheard of for age waivers prior to this change so I’d be surprised if one could get approved now. That said, if you don’t ask the answer is automatically no.
  5. How old are you? The Navy just increased their max age to 32 for dudes coming in off the street.
  6. I dunno, it looked like Daenerys got slow at the merge which let the Ice Dragon get close enough for guns.
  7. The unit commander can’t order a specific individual to undergo a ‘random’ test. If the commander has reason to suspect a service member is/has used drugs, the commander can order a test but the individual must be informed of his rights and why the test is being administered. What usually happens, the ‘random’ test is generated via a computer and the person in charge of the program doesn’t change any variables from the previous text. For your specific case, what likely happened was that when you were in a flight status your name popped up on a list and the administrator marked you unavailable due to flight schedule, etc. When you went DNIF that no longer applied.
  8. I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but could this Rhat dude take someone busting his balls? I’ve met some pretty big assholes in my day and they seem to soften up when you throw shade back at them. Of course, this dude does seem to be on a whole different level.
  9. The only true benefit I’ve seen with the two piece is when I’m in the helo and I have to wear hard and soft body armor with full kit. The ‘combat shirt’ makes that exceedingly more comfortable. Otherwise it’s really not needed.
  10. Hell yeah. If you get naked you can shit facing backwards and have a convenient little shelf to hold your snacks.
  11. I’ve worn literally every flavor of flight suit from the original Army two piece of early Iraq, high speed Crye two-pieces, and even an orange one piece that was a ‘SAR helo’ suit. I’ve recently gone back to wearing the one piece bag because nothing is as comfortable as a properly broken in one piece bag. And it’s really not that hard to take off a one piece to take a dump, and I’m a pretty big dude.

    Divorce

I don’t know your particular situation, but I’ll second/third the staying in the house if you can. Especially in Florida, if you move out she can try to use that against you wrt child custody, etc, as she can phrase it as ‘he left the family’. I had a few bros get divorced in Florida and they moved out and their hindsite was they should’ve stayed there as long as they could.
  13. What’s a typical month look like flying international? Three/four four day trips? I’m assuming the airlines give you a full day between legs? I can definitely see how laid back it could be, you fly the one flight, take your crew rest, then fly the next trip home.
  14. Is the T-38 considered dual piloted? That’s where I think I may have assumed incorrectly. Navy single seat absolute mins are 200 - 1/2, dual piloted can take it to published mins.
  15. If that’s published mins, what’s wrong with that?
  16. Of all things, I have a feeling this one may be the most difficult to get past :)
  17. 99, Just got my approval for transfer into the KC-135 community and I'll be heading to Mildenhall in about a year. I've been flying helicopters with the Navy for about 15 years so I'm looking for some gouge/guidance on what I need to start studying wrt Air Force specific flight rules as well as Air Force-isms in general. I realize I have a learning curve ahead of me so I'm trying to get ahead of the game. For reference, my background, active Navy O-4 helo driver with about 2,700 hours in both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. And before anyone asks, I would rather go to the Air Force and get my retirement than get out now and slog through the regionals to make mins for the majors. Appreciate the info/help.
  18. The last few posts basically describes organic tanking that the carrier airwing already does. Granted, Navy organic tanking has typically been around the boat but it's also an option to push them forward with the strike package if needed. In a larger peer-on-peer, the organic tanker could plug on the -135 or whatever, then push forward and be closer to the fight with the rest of the fighters/bombers. Now you have a fighter dude flying in a tanker role (apologies to the tanker dudes here) that also has a helluva lot better understanding of the tactics required to fight the opposing force. I realize that it would also take a ton of smaller jets to match the give capacity of a -135 or similar, but it's definitely an alternative to the traditional big wing tanker. The difficulty is making a Hornet (or similar) in the 5-wet configuration LO, and I have yet to see anyone discuss turning the F-35 into a tanker, although I won't be surprised if someone in the Navy eventually tries it. In the AF construct though, to my Navy brain, I can't see the fighter guys ever being willing to fly in an organic tanker role.
  19. Why invite the e-dogs? Is there something that prohibits a naming from happening with just the officers? Kangaroo courts (Navy version of the naming) happen all the time, in squadrons that have a ton of enlisted aircrew, and I can't recall ever hearing of an enlisted dude showing up.
  20. To be fair, its not the guys with stars that actually approve us to go to war, or to keep us in said warfare. That said, it is up to those same dudes to accurately advise the folks that do make the decisions to send us to war. That part is what appears to have been forgotten.
  21. https://americanmilitarynews.com/2018/12/first-female-combat-pilot-martha-mcsally-appointed-to-mccains-senate-seat/?utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=alt&utm_source=dvf&fbclid=IwAR3tvhazae3ABbVN664P3IVFNGc5VAxFWXnsE0gOKHNXXKa1IDFA_EJQcTo Looks like she pulled off the end-around into the Senate seat.
  22. What is the policy on wearing previously issued multi-cam? I thought I saw something somewhere that said those are also authorized but I can't find any memo/instruction regarding it.
  23. https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2018/12/10/alarming-number-of-mobility-pilots-decline-bonuses-to-keep-flying-overall-bonus-take-rates-tick-up-slightly/?fbclid=IwAR12BaegjfW_MjxYv5hJnCNg278Bm5vyN-bvKEWr08abS6KFCRidOxDFxKQ From the outside looking in, Gen Miller's comments about reducing the 365s seem promising.
  24. I was in Africa when this happened and there were a lot of cultural issues that had become accepted norms, that, once this happened made everyone step back and go ‘wtf?’. That said, the Captain was getting scapegoated and we all saw it happening. I’m glad Secretary Mattis recognized what was happening, but it’s sad it took the SecDef to do so.
