Maybe this is just me, has anyone else noticed that a few years ago, you crossed a street and the street signals be damned? I.e., getting ready to cross a street in DC with no traffic coming but the "Dont walk" sign was on. Used to be, you would just cross since no traffic is coming. I did that, and the group I was with looked at me like I just blew a toll booth. Anyone else notice this or am i just too sensitive?

Dude really? There is no real focus on the mission anymore....I can promise you that. I have spent time in Al Udeid, and in another unnamed place that would make you cry at how awesome it was (No reflective belts, no hats, no saluting, etc) just guys doing their jobs. Allowing the REMF's to grab a tray out of your hand (by the way, THAT is the issue...not the lack of a T-bone) only emboldens them to cause the same problems down the road on more important things...and it happens.

Done, twice, each for 3 day stints (rotating into Iraq.) Never once stopped and asked for anything...

Gates is a political survivor. So in ten years when Iran does have long range missiles....oh forget it thats a whole TEN YEARS away. North Korea? Pakistan? Breakaway soviet republic? The list goes on. But the "Chosen one" said it, so it is so.

You are the one always overreacting, from what I have noticed- not just this post. But you try to shift the "overreacting blame" by doing the old "gee, quit overreacting" thing. By the way, this system in Europe is for long range missiles, and completely different launching and delivery process than the short and medium range defense. As soon as someone develops the long range missiles, we are SOL. This would also defend against Russian missiles, etc. At the rate our relationship with them is going in the toilet, might be something we wish we had in about 10 years. But we are incapable of thinking long term...i.e. why are we STILL not drilling offshore?
-
So even after the "Throw your Eastern European Allies Under the Bus Day" (TEEAUBD) you still defend this guy? Cool...take real bravery

Power corrupts....what a bag of dick.

I was in Iraq april and may, when the dust storms are seriously intense and constant...I got a sinus infection from the dust. I never had an "allergy" problem there (i do get allergies) but the sinus infection was pure evil. Took a month to kick. If you know what a netti pot is, use one.

Checkride/mission superstitions or rituals?
Stiffler replied to brickhistory's topic in Squadron Bar
I usually like to volunteer at the local food pantry the day before, wake up the day of the checkride and do a little yoga and have a chai tea...I also dont believe in "sex" but instead spend about 2 hours listening to my girlfriend and "sharing our feelings." Then I get in my PT Cruiser, drive to the squadron, go into the bathroom and have a good cry.... Then Im ready to go. -
Id say we ban Mappleby if he doesnt post the link...its like dropping a steak on the floor in front of your dog then picking it up, and just looking at him. He would want to kill you.

This is a great point. Moderators, did this discussion REALLY deserve to be merged into the incentive pay thread, when this is about a douchebag and his paper, and not about the future of the pilot bonus, per se? Two topics can be related and not have to be merged. Just a thought...
-
That wasnt the point...the point was made that blaring music loudly will prevent our future enemies from following the conventions....my point was that they never have. If anyone really believes this is torture...this is insane.
-
Good point, because our enemies all usually follow the geneva conventions.

Bergman, I fully agree with your assessment. In my tanker days, that was the absolute most frustrating part of traveling...finance or other support groups telling you what it is like on the road...and when you tell them otherwise then they assume you are definitely trying to game the system. No, I honestly am not gaming the system...but instead of focusing your ire on people, focus it on the flawed process. Of course most people have never deployed with us, so they have zero idea. "but the regs say...."

Here is another thing i just thought of (again, as a guard dude. I have had a few drinks) I think someone would be more scared of correcting an E-7, than they would of correcting an 0-3. Here is my theory. We have raised folks in this "everyone is equal" Air Force. Enlisted folks, who feel slighted and upset if an officer acts like an officer (i.e. begrudgingly saluting, grumbling about saying sir, etc) know that they will be backed up if they correct a uniform violation. SO, in order to "put an officer in his place" they go around aggressively enforcing uniform issues. However, instead of pointing out problems, now they have enforced problems. So instead of doing an officer a "solid" by pointing out a problem, they get on a high horse and act like a superior ranked officer and feel that since it was a uniform related "offense" they can do whatever they want and will be backed. And as officers, we (myself included) are too pussy to fight back. Ive had a few beers. IMHO
-
Ya i suppose the condescension thing could be there. Guess I just havent noticed. Im one of those "lets just do our job" guys, of course Im in the Guard where no one uses "sir" anyway, so maybe its a different culture.
-
Boom, just curious why about 69% of your posts are either dissing officers (usually junior ones), talking about how NOT to show respect as an enlisted guy, or showing some sort of chip on the shoulder about being enlisted? Just curious man.

Bergman, Great story! I was at Manas a few years ago, hands in pockets in the SNOW, and had someone yell at me from across base... "Hands out of pockets! Hands out of pockets..." repeatedly. I didnt do it. He got progressively louder! I kept walking. I should have had him get a trashbag....
