  1. sorry for the apparently ambiguous statement, yes I was referring to the fact that you are expected to be clean shaven while in PTs same as if you were in a flight suit, ABU or any other "uniform". I think it's ridiculous, but add that to the list of things around here I think is ridiculous.
  2. Black one isn't in yet, but I'll post it up when it is done. I'm sure some of you have seen me cruising the Deid with this thing on, it's already on its second trip. I'm SHOCKED nobody has said anything to me about it. I also have a pic of my reflective name tag on the Facebook "I hate reflective belts" page. In other late-breaking butthurt news, apparently a command chief emphasis item is now to be sure people are shaving in their PT UNIFORM.
  3. not ashamed to say that one choked me up a bit
  4. not good. Those woods around Elmo are pretty unforgiving.
  5. Well, I just ordered the components for Batman belt v2.0, this one is goign to be in all black. I actually found a BLACK reflective belt (not the black cloth one with silver strip, a full up black all around belt). I'm surprised I've gotten away with my yellow Batman belt for so long, time to up the game a bit.
  6. sounds entertaining.... do tell? also, is "the gap" still in play?
  7. Well, got here today. You can tell it's july, the CC and ops town are BOTH sold out of gold bond. My balls are NOT happy. War is hell. Also, the CC chow hall is closing nightly from 0000-0500 for "renovation", even though they've only been open a year. And they're knocking down a bunch of trailers to replace them with more trailers. Our sq lost two buildings and I'd assume other squadrons are getting compressed as well, so now just about everyone is doubled up, while the BPC still sits largely vacant. Gotta love priorities.
  8. and awaaay we go!
  9. heading back out in a few more days.... what's the latest from clown city?
  10. E-8: expect 2-3 60 day deployments per year, with some TDYs, but not many. Local flights 3-4 times per month.
  11. I don't envy guys on 179s or other longer trips, but 60s have their ups and downs. Usually you're gone so frequently that you get no sense of normalcy at home. Right as you're getting settled back in, you're out the door again for another 60. At least with the longer tours you get a few more months of dwell time than you get with frequent 60s. Not bitchin, not braggin, just sayin.
  12. nothing more sad than having a shoe briefer at right start recognize you and welcome you back.
  13. these days a roof stomp is a good way to get arrested
  14. 60's plus whatever time on either end it takes to get us to and from there on the rotator. I realize that there are plenty of dudes who have it worse than us, but 7 of 12 months at the Deid in any given year still sucks whether they're 2.3 months at a time, or 7 all together.
  15. thrice... in a year
  16. I call fail on this logic. Who says it has to be your immediate boss and immediate boss only? Think of it like this, I go out and get trashed. My buddy's (DD) car won't start and this small town doesn't have a cab service. I am out of options, so I call my flt/cc for help. For whatever reason he doesn't pickup the phone. I'm really in a jam here, so I pull out my SQ issued "if you're out of options" card and call my sq/cc. SHE (hypothetically) answers the phone and comes to pick me up and gives me a ride home. In return, there's a bottle of her beverage of choice waiting on her desk the next work day. Does this give an appearance of an unprofessional relationship? I sure would hope not! ETA: Saw you replied again after I posted that logic is bunk too. Just because someone writes on someone else doesn't preclude them from helping that person out if the ratee is in trouble. What would be improper is if the leader picked up one individual and ignored another under the same circumstances. Taking the article posted at face value (I have no further information on the subject) that doesn't seem to be the case.
  17. Linkage A cut/paste from the article that concerns me: This struck me as pretty bad. How many people have had their boss tell them "if you can't get a ride or your plan falls through, call me and there will be no questions asked"? Granted calling the boss isn't exactly plan A, but the option DOES exist, and I DO know dudes who have called leadership because they were in a bad spot and out of options. The fact that this is being used to bury this guy seems like a dangerous precedent. Granted there is plenty of other stuff that seems to be going on here, but that one particular incident was highlighted. I know some of you guys are in leadership positions, and it would suck for doing something like that for one of your troops and having it bite you in the ass down the road.
  18. sweet shit.... they're up to a solid 3 now? They grow each time I'm there. First one was 1.5, then 2, then 2.5... now they're up to 3??? I understand right start/right finish are requirements that are pushed down from higher levels than the leadership at AUAB, but there is NOTHING that can't be condensed down into a powerpoint slideshow that is accessible from the local intranet, similar to the chaplain's brief from the virtual outprocessing checklist. In order to complete right start, open the slide show, click like a madman, print the last slide, sign it, and give it to your sq shirt. That way the box is checked, the information is covered, and as little of your time as possible is wasted.
  19. good thing he rolled out right before hitting the water... that could have gone MUCH worse.
  20. So there I was at the bra and they had a damned EASTER EGG HUNT, I shit you not. "Grandpa, what did you do i the war" "well Billy, I had an easter egg hunt, but they didn't have any with chocolate in them, only jelly beans. War is hell I tell you!"
  21. If it's the incident I'm thinking of, an enlisted dude tried to shoe an O-4, O-4 told him more or less to FOAD and the E got SQ leadership involved.
  22. Page 100 is MINE!
  23. I'm thinking it'd be perfect for the new Air Force slogan...looking for suggestions.
  24. O, I'm fully aware of that, but don't blow smoke up my ass about the reason that alcohol consumption is limited/banned is due to the host nation. If leadership doesn't want us getting piss drunk (or drinking at all) have the grapes to take responsibility for the command decision and say so, don't try to pin it on the host nation.
  25. The problem with the Deid isn't so much the Deid itself. I came to the realization why the Deid is so bad the last time I was there. Quite simply, the Deid is 100% the product of the "new" Air Force. Older bases have longstanding traditions and ways of doing business that help reduce the flagrant stupidity that occurs at the Deid. The Deid was built by the new generation of risk averse, shoe first ask questions later leaders. It is the puritan wet dream that many current AF leaders wish they could impose on every base and every airman worldwide. They have COMPLETE control and nobody to raise a stink. Stateside bases and even OCONUS bases have retirees and civilian workers who would raise absolute hell at some of the stupidity that goes on at the Deid if it was implemented home station. We can't drink (aside from our three per day) and can't have porn due to sensitivity to "host nation" customs? You know how I know that's BS? Because we can eat all the bacon, ham and sausage we can stuff in our faces at the chow hall. Don't get me started on all the buffoonerous force protection measures they do there that serve no purpose. I won't go into them, but you know what I'm talking about and how pointless 99.69% of it is. The Deid isn't the island of the lord of the flies, rather it's a shoetopia that a large percentage of leaders in the AF wish they could impose on EVERYONE.
