if you're going to ping someone on the operation of a gas impingement system and the need for a BFA, at least be correct when you do it. It's not that there isn't enough gas released by a blank, it's that there isn't anything in the barrel maintaining the pressure to cause the bolt to operate properly. The BFA maintains internal pressure long enough for the action of the weapon to cycle... now, you were saying?

I think it's a matter that the XB360 controller functions as a USB game controller when plugged into a windows PC. i'd be willing to bet bombot software is designed to work with a controller like that, so instead of a $69m proprietary controller to control the bombot, they use an off the shelf one that costs $25

Multicam is a superior pattern, bar none. Personally I think it should be the new STANDARD camouflage pattern, and let the army and marines fight it out for whose cut is better uniform wise, with the winner being the uniform for THE WHOLE DOD. I think the Army cut is probably the best of the two, and maybe incorporate the arm pockets for pens from the ABU. Imagine how much simpler life would be if there was ONE uniform from all branches that was delivered to supply/AAFES/etc with loop side velcro on all the places to put rank, nametapes and shoulder patches. ONE boot for everyone as well. I vote either the current desert tan one, as it looks reasonable in every uniform combination to include tan and green flight suits and we have a LOT in the inventory, or the darker brown suede boot used by the Marines, which looks better, but is not in as high of supply currently. And WRT the Navy disaster that they call a uniform-- gotta love how the ONLY think it blends into is the water, the one place that Navy guys would WANT to be seen if that's where they were.

The new new PT shorts are the best of both worlds-- they're the same softer, non-swishy material as the "running shorts", and they have the reflective bullshit on them so you don't need to add a reflective piece of flair (unless you're at the Deid). Best of all, they have POCKETS, like real side pockets!

Believe it or not, I'd rate the overall shoecon as low right now. Nothing like the heady days of the october revolution last year. i've yet to have anyone say something about my black batman belt, and at this point I don't expect them to. Shoe policies aren't going away, but it seems that they are not being as stringently enforced with the new leadership out here.

I was casual with a tanker squadron. I made up a AMC 0 patch for the lulz.

She's a buttereverything, downright fugly. No bullshit, she asked a guy on my crew if he was "having a case of the mondays" one day. Another guy on my crew last time i was here (yep, she was here then too) made it his personal mission to wear his sunglasses through there without her saying anything. He would hide behind people (he was 6'4, so it wasn't easy), walk backwards, all sorts of tricks. She's like a shoe-ninja! He finally made it, but I had to run blocker and ask her some idiotic question about the stamp on the orders being dark enough or some shit.

Ops normal in the CC/BPC, no food, water, gum, or tobacco in ops town during daylight hours outside of designated smoke pits (for tobacco of course), the chow hall, and SQ buildings. Different rules for downtown, PM me if interested.

I've seen a few dudes wearing black belts around here, I know one of our MX troops has one, and another one of our pilots, though they're the cloth ones. I'm pretty sure someone isn't going to rock the black unless it's a FU to the system, since I've never seen black belts even remotely close to being issued, or even for sale in the BX-- you have to actively seek them out. I've worn the black batman belt exclusively since I put it together, and surprisingly no shoe has said shit to me. Please-o-please-o-please let them do it! I really want to have them show it to me in writing, and when they can't, tell them to get bent.
-
well hell, maybe he should have thought of a less permanent way to quit then!

anyone been in the CC chow hall this morning? All I can say is It looks like a middle school cafeteria. I sat by the door to try to avoid at least some of the paint fumes and EVERYONE coming in was shocked and said something about how bad it looked (including at least one O-6).

ha. ha. ha. i knew the degenerate homosexual thing would come up sooner rather than later.

I cut all but the important part of your post. Most ops dudes really don't get a real taste of "you're the man" leadership until they reach the O-5 level, it's just the nature of the beast in the Air Force, double so in the ops world. Sure you might do a gig as a shop chief or flight commander, but in terms of real leadership, opportunities for junior officers are really limited unless you do something off duty. Most of what dudes learn about leadership comes from PME or other "I read it in a book" type learning. Every time you're doing a job for the first time it's going to be on a trial and error basis; but combat leadership is NOT a good place to learn by trial and error. I'm actually glad I volunteered to work with Civil Air Patrol. I actually learn more about leadership by teaching it to cadets than I ever really learned as a cadet myself back in my CAP cadet days or ROTC days. As a junior captain, my opportunities at work are limited as I described above.

because we've all had shit jobs at some point, and i'm pretty sure we've all dreamed about going out in such style. This dude is a hero to everyone stuck in a dead end fight club job.
-
i think she still falls to 2nd place behind this dude, but "3" on HOPA! Hot damn!
-
another one of my trademarks-- the fedora boonie hat. Still can't believe nobody's said shit about that either. I really need to up my troll game. And if you want a black reflective belt, they at https://www.belts.breflective.com/retroreflective-belts-colors-2in.php, but don't bitch about the price. It's a small price to pay to troll shoe clerks.

heyheyheyhey! that's MY schtick!
-
not to mention a few E-3s to control them. The Saudi Air Force ain't too bad, at least equipment-wise.
-
What I don't get is what he did that was so horribly illegal that it necessitated a "manhunt". AFIK, naughty language over PA isn't a crime, blowing a slide isn't a crime. Stealing beer is a crime, but not "manhunt" worthy. Either way, to this dude, I bet we all wish we could quit a shit job with such style!

Bat Belt v2.0 is done. Pics, as promised.

I think he did alright, he didn't engage with the shoe. I would have done the same thing. You may or may not realize it, but there is ZERO topcover out here. You hurt the feelings of some E3 and he's going to run high enough up his chain of command to find someone who make a lateral move to your commander who will then drop the hammer on you. Disengagement is the safest way to avoid confrontation that you WILL NOT win. I've had a few shoes try to queep me about my lack of socks with my shoes. The conversation goes something like this: Shoe: You need to wear socks Me: Ok (walks away) Same shoe snagged me a few days later Shoe: I told you a few days ago you needed to wear socks, and you said ok. Me: Noted (walks away) it's become painfully clear that we're NOT going to win the war against the shoes. Any disrespectful behavior we correct is met with the response of "well if you had been wearing your XXXXXXX correctly, their correction wouldn't have been needed in the first place. Sorry, but I'm pretty sure we've lost the war here, the shoes have won. Best we can do now is disengage and resist.

My sq/shirt was soliciting ideas for future "no hat/no salute" areas to be written into the latest edition of the AUAB sup to the 36-29chowmyhog. I sent him a wall of text with my idea of The Way It Should Be. Highlights: 1. CC and BPC (basically everything inside that fence) is a "residential area" and in the residential area it's ALL hat optional/no salute. In addition, crocs and closed toed shoes are authorized, and your PT shirt does not need to be tucked in. 2. If you work in a residential area or are receiving service from there (finance, FSS, etc) you need to be up to full uniform standards (tucked, real shoes, etc). 3. Reflective belt policy should mirror the AFCENT AFI, i.e. reflective belt is not required in the AFPTU since the AFPTU is sufficiently reflective per the AFCENT version of the same pub. 4. Reflective belts should only be required in areas that are accessible to vehicles, and would be optional in areas not normally accessible to vehicles (i.e. walking from your trailer to the shitter). I think all those are good, common sense (thus NFW they will be accepted) ways to make this base feel more like home (because for a lot of guys like me it IS home more than anywhere stateside) and cut down on some of the stupidity that abounds this place.

Well done! I've shut down a few engines, but always had more to spare.
-
Shockingly none, at least none that I saw. Everyone was just milling about their business. After investigating the situation, I went and had a few beers. In all seriousness, it's good it happened at 0500 before everything over there was open, there's good chance anyone in the spa at the time would have been severely hurt if not killed, and probably people along that breezeway as well. It was a no BS explosion, the whole side of the building is blown off, and the opposite wall is bowed out.
-
Well, the spa is no more. Ever see that episode of Mythbusters where they overpressured water heaters? Ya, it's kind of like that. 0500 today we hear BOOM (and mind you we were over in the trailers closer to the chow hall than the BX). No smoke on the horizon, so a quick investigation later we see the spa is TOTALLY wrecked.
