  1. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/161837-analyst-military-bands-to-cost-dod-50b-in-50-years There are more guys in military bands than the foreign service.
  2. Actually if you listen to Icelandics speak that is to believed what the Vikings actual language and their direct decendents, Norwegians can't understand them or translate Icelandic for you. But the Norwegians sure gave the Wehrmacht fits.
  3. I remember all those movies to scare the crap out of the new Airmen that it took almost by gunpoint to make them service LOX on the acft my self included. After a while you were using it to cool down a 6 pack in the drain pain and throwing bugs and frogs into the pan just to see them shatter. I have a few burns on wrists and parts of my neck from splashes from it. I still service LOX 30 years later from the first time I did for my present contract job. You learn to always respect it but I don't fear it anymore. There are parts of the LOX system I can't stand, it is almost impossible to service in rainy wet weather because everything freezes up, every LOX convertor is different on how it services per tail no. not MDS. Had to reseat a few build up and vent valves with a screw driver to seat it and keep from venting so it will build pressure. Plus don't ever ever deplete a system down to zero pressure on the system, it requires a hot purge of the entire system to evaporate any moisture in the system. The only thing that sticks out to me about the OBOGS is what caused that Air Florida crash in the Everglades back in the 80's.
  4. Had to replace a few booms after they were used as a tow strap to get a sick fighter home, I remember the voice of a very concerned A-6 guy we dragged into Lajes when his left wing tank had a structural failure and pouring out gas in the middle of the Atlantic. Had a bud drag a F-4 into Keflavik with a dead engine in a February, bailing in the North Atlantic in February is suicide even with a poopy suit on.
  5. F-15E's, F-18E,F,G also.
  6. Probably would have saved a million a jet by just installing a old fashioned 5 liter LOX convertor.
  7. I thought that the slowest tanker a A-10 could catch up with is the right tanker.
  8. I will celebrate when I no longer have to take off my shoes and get groped when I go to the airport. He was just one guy in a worldwide network, this ain't over.
  9. That's a good question, who's required to carry helmets?
  10. As with the Buff's 59th anniversary I find it amazing how much aviation changed in 10 years between the Doolittle raid and the B-52's first flight.
  11. I'm just surprised they found enough qualified mx females to do this pr stunt. If anything went wrong did they have a all female CSAR on standby?
  12. Shocked to see a Caravan on its back.
  13. I always loved how they indexed those Salty Nation exercises, your base gets killed by a nuke and the inspector is asking why you are not donning your gas mask after the impact was less than a 100 yards from your position. You or your buddys probably strafed me a couple of times at EGUN between 84 to 86 along with the odd F-111.
  14. Wow a A-10 that actually had to slow down to AR or a Tanker perfectly suited to AR A-10's. Remember a few A-10 drags across the pond in a KC-135A on how much airspeed we had to bleed to AR hogs then visa versa when I crewed KC-135Q's on how much slower the SR-71 had to go when we were in a shallow dive to pick up airspeed. Great picture!
  15. Didn't the Marines get the call to grab Scott O'Grady out of Serbia during Op Allied Force too?
  16. Looking at the footage it appears to be this tail no. https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/McDonnell-Douglas-F-15E/1449488/L/ I remember this being our nightmare scenario during ONW and OSW, I don't think we ever lost a jet during that time but we took the CSAR training day pretty seriously. I hope this is not a bad omen.
  17. Now thats a FOD hazard from hell, I wonder if underneath the runway is compromised.
  18. Facebooking with friends at Yokota , they are restricted to base and they have taken commercial diverts due to a airport up north disabled. He told me everybody is safe.
  19. OK, I'm pissed off, our guys got shot down like sheep without the ability to defend themselves, at least soldiers outside the wire have the means to fight back. It's like that for the majority for the USAF, if the .1% ever happens in the AOR and a base gets infiltrated alot of Airmen go their death unable untrained and unarmed. But hot damn they look good in their PT gear and reflective belt with the right socks. Air Power, Fit to fight, hooah, what a bunch of bullshit. Stop with the pretending of believing our training will get us through the unthinkable at least us non trigger pullers with absolutley no type of training to defend ourselves becides gas gas gas don your mask and shoot a few rounds before a deployment. Until we are trained to at least the standard of Security Forces or basic infantry why do we continue to carry a weapon in the AOR just to be given to the armory and not seen until DEROS. How does a service at war with leadership with a peacetime attitude fix this? Away from the AOR we are in more danger than surrounded by wire. Airmen are now a soft target in the DOD. RANT OFF
  20. The story sez these guys were from Lakenheath going down range, why weren't they going from EGUN? Have they shut down the AMC terminal there? Another question, why are we even doing troop movements out of commercial airports, I can see a small group but a bus load?

  22. I wonder what happens to all the retired flag officers that are on the EADS NA payroll?
  23. Well lets just say the last Crew Chief/Pilot/Boomer of the last flying KC-135R has not been born yet.
  24. If its holds up to the GAO we just saved a bunch on milcon costs, the 767 can use the same facilities as the 135. The A330 with a 197ft wingspan would have required all new construction for mx operations and new concrete to make room for them on present parking ramps.
