  1. That’s how he explained it to me. He didn’t want to get stuck with a PCS ADSC.
  2. My good friend just retired as an O-4 and several non-selects. He was offered continuation up to 24 but could get out any time he wanted prior to. I only mention it because I was surprised, I didn’t realize it was basically up to the individual on when to get out if they accepted continuation. I thought it was agreeing to stay till 24.
  3. Sorry to hear it man. And yeah, I’ve heard the same.
  4. Sorry man, that’s rough. Gotta ask, any trouble in your past? DUI, etc?
  5. The takeaway is that all of the stuff Karl Hungus was listing gets your points towards a good year and ultimately retirement. Two IDTs a day, an RMP, AT, ATP, ATFP, etc, are all ways to get those points. If your goal is to minimize time at the mil job while also getting points, you can do IDTs and RMPs remotely. I’ve been out of the reserve world for about two years but it was up to the unit for the other options to work remote. I wouldn’t be surprised if covid has allowed even AT to be remote.
  6. Call me crazy but war with a peer adversary will have a lot more immovable targets than a bunch of nomads living in huts on a mountainside. JASSM isn’t the #1 option but I think it’s a good option to have.
  7. I used the Petmate Sky Kennel. Worked really well, just double check things like metal bolts and the screen mesh size. I think the rules may have changed recently but it’s been about 18 months since we flew my dog overseas. Plus, coming to the UK, expect to pay $$$. The import rules are different here. PM if you want and I can put you in touch with a local company that does almost 100% business with local mil folks.
  8. It’s not hard, but I’ve sat in those MPCs and I’ve yet to see a fighter dude ask more than ‘what’s your max offload’. I can speak tactical stuff all day, did it for 14 years prior to flying the tanker, but it’s hard to integrate when you’re basically told to sit in the corner and color. That said, fault is also on the tanker side too. If you ask an average tanker guy what’s a max detect/max engage ring for an SA-whatever, they probably don’t have a clue.
  9. That’s my point. The results of said business case(s) and how to manage their bonus structure was entirely up to the AF, not Congress. Nothing in the NDAA prohibited maxing out the bonus for everyone.
  10. Congress authorized the max amount the services could give for the bonus. The individual services decide how to use it. So, the 5 year minimum commitment, no bonus for 11R, etc, falls squarely on the AF.
  11. I picked up both 0-4 and O-5 APZ, so there is definitely a chance to still get selected. That said, both times I had outside opportunities lined up in the event I had gotten passed over twice. There’s always a chance to keep going but make sure you have a plan B.
  12. Saw this sorta thing on MCAS Miramar, some dude (civilian) parked in the Sergeant Major spot. Said base SgtMaj decides to take his license plate and leave a note because dude wasn’t ‘authorized’ that spot. Same SgtMaj was singing a different tune when this dude got security forces to go visit the SgtMaj with an arrest warrant for stealing a license plate.
  13. Stupid question perhaps, I’m assuming your referring to those guys that haven’t finished their initial UPT commitment and are considering a reclass?
  14. In the interest of keeping the rumor mill fully operational, this is what a dude in my squadron just sent me.
  15. I don’t doubt that’s the case but this new focus seems like they are asking the MWS squadrons to make up even more.
  16. If no one has seen it yet, I’d suggest talking to your wing Flight Hour Program manager about the recent interest HAF has shown in pilot seasoning hours. The AF is trying to make up for the flying hours lost in UPT by the MWS squadrons/wings.
  17. A more accurate question, how many of those students actually pop positive for COVID? Is it statistically significant? That would give a far better answer to whether or not the instructors are working with a high risk population.
  18. I’ve always wondered, if a CC was fired for what ends up being false accusations, do they have any legal recourse? My guess is no, but I’ve never actually looked for an answer.
  19. How much say would you have in where you go for command? Ie, if you apply for AETC command, you take command of anything they give you, or can you say ‘I only want an FTU’, etc? Similarly for command in AMC, what’s your ability to only take command of a flying squadron vice whatever else is out there?
  20. The senior guys I trust the most are those guys that have made mistakes and pressed through it to get where they are today. I dare say they are better leaders overall because they had so much more to overcome to succeed as compared to a golden child.
  21. Being fairly new, I find it interesting how much attention is given to the CMSAF role and the person in it. In 19 years of the Navy, I couldn’t give you one name of a MCPON (Navy top enlisted). I guess my point, the CMSAF seems it’s more about the person and less about the job. At least that’s my perception.
  22. As the title suggests, I’m curious how much the Sq/CCs in the various communities fly? In my part of the world, they don’t seem to fly that often. I’m wondering if it’s similar elsewhere or if they all tend to minimally fly?
  23. I guess agree to disagree. The kid couldn’t handle being told he was all jacked up and imploded. I think it’s a good thing because who knows how he’d handle life after flight school.
  24. I mean, if he couldn’t handle the stress getting yelled at, how could he handle the stress of flying a combat aircraft? Sounds like he wasn’t so solid of a pilot.
  25. Don’t act like you don’t know the name of that mag 😂
