the whole article stunk of a tone of "rogue pilot gets what's coming to him". It was very poorly written and borderline disrespectful. I understand the guy screwed up and killed himself and three others; but he still has a family that is grieving, and dragging his name through the mud for the sake of making him look bad does nothing but add to their grief.

not sure what's worse... DTS, or PEX. Both are "all our eggs in one electronic basket", both are automated fixes for things that weren't broken, both are prone to long term outage, both are not remotely user friendly, both have steep learning curves, and both seem to be dominated by single-point-of-failure people who ensure job security by being the only person on base who knows the system and has the ability to fix problems, grand permissions, or any other "high level" task (and god help us all if that person is on leave, TDY, or dies in a random vending machine accident).

thing is that unlike Tim, this douchecanoe actually made SOMETHING of himself, the problem is he falsely tried to make something ELSE of himself while he was at it.

if you watch the video you can see the pilot used full LEFT rudder to initiate the 80 degree turn, and then used right rudder to initiate the right turn. As for the "why", probably to roll the jet even faster, as the rudder will increase your roll rate, and then holding the rudder in to skid around the turn to keep it tighter. Unfortunately in this situation the rudder also increased the sweep of the right wing relative to the airflow over the jet, further increasing the stall speed of that wing. The rudder didn't drive them into the ground, but flying the jet uncoordinated like that contributed to the wing stalling and the subsequent crash.

They do have people who are exempt from most of the leadership and "work" and are devoted to nothing but a career of flying-- they're called warrant officers. Yes we're flyers; HOWEVER, we're still officers, and by definition leaders who will from time to be time be tasked to act and work accordingly, whether it sucks or not. So as much as you might want to throw the heisman to the flight commander or exec job, by the rank you choose to wear you are expected to do that job.

that's why you become the master of the bait-and-switch. Throw out the cattle call email about a tail swap or some similar good deal, and when those dudes perpetually come out of the woodwork (indicating their schedule is clear that week) put them on locals. If they try to worm out of them, forward the email traffic to their DO, along with the RAP tracker that shows those dudes WAY behind on RAP. Works every time.

"Good" news today is they have found the crash site, but are still looking for the pilot. Hopefully that means he at least wasn't with the jet when it hit, and is out there somewhere waiting to be found.

Wow, definitely unique as far as I've heard. We're another relatively small unit and just about everyone knows everyone else. Our leadership makes every effort to be crew dogs when they fly. They often alibi mission planing due to other commitments, but when it comes to actually flying they are just another member of the crew to the best of their ability.
