People you should NEVER talk to: 1. The media 2. Cops -
I changed it to unlisted. Give it a shot now.

As requested. Nothing remarkable. Not knowing his history one would think it was just another generic graduation speaker.

I hope you step on a Lego.

Just wait.... Coming in 2017: "We must retire the T-6 this year to pay for the new trainer!". " If you talk about the T-6 to congress you're a traitor!". "The T-6 accounts for 25% of all hard landings in the AF, it has to go!".

I either fake it and bail, or don't fake it and get it for realzies.

One week out. Their grad is this coming Friday. Their SRO is a WV native, just to add to the fun. The problem is I might not be able to hide from him this time. My position is such that contact with him may be unavoidable this time.

If this is what they do to a prisoner from a muslim country that was actively negotiating with them, what would they do if they got their hands on an American pilot? Would we launch a ground campaign to get him back? If the answer is no, we need to get out of the IS bombing business until we have the stomach to do what is necessary to defeat them.

The class is aware of this thread and have been reading it to prepare.

I wonder how the Asian carriers' mishap rate/100k hours stacks up against American and European airlines. There have been a lot of Asian mishaps in the news lately, but I know that doesn't tell the whole story.

The Tragedy of the American Military
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to HuggyU2's topic in General Discussion
How so? It makes perfect, cynical sense. Think of all the wailing and gnashing of teeth at ANY level if you try to eliminate jobs (unless they're active duty) within the defense system, even if those jobs are underperforming. Try to do any sort of work in your squadron (wiring, hanging TVs, etc). We have in my squadron over the past few months. A few enterprising guys took it upon themselves to do some of the work and CE (contract) found out. They were PISSED. It's not because we did the work poorly, it's because of Muh Contract. If we demonstrate how worthless they are at their jobs, their jobs risk going away. At bigger levels this gets congressional attention. Why do you think we have so many single unit bases at locations that could support two or three full wings? Muh district! It's a failure of the entire top down gov't system. People pay a shitload of taxes to fund a gov't who then gives them their own money back via the pentagon jobs program. If we didn't have these ridiculous jobs in the first place, taxes could be lower and people would have more money in hand in the first damn place. -
It may be in 11-301 (AFE). This is the same AFI that lays out approved gloves and boots for flying. I just crank the heat in the jet and call it good.

Thread revival since this is the most relevant thread I can find on the topic. https://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/tech/2014/11/19/star-boeing-challenged-kc-schedule/19282927/ I'm not an acquisitions guy, or even a tanker guy, but I am having trouble understanding how this program is having issues. They are using an airplane that has been commercially available for the better part of 30 years, and already sold as a tanker (albeit with some different systems) for quite some time. On top of that, Boeing has been developing what has become the KC-46 for a while through the various contract bids. I fail to see the speedbump, but then again, it's an Air Force acquisition program. I suppose it would be right if there weren't "delays" which are usually just a move to soak more taxpayer money out of the program.

Virgin Galactic reports loss of Spaceship 2
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to Butters's topic in General Discussion
This is akin to the 1908 Wright Flyer crash. Tragic, but just a bump on the road to the future. These guys are/were doing great, pioneering work and a century from now will be remembered much like Orville Wright and Lt Selfridge. Godspeed Virgin and Scaled Composites, keep up the great work. Edited to add well deserved credit to SC. -
Drop Sheet and Assignment Management System
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to av8er's topic in General Discussion
1. You're like the kid sneaking around in mommy's closet in mid December. 2. No, AMS is not something that I would consider reliable info for what you're looking for 3. Your flight commander receiver a spreadsheet with all the bases and their allotted portions. Those portions are final across UPT (i.e. if Vance gets 2 CHS and Columbus gets 1 there are three total which can not change, but can be traded among the bases). The "loop" in this process is usually pretty small until everything is finalized. Basically the only people who are "in" are the Flt/CC, Sq/CC and the guy at AFPC. -

That's the full length version of the 5 part documentary Vice has been running on IS over the past week. It is an absolute must-watch, and will probably change your opinion of IS. They're like nothing we have seen. This is not some disorganized band of shitheads. I don't think the word "terrorist" applies to them anymore. They are a rogue state at this point. A few 500lb bombs and some MREs will do nothing to even slow them down. We're going to have to decide if we want to fully engage with them (total war) or stay out of it. Half measures will do nothing.

FY 15 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
Napoleon_Tanerite replied to C-21.Pilot's topic in General Discussion
Complete hearsay and probably bullshit, but has anyone heard that there were so many VSP apps at Tinker that the IG was getting involved regarding potential morale issues? -

1. So aside from low observable and data linking, what improvement over the aircraft it's replacing does the F-35 bring to the table? It's slower and less maneuverable than the F-16 and F-18, so we lose ground on the BFM front. And last I heard it can't pass a drop of gas, so cutting the KC-10 to pay for it is self explanatory. It is faster and far less survivable than the A-10, so we lose ground on the CAS front, and costs several multiples more than any of those aircraft. If you thing we as taxpayers or a nation are getting a good deal, I want what YOU'RE smoking. I get that the F-16, F-18, and A-10 are certainly due for recapitalization, but the only capability the F-35 has proven superior at thus far is funneling a LOT of money into Lockheed's coffers. 2. Maybe I'm bitter due to my individual circumstance, but VSP this round was another nightmare of buffoonery. I won't get into personal details because they're irrelevant for this thread (PM me if interested) but suffice to say, AFPC is still the same 'ole AFPC. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing, the left hand has no idea what it's supposed to be doing, and the right hand is in charge of ensuring the left hand is doing its job. 3. So at what threshold does a problem become endemic? Allegations (nothing more at this point, keep in mind) of toxicity and/or incompetence go all the way to the top at AMC, at least to the NAF level at PACAF, at least the wing in AETC, and from the crew to at least the NAF level in GSC. If I were a betting man I would say it's simply a matter of time before ACC and USAFE ident on this one too (Tinker is always a good place to bet on). I get that these problems weren't caused by the current CSAF, but he's the guy checking the mailbox these days, and he has been oddly silent on these issues. I'm all for e'sprit de corps, but it's a sugar high at best when there are real problems that seem to be going nowhere fast. I also agree that the current CSAF is the best we've had lately, but after the last one I'm sure a shaved chimpanzee would be just about as popular. And if you think I'm just sport-bitching, think about this-- the ethics thing (at least) is on congress's radar. The CSAF has already stated his case on the issue and it ran counter to the perceptions held by many, to include members of congress. The last time a CSAF gave congress the impression he didn't know what he was doing, we ended up with Skeletor. So continue to enjoy your hope-and-change if you want, but storm clouds may very well be brewing. -

So we have a CSAF who ride into office on a wave of inspiring speeches and "hope and change". We're probably about halfway through his tenure, and what do we have so far? 1. Morale shirts/patches are back! Rejoice! 2. ...... 3. Profit? On the negative side: 1. The F-35 procurement debacle (yes, I know this is inhireted, but the F-35 remains a sacred cow that the AF seems committed to pay ANY price to get, including proven legacy airframes like the A-10, KC-10 and others, which leads to... 2. The FY14/FY15 force management shennanigans. The only thing that is preventing a complete repeat of 2011 is the fact that they had an OVERWHELMING number of volunteers, thus negating the need for a RIF (so far). But it has been once again rife with missed deadlines, contradicting guidance from AFPC, buffoonery approvals and denials, and a healthy does of bait-and-switch. 3. Demonstrated toxic, failing leadership at multiple wings spanning at least four MAJCOMs. In the digital age this seeks to undermine the entire credibility of the service, yet the CSAF states before congress we have "no ethics problem" But we have morale shirts, mustache contests, and a BBQ cookoff!
