  1. No...and i have no idea why anyone would!! :)
  2. Dude, its gotta be a good site, when in my limited planning in my limited UPT time, I have been to "baseops.net" to plan more than any other site! Weather, notams, its all right here! I think you could triple the membership fee and still get the same number of hits!! Kinz
  3. Ya thats pretty funny stuff. For the record, Neville's threat that 400 Congress members receive his magazine is hilarious. I worked on the hill in a previous life, and I can tell you that stuff gets thrown out and never makes it into their hands. So dont use that line! [ 09. 4. Ya its his fault he got shot down. He fired the missle. Then allowed himself to get hit. Give him some credit. He survived a shoot down, and never played himself up to be a hero.
  5. Vance: We have off Friday and monday...there was rumor thursday was a no fly day, but I think they axed that because we are all behind.
  6. Hey, here at vance, when we were in academics we were required to go to the gym, as a class for like an hour. It was scheduled in. Once we hit the flightline, its the honor system. Rumblefish was right, UPT is not basic training. You are an officer, you can run, jump or climb. Its your life. Now, are you gonna have tons of time? NOPE. But I keep up on my workign out to an extent, but not like i did before!
  7. ya but the first few times in the clouds in UPT are during contact...and usually the IP just lets you try to fly it, but doesnt hold you responsible if you jack it up (In the clouds only!) So by instruments, you already would have spent a bit of time in the clouds. But otherwise, sneedro, good point. Welcome to Vance...!
  8. Flyinjunky is right. You just dont necessarily understand the "military way" until you get out here. Its alot different, but its cool. That said, I have noticed in my class, those with instrument time are pretty even with those of us that didnt have any at all. So again, if you have the time already, great, if you dont, it sure isnt worth the money... Adam
  9. Alright, lots of discussion has been put up about whether to get an instrument rating before going to UPT. Now granted I am only about 2 1/2 months into Tweets, but i have formed an opinion on this, and would now like to take this opportunity to share it! First off, I think if you come to UPT with an instrument rating, it will obviously be easier for you to grasp instrument flying, and control of the AC during "the weather." So, if you already have a rating, and come to UPT, well...awesome. However...if you are thinking of dropping $5000 on an instrument rating before getting here, dont do it. Yes, instruments are difficult to an extent, and yes you do have to put some mental sweat into learning them, but you learn them, learn them well, and best of all, you get PAID to learn them. If you are on the Tweet, the instruments are so old that even if you have your rating, you practically have to learn them all again. Anyway, just my .02. This from a guy that considered getting some instrument time before UPT, and was glad i didnt, Adam
  10. At Vance, we get plenty of time off on the holidays. For 4 July, we get fri, and mon off (sts), and thursday is a half day. For memorial day, we got a half day friday, and monday off (again sts). Really, UPT is a fun job...busy, but if you keep a good attitude you wont mind going to work everyday.
  11. I almost studied alot before UPT, and I am in week 4 here, academics, and have already learned everything I studied for months before;) Dont learn the boldface on the Gouge websites too, they just changed it all! Adam
  12. Dude, I wouldnt worry too much about what your degree is in. If you feel called to get a degree in Theology, it will all work out! Maybe you are gonna be a preacher instead of a preacher of military justice;-_)
  13. I will tell you what I am doing, and what I have heard. I start upt in 1 month, and I am just reading and understanding approach charts, and getting instrument knowledge down, but not getting my rating. That way I am not caught way off guard, but I am also 7000 dollars richer. Adam
  14. Here's what I think: Basically, dont worry about it. Now before you get excited, read on: Do not feel like you necessarly have to drasticaly change your diet. Now those with a FC1 in week, this may not apply. However, those who long term want to drop it, all you have to do is make subtle changes. Like, instead of burgers, eat chicken. (side note: chicken and turkey are better for you protein wise than red meat). Cut out fries. Is ranch dressing good for you? NO, but if there is not a low fat substitute then it beats gettng a potato. CUT OUT GREASE...again not completely just dont eat that frozen pizza...eat more greens, exercise. Make small changes, and this is important: read teh nutrition label. You would be shocked at how bad for you some stuff is, and how good for you other stuff is. On the label, there is a part that says "cholesterol" under the RDA. Dont let that fool you...sugars, and fats, and sodium, all contribute. Remember, some cholesterol, fats, starches, sugar, is necessary. Just moderate, and whenever possible substitute with better stuff. Dont avoid that fun barbecue, but maybe try to eat healthier the next day. Finally CUT OUT SWEETS, and for God's sake, DRINK WATER INSTEAD OF SODA. Get over the fact that food needs to taste great, and that will help alot. You donthave to do all of these, just some, and it will make a big difference. 15. Adding to the diet part...to lower cholestrol EAT OATMEAL EVERY MORNING, EXERCISE, and cut out Red Meat. I did that, and now substitute turkey and Chicken. The occasional red meat is ok, just cut it way back. Of course most obviously, cut out fried foods, and cut out starched like french fries. For lunch try maybe a salad. I know it sucks but once you start eating better like that, you will feel better too. Also try GOOD cholesterol foods...like olive oil, and fish. Just like said previously, the ratio is what is important. GOOD LUCK That is my .02.
