  1. who the hell will be moving into the BPC then? That place is a GHOST TOWN. Nobody is living there right now, and they're going to start doubling up the closets in the CC to free up MORE space in the BPC? YGBFSM.
  2. it's always obvious when someone is making a radio call they are reading out of their "so you want to rearn engrish" book
  3. I'll tell you the same thing I tell my wife when she asks why I make fun of someone for being old or fat... It's going to be my turn some day, so I might as well get my kicks in now while I have the chance, because I don't expect mercy from the smartasses of the world when it's my turn to abused for something stupid I have done. As for why the C-17 community is taking it so bad from seemingly EVERYONE, it probably has to do with the level of automation the C-17 has and a simple thing like putting the gear down got them.
  4. I'm not sure who's running around the Deid sticking up all the TOO LOW, GEAR stickers featuring everyone favorite belly lander, but damn that shit is funny! There's one on the bottom of the share-a-ride sign at the PERSCO bus stop and I about pissed my pants the first time I saw it.
  5. what do you bet these guys get as butthurt about being called "comm guys" as ABMs get about getting called "air traffic control"?
  6. I do have to say that the absolute WORST buffoons on the radio are the guys from SE Asia flying over afghanistan. Their radio strategy seems to be 1. Step on someone, 2. If you got stepped on, talk LOUDER while stepping on someone else, 3. ??? 4. Profit!
  7. that's what i was afraid of. The "no PTs" rule pretty much told me everything I needed to know. Sounds like the most anti-social type of place there could be. I see a bunch of ops guys in one corner wearing bags, and a bunch of shoes in ABUs giving them the stinkeye from across the room. More awkward than a middle school dance. At least at the bra you get some anonymity and don't have to deal with people (well, aside from roving shoes making sure you're wearing a reflective belt in an area physically inaccessible to vehicle traffic)
  8. Anyone been to the O-club at the BPC? looks like a ....fantastic.... place to drink my three drinks, then stagger back to the wrong side of the tracks to go to bed.
  9. I'm a bit late to this game, but here's my two cents regarding "clearance on request" coming from the airplane. The way it was instructed/explained to me is that YOU (the pilot) using that phrase is telling ground, CD, whomever that you have filed a flight plan and are requesting clearance based on that filed flight plan. Maybe I'm wrong, but it makes sense to me. The double tap radio call "kabul kabul", "how copy", etc are all extraneous radio garbage, as are Americans checking in with Salami Lickem. My #1 all time rage inducing pet peeve though is secure compromise. Either pass everything in the clear, or pass everything coded. If you use one aspect of secure comm, then compromise it with either context or further information, it's 10x worse than just passing everything in the clear in the first place, since you just compromised the secure side of communication. THINK about what you are saying, and who can glean what BEFORE you key the mic!
  10. 1. He has not been convicted of any crime in a court of law, civilian OR military, and should not be punished until he either pleads guilty or is convicted. I think it's absolute BULLSHIT how you can literally be kicked OUT of the Air Force before even going to trial, sounds pretty damn unconstitutional to me, but I digress. 2. I've seen DUIs end plenty of careers, but generally the ending of the career is about it. Rarely if ever does a dude lose rank in the process. If the MG has 32 good years, show him the door and give him all he's earned in his 32 years of otherwise honorable service.
  11. A lot of these dudes are spot on. FSO is one of those AFSCs you can take anywhere, and it really depends on what you are interested in. Each base has its pluses and minuses (except Canon, that place just blows). Figure out what kind of climate and population density you want, that should narrow your list, then what kind of outdoor activities you may be interested in (for example, if you like snow skiing, perhaps Patrick shouldn't be near the top of your list, but if you like the beach, Patrick should be #1). People tend to have strong opinions about their individual locations. I wouldn't take people's opinion as my first discriminator for where I'd pick. Once you have a short list, THEN talk to people who are there and figure out what the joint is like.
  12. Ok, just took test 2 today. I passed by the last thin hair on my ass. I will say that the gouge is adequate, but only just barely. Test 2 is definitely much harder than test 1, and is the shoe-iest, queepiest crap you may ever see in your life to date. I would review the gouge VERY carefully and be sure to understand the concepts before taking the test. Simply remembering what the gouge says may not be enough to common-sense a few of the questions. Being that this test is clearly written by shoes for shoes, common sense may not be enough.
  13. what kind of a homo would i be if i was on here if I worked in such a place?
  14. yet another thread becomes nsfw.....
  15. What if the jet noseart says Ditka?
  16. Or just use them for a spitter first, then top them off. The dip turns the whole solution dark brown, and I doubt anyone's going to want to do a sniff check to verify the contents. Q2 at worst. The opportunity to openly flaunt a retarded policy presented itself, and we took it. Next up we're going to get an ATO sortie or two canceled because guys won't have crew rest to get RS/RF done and still be able to fly. There is NOTHING that can't be accomplished by a CBT on the AUAB homepage. I understand that the commander is required to provide that brief to us, but I doubt it has to be a 2.5 hour affair. Make a PPT, have everyone do it, have them print the last slide and turn it into their sq shirt, who reports to the command chief regarding percentage of people who have accomplished RS/RF.
  17. nothing special. a checkride is like any other ride. if you feel you need to "prepare" for it, you're probably not working enough day-to-day to be as good as you should be to be a qualified guy. Kind of like the PT test. If you have to kill yourself the few weeks prior to pass the PT test so you can sit on ass and eat fat pills until it comes time to take the test again, you're not really in shape.
  18. they must have abundant tent space, or are trying to free up trailer space. Seems the new punishment for infractions is moving you to the tent. So far I've heard it's the punishment for alcohol violations (among other punishments for that) and having pee bottles in your room. We'll see how that works.
  19. I fly with a Surefire A2. It's the older model incandescent one, but they now have an LED one that's even brighter. I love the dual color/intensity so I don't blind myself at night when I'm looking for something, but can still do a good walkaround at night with it.
  20. LTC (Army) Allen West running for Florida 22. https://allenwestforcongress.com/
  21. It's all AD unless you can get released from it to go to the reserves or guard. If you want to be a pilot anyway, it's not a bad deal at all, so long as you are at least somewhat of the mind to make the AF a career. By the time you finish your 10 year commitment, you already have ~12 years in service, and are eligible for a pretty big bonus to sign on for another 4-6 years (given that the bonus doesn't go away). After that there are only a few more years left to finish out your 20. Not a bad deal at all.
  22. I assume pred guys incur the same commitment as "real airplane" pilots? Any intel about what year groups are under/overmanned? I'm an 06 guy, and it was like running up Omaha beach just to not get kicked out of ROTC since my year group was in the middle of the last round of "force shaping". Guys were getting the boot for speeding tickets and lifting the wrong cheek to fart. I can't imagine 04-07 year groups being that overmanned seeing how hard the AF tried to thin our herd prior to commissioning.
  23. ok, so here's a 100% no bullshit story of tanker buffoonery from just last night. So we had a dedicated buddy 135 out of here last night. Generally in such situations we'll make contact over our ops freq to ensure both jets are in the green prior to engine start, and again prior to taxi. So we try to call them repeatedly, with no answer. We give up and start and taxi based on our timing. These idiots finally call us back as we're taxiing to tell us they had ALREADY taken off about 20 minutes prior! WTF, but no big deal. They pressed up to Iraq and were holding at the CP, so instead of an enroute RV, it's going to be a PP. These idiots fucked up the PP by the numbers. We're tracking down the IP/CP line on speed, see them on TCAS and all is well... until they started the turn WAAAY late. Instead of rolling out on the line 1-3 miles ahead, they ended up BEHIND us by a good 1-2 miles (after we called overrun about 1/4 way through their turn and slowed to 245 or so from our schedule speed of 310). Not only did they end up behind us, but these clowns overshot the IP/CP line by about 3 miles! We've still got them on TCAS watching them correct to the line, they pass overhead about the same time they cross the line... about 45 degrees off the IP/CP line heading! So they overshot to the OTHER side by about 2-3 miles. Just about as soon as we're behind their 3/9 line the boom clears me astern, as the tanker is rolling to another 45 degree heading correction. YGBFSM! They may not have realized that a 707 can't rejoin like an F-15. As they go sailing through the line AGAIN I make a bid to follow them. I caught up to them displaced about 2 miles from the line and follow them as they continue to S turn to eventually settle on the line. Closing the distance was actually pretty easy since I could lead them the whole time. That came in handy seeing how they still had their speed set to the overrun speed. They didn't realize this till I called them out with a subtle "say airspeed" call from about .5 miles. The last .5 went really quick after they apparently ripped all four to idle to get back on speed. We finally get in contact and the whole time it's like they're trying to shake us with rapid S turns left and right to about 10 degrees of bank... not a huge deal except they were rolling as fast as their autopilot turn knob would turn. We got the gas and hauled ass, glad to be done with those idiots. I hope I never have to AR with them again, that's for sure.
  24. Well, sorry guys... we ruined a way to game the system... guess the wg/cc recognized a few familiar faces a few fridays ago (basically my entire squadron) and now we can't do right start and right finish on the same day. So much for checking the boxes BEFORE picking up ATO sorties.
  25. you mean like ABMs? As for UAV guys getting "Flight Pay", also (correctly) known as Aviation Career Incentive Pay, I've got no beef with it, it's an incentive pay to do a dangerous or otherwise undesirable job. UAVs fit more into the second category for most dudes, at least pilots. If the extra cash gets some extra dudes to volunteer for UAVs so I don't have to do it, I'm ALL FOR IT. I hope they pay them triple.
