Thank you. I do have a job at one of the Big 3 but the benefits for me taking AGR is that I’m in the most senior base, currently 5 from the bottom and can only hold reserve (I’m in year 3 currently). The company is supposed to ramp up hiring and I’m hoping they start growing my base so that I can be a line holder. Also to note, the base I’m in is the only single leg commutable base from where I live. It’d also be nice to get to my 20 so that I can retire and only have 1 full time job because it seems to me that AFRC has become AD light and I put in a lot of time at my squadron. First things first though, I have to see the outcome of my MEB when that time comes.

LOD already approved by AFRC and just applied for 180 days of MEDCON to cover my surgery and rehab time. Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I’m thinking the same thing that they’ll find me fit, especially considering the pilot shortage right now. I would have never thought of a medical retirement if it wasn’t for the ortho doc talking to me about it. That’s why I asked the questions I did because I’m not smart on it.

The hip was not caused in a combat zone but was made worse, which is now the reason for the surgery, while in a combat zone. I would be able to keep both medical retirement and VA pay as long as I have above 50% total VA Disability correct? I know it’s that way with actual retirement but not sure in regards to medical retirement. Anybody smart on this?

You’re correct. My plan was always to apply for AGR this summer/fall. My squadron currently does not have AGR but we are receiving them. You're also right in the fact that I asked about medical retirement vs 20 year military retirement. I like to have knowledge on all my options and be in the know so that I’m not surprised by something unexpected. I think it’s funny that you think you know me and think you’re smart in calling me out just because I asked a question about retirement and stated my opinion/plan about AGR. Keep fighting the good fight... okay.

I’m a 15.5 (points) year O-5 in the Reserves and in year 3 at my airline where I’m a commuter. I’m planning on applying for AGR in my Reserve unit. It gives me an opportunity to fly a new plane, gets me closer to my 20, allows my airline to unf**k their fleet plan and I get to watch my seniority grow. I understand I’ll start losing money over the long run being AGR but in my opinion, the other benefits outweigh the money lost. To each their own...

Per the ortho doc and some obscure medical AFI, I’ll be meeting a MEB and a hip replacement is now 30% med retirement if the med board wants to pursue that route. Chances of the med board pursuing that route are probably slim to none since I’m a pilot but I’m checking all options if and when they’re given to me.

No problems with my airline job. You can be 100% disabled with the VA and be medically retired from the military and still hold a Class 1. The only real disqualifying factors with the FAA deals with your heart and brain (i.e. PTSD, stroke, heart attack, etc...).

All, So I am having hip replacement surgery in March and because of the surgery, I am going to meet a MEB. My question is; which do you think is financially smarter? - 30% medically retire as an O-5 with 15.5 years of service and starting at the age of 41 - Retire at 20 years as an O-5 and not start collecting the retirement until the age of 58 I already have my airline job and it would be nice to only have one job but I want to do what's financially smarter.

All rumor... Per USERRA, you can't be fired for going on mil leave. There is nothing wrong with dropping mil leave while on probation but I agree with nunya, I wouldn't recommend dropping mil leave right after indoc because all that does is highlight you during a time that you don't want to be highlighted...

We are only allowed to wear the berets on AFSOC installations though; Hurlburt and Cannon only until the AF AFI gets updated which could take up to 1 year. It's funny because we are at Duke Field which is Eglin AFB Field 3 and NOT an AFSOC installation. So theoretically we aren't even allowed to wear the berets on our on base!!

If I say yes; would that influence people calling her for help buying a home?!?

Shameless plug: If anybody is in need of a realtor to help find a house, my wife will help. She works for Berkshire Hathaway Realty Services in Niceville and concentrates on Fort Walton Beach, Shalimar, Destin and Niceville.

The 6th and 711th SOS at Duke are already talking with the 81st FS at Moody about AvFID integration. If the A-29 ever happens, then I can see a lot of options for it. Problem though is that I've been told to expect a precision strike type aircraft like the A-29 for almost 3 years to conduct AvFID and still haven't seen the aircraft or JCET/MTT happen yet.

"What would be an ideal base(s) for training with "Big Army" or USMC?" Moody, Pope, Seymour, Shaw, Peterson, DM, McCord, Beale, Hill, Lackland
-
Duke Field - AFSOC AD and ARC Combat Aviation Advisirs (problem though is that Duke belongs to Eglin and getting anything done by Eglin in regards to AFSOC is difficult) Pope AAF - AFSOC, great ranges, ample space, work directly with SF (problem is that it's now an Army base) Moody AFB - already has the 81st FS, great ranges (problem is just general space to possibly put another squadron) Others: DM AFB, Whiteman AFB, Kirtland AFB, Kelly AFB, Fort Smith ANG, Des Moines ANG, Ellington ANG,

Hell yea, bring them to Duke Field or Hurby!! Knowing the AF though, they'll f**k the whole thing up by putting them at Cannon...

Funny how a 15+ year Fighter Pilot is now considered a SNAP... Makes me laugh!
-
Yes and a friend of mine who recently retired from the USAF is there now flying them.
-
Current plan is to keep the C-145's for mobility training and then to obtain some C-208's for ISR/Strike training and possibly a tailwheel aircraft in the future and never go back to rotary wing aircraft.
-
Other than Ellington anybody know of any USAFR/ANG jobs in the Houston area (no San Antonio, Fort Polk, Barksdale, etc...)? Thanks.
