Should make the next congressional debate about Pakistani financial aid more interesting, eh? Rock on SEALS!!

My thinly veiled sarcasm was, perhaps, too thinly veiled.

D. Documentation is important.

I didnt say AFRC was immune to this buffoonery (please reread the thread). I said it was impossible for someone to rise up through the ranks from enlisted to WG/CC at one base---as was stated earlier. Nepotism can be found in all branches, however, due to deeply imbedded traditions and its inherent structure, it can be a SERIOUS hurdle in the ANG.
-
Not possible in AFRC. Like active duty, we get new DOs, OG/CCs, and WG/CCs every 2-4 yrs. And just like active duty, sometimes they are shit-hot leaders...sometimes not so much.

Then Col Welsh was my OG at Moody in the mid '90s. Being a Herk guy at a composite wing, for my first year and a half there--he was just another one of "those guys". The usual stuff, OG CC calls and the like, but dont think I had ever met him. After the Cessna shoot down off Cuba early in 96, and our subsequent wing involvement, I was plucked out of the squadron one afternoon to accompany our OG/CC to Langley to discuss some "misconnects" with the C-130 DOOM guys. After a cobbled together ejection seat training session (15 min), I was escorted to the flight line and, for the first time, met Col Welsh. We chatted for about 10 min, jumped into his jet, and started two of the coolest days (in my 21 years) of wearing a bag. You might think that for a Herk guy, the coolest thing about this trip was the flight up and flight back in the F-16. It was not. And it was not the time with him in these meetings where I saw him basically dismantle 2 O-5s and crush an O-5 (it was pretty cool tho--I was a captain at the time) It was the time I spent drinking beer with him at the club that evening. Great guy, great stories. It was basically two AF pilots drinking some beers talking about life on the otherside of our respective fences. For the flight home, after switching to departure and leveling at 3,000 feet, departure says something to the effect... "Moody three, cleared unrestricted climb to FL310, please expedite through 12,000 ft" I remember hearing him laugh and then telling me "I hate it when they do that". I dont think I passed out, but I wouldnt bet a beer on it... Congrats to Gen Welsh. You are the man.

ACLU...defending your child's access to internet porn in public libraries. ACLU...defending a convicted pedophile's right to live next to you without you knowing their history. ACLU...providing legal counsel to NAMBLA. ACLU...suing to give 6th Amendment rights to combatants captured on the battlefield. Just sayin...

Your boss is a piece of s#&*. Top cover from dripdouches like the one in your story is easy and painless if handled right. Hopefully your next boss is better.

Impossible. THe NCO is writing 'Airman of the Quarter" awards for the three airmen.
-
There are usually two Hajis in there. I guess the three airmen lost one.

It seemed odd to me when AMC/A3V tasked OGV shops throughout AMC asking for "new MQF taxi questions" to be submitted for beefing up the MQF. As if one guy sitting in his cubicle at Scott couldnt come up with a few new questions, no. We have to tap every shop in the field to write them for us. Sigh.

Not true. It is, however, an incredibly complicated process to be authorized a business or first class ticket. Rules for such instances are found on the Defense Travel Management Office website. Poor form by Col Douchebag. Ethically speaking, he is skating on very thin ice.

I flew active for 10 years and loved every minute. I just clipped 10 years in the ARC and have loved every minute as well--both as a bum and full timer. Both have advantages/disadvantages over the other. In the end, I still drive to work every morning thinking 'I cant believe they pay me to to do this shit.' For that, I am very lucky.

Checkride/mission superstitions or rituals?
Chapter29 replied to brickhistory's topic in Squadron Bar
Day prior prep: Haircut. Shine boots. Day of: Be early. Fly ass off. When I dont know an answer, give one like I'd bet the house on it. -
4.1.13. Footwear: conservative (plain, no bright/loud colors or excessive ornamentation) athletic shoes are the primary footwear. Crocs, sandals, water shoes are not considered athletic shoes for purposes of this instruction. Shower shoes, flip-flops, sandals, Crocs are only authorized for wear to and from the “Cadillac’s” (toilets/showers), and within the confined area of the CC Outdoor and BPC Indoor Pools. Temporary stops are not authorized (i.e. quick stops to the DFACs, laundry, smoking pits, Memorial Plaza, Desert Eagle Lounge or BX area). PM your .mil and I'll email the supplement to you.

Reading these Deid threads prior to arriving in January had me walking around with my fangs out ready to rip the first asswipe crossing my "repsectful" line. With the temps on the rise, the first signs about sweaty PT gear being forbidden in the chow halls just went up the other day. Overall, uniform regulation zealots are few and far between (in fact I havent seen one). Not bad at all.

I think they actually felt bad telling us so close to graduation. The guys banked in my class could go to another job (they could even work their own job!), go to the guard or reserve, or even SEPARATE from the AF after graduation. Talk about money down the drain. No one walked away, but pretty amazing. Now that you mention it, I do remember it being three year, not one.
-
It was common--not sure how long the program continued. I was one in one of the first Laughlin classes that banked guys. I remember when the O-6 from personnel walked into our flight room to brief us--right after most of us had passed our T-38 form check. He said half of us would not have a plane to climb into when we graduated. 8 of our 16 got banked. Of those banked, most went and interviewed with Gaurd/Reserve units and were picked up. The rest waited the year and got back into flying.

I'm in a "wet-billet" about as far as you can be from the BRA. I was given an antenna from someone in the outgoing unit. Works great from my room. During peak interent usage times (shift change and early evenings) it's slow going. Other than that, its a good signal. Skyping and streaming works well. Any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Read Descent into Chaos and you will understand why this place is such a shithole.

I live in PA and have followed Murtha closely for many years. A distinguished military veteran grew into one of the most corrupt members of Congress. Sad.
-
No problem. Your feelings concerning OPR bullet scammers is understandable, no doubt they exist. I think they are in the minority. IMHO, most of us are just trying our best in less-than-desireable conditions.

Wrong, read the title. The quote was referring to the 746 EAS. This has nothing to do with the great work being done by Herks based downrange.
