Sooo....no more naming parties and roll calls?
-
I bet the nonner CGOC volunteer got promoted though, while you guys who put munitions on the bad guys continue to get the shaft, sorry to hear man.

At least in my nook of the Air Force, I'd say it's mostly a leadership thing: where dudes are forced to "pick their path": being good in the cockpit, or being good in the office. It's impossible to do both unless you are Chuck Yeager and can slave it out OPR/PowerPoint/excel sheet after another, get in the cockpit once a month and kill it- but that's a rarity. Now, there are those folks that just don't hack it in the cockpit and just don't try. It really comes down to good leadership setting priorities: zero acceptance of less than 100% in the cockpit, allow an OPR or two to make it to the group late, not giving a rat's behind if the sexual assault prevention training monitor doesn't get green dot status slides in every Friday on time.

All this fanfare for just 2 dudes!?!

I'm 09 and am starting to write my PRF today: over under on my CCs reaction when he sees that push line?
-
So for those in the know, will decoupling (love the prop reference btw) school selects be for the 08 board or start with 09?
-
Don't, at least wait until the families have been notified, same especially goes for Facebook.
-
While I am sorry my 08 bros have to wait, if they are indeed getting rid of "school selects" then me says that is a very positive change in terms of promotion and career progression. It may eliminate the unnecessary box checking leading up to majors board (exec, moving jobs every 6-9 months) and otherwise polluting the time of a critical demographic in the squadrons. Instead, hopefully we can spread out the "leadership selection" over several years and maybe find better leaders, possibly "late bloomers." I'm for it!

Was in the C-130H...so many issues there with proficiency and MX rates, in the J now and life is much better.

Mellenial is less of when you were born and more of an attitude; much like (sorry to start to beat a dead horse) shoeclerk is not AFSC specific but an attitude.
-
I agree with everything you said except blaming it on pilots. Shoeclerks and weakling leaders are responsible for ruining the Air Force, and "shoe clerk" is independent of AFSC. Some of the best and worst leaders I've seen have been Pilots. Many of the issues I have with the Air Force is the lack of mission focus, where the CE commander whining that we aren't doing enough Chem gear exercises takes place over the OG advocating for the flying that should take place while copilots and half the IPs can't land the airplane. In my opinion, the pilot corps has been neutered. It's not about fly fight and win anymore. It's about political correctness, queep and BS that has nothing to do with flying. In an organization charged with flying airplanes into combat, who else do you suggest lead the Air Force? I don't think pilots are the issue.

My sarcasm detector may be A2 today, but I hope you're not being serious?
-
This board will be the final litmus test for on the fence late Captain/junior majors. Do they value us enough to try to stop this pilot shortage or are we beyond V1 on this disaster..
-
Was his name George?
-
Very true, our 38 flight CC told us before graduation that the difference between the #2/7 and #6/7 was a few items on a grade sheet on a given single daily ride.
-
Same reason AFPC dropped one fighter per class, couldn't figure out B-course slots and 5 years later we have a fighter pilot shortage : gross incompetence
-
Ain't that the truth, I would have killed for a Viper going through UPT, but there was maybe one fighter per class. Man how times have changed...
-
He's an 08 guy...too late lmao

Hey I know the author! Super smart Air Force Captain
-
OSD and congress have to sign off on it I'm pretty sure. Takes time!
-
Or has it? Where do a good majority of Air Force pilots want to be in a few years? ;)
-
If you're a pilot I wouldn't necessarily freak out. Tech companies invest in ideas all the time - in this case, as the article states, if not necessarily to replace manned commercial airliners but to find "innovative solutions and ideas." It's akin to a C-130 engineer or navigator freaking out in the 1980s when the first J model concept was researched. 30+ years later most of the total force 130 fleet is still flying Hs. Airliners are still flying 1960s airplanes. I don't know many people alive that would get on an automated aircraft, maybe a generation or so from now I especially wouldn't freak out if you are an Air Force pilot. Some of our mission sets are too dynamic to be automated (DACT/OCA/airdrop/low levels/etc.)

Stars In my Eyes Pilot Candidate Set me straight.

Flying military airplane into combat (relative term - I support the real warriors on the ground in the s****) with the people I have has been the most rewarding thing in my life. Whether it was bringing fallen soldiers back home, transporting medical patients or rescuing Philippinos from a hurricane ravaged city, it has been an honor. That being said, active duty and all the non flying duties may wear on you. You've obviously read enough here to know it won't be all gravy and pudding. Know this though: most of the BS won't really hit you until the 3-4 year mark in your 10 year commitment. Plus, you may be in a position to influence your squadron for the better when you're done with UPT-so don't let the negativity here get you down. Keep your head high, build relationships, deploy, travel, it will be fun, I promise. -
They tried man, they tried their hardest to fight this to include the IG, zero help from anyone despite multiple witnesses and character statements. They were also relatively young and despite this tried to use the system to their advantage. To be fair, one of the guys got his reduced to LOR and is doing okay.

Azimuth, wow man. Sorry you had to go through that. WTF. This is one of many reason my peers and I are leaving in droves. I know countless females in the military that will blatantly lie and desecrate a guy's career if she thinks it will improve her situation. At an unnamed overseas airlift base..there was a brand new copilot. Fairly attractive. Flirting with all the other LTs constantly. No big deal right? Well her boyfriend was an IP at another "desired" airlift base......Break break, out of left field she claims she is being "sexually harassed," and claimed two Lt NAVs specifically were sexually harassing her (they weren't.) She even claimed sexual assault after one of them "touched her shoulder." Despite 30+ witnesses in their favor, they weren't given an ounce of daylight to tell their side. Reprimanded/Article 15 without question, grounded for several months and didn't make Captain. Said female made her way over to the "desirable" airlift base to be with her boyfriend. The military justice system is a joke, corrupted by the SJW and political correctness that has infected this once great military the past decade or so.
