Wrong. If you speak/write like an idiot, you will be judged to be an idiot, especially when the only thing we have to base our opinion on is your spoken/written word.

I agree with you on this point, but you must concede that there is BFMing the rules, and there is blatantly disregarding the rules. BFM to make the mission happen and kill bad guys is usually acceptable, so long as you have three legs to stand on. If you can point to A) the book B) the mission results or C) sound judgement, you are probably going to win. But if you can't identify any sort of legal or results based reason for doing something other than "It sounded fun" you're probably going to get hung out to dry if you haven't already killed yourself in the process. Momentary deviations from a briefed altitude are one thing, but knowingly and willingly deviating is a different animal. You said you wouldn't hook a guy for being 100 +/- 50, and I agree; however, I would imagine you would hook the guy for shacking 50' all the way along?

I'd be really surprised if the Air Force ever put pink bodies at risk inside a UAV, as it would defeat the purpose of them in the first place. As for the airlines-- it MIGHT happen out of a desire to save costs, but I think the liability would be too great. Imagine the fallout from a plane full of people crashing with no live pilot at the controls. The airline would be sued into bankruptcy, if passengers would even buy a ticket in the first place. I don't think the cost savings would justify the increased liability risk, not to mention the feeling of security (real or imagined) that a live pilot gives.

Given the distinct LACK of gunfire either from the ground or the helicopter, one can surmise that this video was not taken during active combat ops. That means that this is most likely showing off, which resulted in a mishap. Like I said, I've only "HEARD" that it was prohibited. I don't have 11-2AH-64v3 (or similar) to verify. And you know as well as I do that tucking in your shirt and flying a prohibited maneuver are two completely different things. One will ALWAYS result in the death of yourself and everyone around you, and the other only has the potential of causing an aircraft mishap.
-
Not sure, but I've heard from various sources that the "return to target" that they were doing is a prohibited maneuver in the AH-64. If so, that means these guys knowingly busted a reg and bent a helicopter as a direct result.

If this is just another symptom, what is critical mass going to look like?

The problem is that the more someone cares about "what to do to get promoted" the less I want to see that person being promoted. They are generally the douches who put themselves in for every award that they can, and will generally stick a knife in your back if they think it will get them moved up someone's strat list.

Anyone looked at the Boneyard on Google Maps lately?
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to ClearedHot's topic in Squadron Bar
I'm probably flying that 707 that was there, or at least most of it. -
This would have been a time I would have said something to you, but in the "help a bro out" sort of way. There's no problem politely pointing out that someone's shirt is on backwards or collar is flipped up. Most likely the wearer is genuinely unaware of the problem and will be appreciative of it being brought to their attention (I know I am). It's when people (like the dickwad E-9 in your story) treat you like you are an idiot who doesn't know how to dress himself that is the problem.

Navy LT sends a .PPT to her new 3-star commander...hilarious and sad
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to Ram's topic in Squadron Bar
I'm on the fence with this one. I've seen enough drooling retards in the military to believe that this could indeed be legit. I've got this funny feeling that she is one of those people who makes it clear exactly what would happen to her boss if she were held to a standard fitting for rank and responsibility (and I'll leave it at that). -
The problem isn't the Air Force, it's the "everyone's a winner" mentality that has permeated American society as a whole, and thus has also infected the military. Keep in mind that the majority of O-4 and below and E-7 and below (myself included) come from the "participation trophy" generation, and the WORST thing you could possibly do to someone is hurt their all-important self esteem. This leads to stupidity like a services squadron with "tip of the spear" as their squadron motto. Far too people are not willing to accept their role as a supporting player, and have been fed the line of bullshit that the world revolves around them for FAR longer than they have been in the military.

Well no shit! DOD says that Half of TA money goes to for-profit schools. This article makes it sound like some sort of scandal that guys are going through joke schools to get a joke masters to check the joke box for promotion. Am I wasting TA at a for profit school? You bet your ass! My "masters" is and has been a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars, but until leadership backs off this ridiculous unwritten rule that you MUST have a masters, I will continue to waste $750 of taxpayer money on each and every class, and I know thousands of bros who will do the same thing. This article makes it sound like it's some sort of scandal that guys are going through online "schools" with limited value. It's not a scandal, it's a reality. It is impossible to pursue a degree at a brick-and-mortar school with the possibility of a short notice deployment or some other tasking taking you out of that class, so flexible options must be sought. Looks like more AF times BS.

While that's good in theory, you forget that guys who would do something about this stupidity will have long since pulled the handle and gotten the hell out of the Air Force before they were high enough in rank to make a real difference at anything other than maybe the SQ level. Like it or not, today's Christmas party planners are tomorrow's AF leaders. They are the types who have dranketh of the blue kool aid and found its current taste appealing. This isn't all non-ops leadership pushing this either. Keep in mind that the VAST majority of AF senior leadership are comprised of rated guys. I know of a few Capts who are already of the mindset that they will do whatever it takes to get ahead, and that includes kool aid drinking, queep pushing and back stabbing. Maybe I should be nice to them because I know they are going places some day, but I don't GAF enough, I'm too busy actually flying and not planning the next SQ golf tournament.

NATO apologises for Afghan Koran 'burning'
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to HoHum's topic in General Discussion
This "hearts and minds" horseshit has got to stop. If we're going to make the decision to go to war in a country (no matter who we are actually fighting) the first answer to complaints such as this should be "tough shit". We will never win a war if we're worried about offending someone.- 171 replies

So long as you say "correcting" you can do whatever the hell you want. It's in the geneva conventions.

That defeats the purpose. The point here isn't so much to take leave, but to maybe just maybe draw some blood in the anti-shoe battle.

In before the inevitible "all those guys got LORs" story.

you and me both, but my point remains (STS).

Are you REQUIRED to wear the gay PT "uniform" when working out at a stateside gym at some places? I never have understood those idiots who wear the PT "uniform" of their own free will. Shoes can't say a damn thing to you when you're wearing whatever you want at the gym. My take is that if you intentionally wear the PT "uniform" when it isn't absolutely required, you are a large, slow, non maneuvering high RCS target, and deserve the hits you take.

Saved. You will see this again, sooner rather than later, and not on this forum. Tell me I won't.
