Well the USAF bought C-130J's, never understood why they never asked Boeing to build a KC-135U new builds. Still have 57 models flying out there. Make it fly by wire, better hydraulic system, copilot has antiskid, modern fuselage design since the older ones were all built by hand. I.E. a 135 took off with cargo not latched, canned one out of AMARC and it wasn't close. Spent many nights trying multiple times to try to get the jet to pressurize, ended up repairing the original door and reinstalled it.

Worked 7 fires last year doing mainly mitigation with Hot Shot and Hand crews as a contractor. We fight fires backwards, instead of spending money doing year-round mitigation and controlled burns we do them after the fact after a massive fire. As a retired E-7 and now retired WG-11, contractor I've seen many useless POS's who would just show so they don't get fired. From what I have experienced the only way a federal employee can get fired is not showing up to work while having zero balance or -neg balance in leave or sick time. Knew one guy who was so far in the hole when he was at work, the hours went to paying back the government for time owed. On the other side of the equation, I worked with a man who had over a year of sick time in the bank but never used them. He retired but didn't live to enjoy the time off. I bet most of you met him while filing a flight plan at KTIK Base ops during your UPT days.

Back in the day when I was a Crew Chief on a C-137B at Andrews we saluted and held it when the VP Bush and Quayle as they stepped off Marine 2 and walked up the staircase into the jet. One crew Chief didn't, he was on headset for engine start, 3 and 4 were already running when the VP was walking from the helicopter. As soon as he walked up the steps, we started one and when the staircase backed up two was started. As soon as the VP was in his seat buckled in with his favorite beverage the jet was already taxiing.

I retired in 03 with 20%, more or less the VA telling me to go away.
