Or Obamacare. That being said, in terms of “fast/slow moving legislation” it shouldn’t be this complicated to pass a freaking budget. Two times in one month that the government potentially shuts down is unsat.

Go be a pilot man! I have zero regrets and some of the proudest moments in my life were in an Air Force aircraft. However, have you considered the guard or reserves? Scroll through the threads to see all the shinanigans on active duty. You’re tying yourself to a 10 year commitment and you have no clue what aircraft you will fly. I strongly recommend looking into some guard or reserve units. You can still serve your country and fly military aircraft without some of the admin headache of active duty.

99.69%..the guy is a total D bag. Last year there were a handful of 0-4s who wanted to stay in because morale was so good at Dyess. Now, they all talk about bailing for the airlines.
-
Second time someone has asked if said dude is from Dyess, seeing a pattern here..

That’s unfortunate, how will they cherry pick the 1-2 year group’s HPOs if they don’t finish SOS in a timely manner?

Buddy, there is zero evidence besides a few staunch Democratic senators claiming he specifically said “shit-hole countries.” Several others’ in the room have claimed he did not make those statements. This drama is akin to the Fredrica Wilson debaucle where the media ran off with a story taken out of context. Look, there is plenty of factual subject matter with the POTUS and any politician to logically criticize but people are tired of hearing the boy cry wolf. Oh and since you want to quote Jesus: he also said that he who is sinless may cast the first stone. Tell me no other public figure critizing Trump hasn’t said more egregious things?

Do not bring it to Japan. I bought a $1000 cheapo Japanese car that lasted 5 years. Only used to to get from on base housing to work and back. Taxis and trains are amazing in Japan. Also, if you drive off base, the roads and parking lots are tiny, very hard to fit the bigger American cars.

Valid points, I didn’t think of the CRC duty aspect of ABMs. I apologize for contributing to the thread drift from cyber all the way to whether Robinson is fit to be CSAF!

Nailed it. Look, when I was in PACAF while she was CC, she was very well liked. I’m not knocking her as a leader and she very well could kick ass as CSAF. However, when I see her (and many others) with less hours than a mid level Captain, it makes me wonder what their priorities were that helped them get to where they are. Anyone who has been a scheduler understands who the “Penguins” are. They were the folks who would ask to be taken off flights for: masters homework, volunteer work, Air Force ball meetings, etc. While flying hours don’t translate to strategic leadership; we peons are just untrusting of someone who rose up the ranks without excelling at their primary duty. After the leadership clown shows from San Antonio to the Died, can you blame us?

Breadth is not always a good thing, in fact most here would be very hesitant to agree to this “cross-pollination” of sorts. Phoenix Mobility in AMC (where airlift guys fly tankers and vice versa) has been a disaster. Both the airlift and tanker communities have ended up with careerist toads who have no idea what they are doing. This isn’t to say that knowledge of other career fields isn’t critical as a strategic leader; but the depth and knowledge of being an expert in your career set goes a long way in developing a credible combat leader. Another hesitation is the creation of the HPO “high potential officer” caste. I believe the Air Force has been doing away with this concept, and rightfully so. For instance, we no longer have school selects. There is no way of knowing whether someone as a Captain would be a good strategic leader. The HPO lists, and believe me, they are out there, have created a class of untouchable “rising stars” regardless of performance while ignoring potentially strong leaders that didn’t fit a certain mold.

I think there is a lot of validity to create a separate cyber/space force. Not an expert in either, so maybe the cyber/space folks could speak up; but it sounds like that would be a way for each domain to secure the attention and funding it needs. Sometimes I think the Air Force has a culture of trying to do too much instead of focusing on being a master of set domains.

Let's face it, the pilots can't hack it Extremely sweeping and ignorant statement. That’s like saying cops can’t hack not killing innocent people so EMTs should step up.
-
Is this based on certain qualifications and leadership aspects or is it based on the SJW (social justice warrior) need to advance women regardless of qualification into leadership positions? There is an important difference...

Yepp, this will cost lives like sequestration; except this time Air Force leadership will be directly responsible.

Air Force to begin testing enlisted pilots
dream big replied to SPAWNmaster's topic in General Discussion
Negative, A code means pilot in command. There are rare instances where the aircraft commander has more power than a SQ/CC, which is necessary to literally protect the crew. That ability goes away real quick when said aircraft commander is suddenly outranked by most of the Air Force. Enlisted -> OTS -> UPT is awesome, I think it’s fantastic when for example crew chiefs commission and go fly the aircraft they worked on. Enlisted pilots without even going through the full extent of UPT is a recipe for disaster. -
Those slides are cool and all but I missed the part where it addresses retention. Can you imagine being the poor SOB Maj type stuck on the staff having to deal with this?

Heck that’s what our Wing King did (let’s have everyone complete the PRF process for “practice.”)

His FLUG will get delayed because he was voluntold to do honor guard for six months (like our loadmasters...) -
This wouldn’t be a bad idea, if said individuals were former military pilots. There would be several advantages, but the key one would be that they could focus on instruction and not non-flying queep. Now, this is all contingent upon getting many volunteers, which is highly skeptical considering locales and opportunity cost of airline pay.

What should the Air Force be if it is so broken now?
dream big replied to Clark Griswold's topic in General Discussion
...reward your war fighters, separate rated promotion board, FEFs go into OPRs, primary job bullets only in award packages (no fucking “spouse of the year” 31 line award packages that some poor patch that’s an exec has to edit.).. Bare essential additional duties, those that aren’t absorbed by civilians/CSSs; green dot/suicide prevention/etc. is a one time requirement in OTS, the academy, ROTC- (for your entire career.) <Those are some ways to retain talent. -
Maybe they are putting all these “sure to fail ideas” out there as bait for stop loss?

Nailed it, some of the snowflakes on JQP’s article on this matter stand to benefit by reading what you just said. -
Commanders are dropping like flies this year

Some people value things more than a pension or money. To each their own. -
Don’t go C-17s, very difficult finding the right runway and the gear handle. Better?

He said that it sucks, there is nothing manly or unmanly about acknowledging that it sucks. Now if you act like a baby and cry about it, sure.
