  1. WELL! nearly 6 months later I have finally enlisted and gotten dates for Vance starting OTS on 10 Jan.....anyone else headed that way? I do not have a document, just the word from the Chief pilot. I'd be nice if anyone on here had a document they were willing to pass around just to see it in black and white....
  2. I'm waiting on a waiver and have gotten no word from anyone other than "its going to take a while" from my recruiter. I was told that one hour after being notified by my chief pilot that I was selected by the board. My chief said that they were not even sure who had the authority to grant the waiver and and the legal dpt was starting at the SECDEF and working their way down. Its been two weeks, and have still not heard anything....PM me for more details or if you think you might be able to shed any light on this situation.
  3. Does anyone else have a DD 785 waiver? all i hear is "it's going to be a while" from my recruiter. I swear even after getting picked up by the board i'm still not out of the woods!
  4. Man, this place has gotten quiet again! I've been trying to track down a post I thought I saw with all the OTS dates. I think I remember it being something like jul 26th, sept 13th....and I think nov 16?... I wonder if there are any possibilities of waiting thru the first of the year. Didn't you have your hands on a list that you PMed out to people of board results last time??? Was wondering about some other ppl/unit hires...
  5. Has anyone gotten dates yet?
  6. Just got the word! 86 PCSM.
  7. Has anyone heard anything about a 1 year probation from the board if you are not selected?
  8. I thought I heard at one point that you had to be sponsored by a unit to meet the board. Can anyone offer insight?
  9. Where is everyone if there were 70 apps, that's abnormally high, with less slots.
  10. Heard there were 70 apps, 40 slots...
  11. Navi, yeah man I hear that. On that note, I just got was informed that I MIGHT be in need of a waiver. It's great finding that out a week after the deadline for packets being submitted. I have no words...
  12. hmmm......not being nitpicky, but maybe "IF" instead of "after" would be better suited for that statement. I also think its more of a 5 week time frame from the 22nd. Some will have dates as soon as they're notified, then some will get dates shortly thereafter. And apparently even after those dates are initially cut they are still subject to change. That info is just based on what i observed from the last board.
  13. Is there any more info from that email that is worth sharing?
  14. hahahaha welp, I'm a CFI. I wouldn't necessarily call it a good if you consider income. My friends from college all have office/desk jobs but they get to go out and blow $100+ at the bars on the weekend. I do love flying on a daily basis. I'm a lucky CFI to even have a steady job so its just based on what you want. I could probably make more money waiting tables busting my ass and working 50 hours a week but flying every day makes what i'm doing for the time being OK as long as this AF thing pans out! That being said, hopefully the waiting game will be over for me soon. I have a business management degree from a decent Liberal Arts school. I was hired by a unit this past June, now i'm waiting on the board. I would finish your IR, if you have already started and just brown nose with as many people as possible to build time. i guarantee you that if you make friends at a rural airport and meet someone with a cessna 150, you could probably work out a deal to build time in their plane...
  15. My FC1 came slower than christmas as i recall. I got hired by my unit in may. FINALLY got dates around AUG and went on 27 sept.
  16. If that new medical requirement is correct, wouldnt that siginificantly reduce the # of people who can meet the board?
  17. Interesting... Well if anyone has info on how long the FC1 physicals are actually good for, let me know. Also, does anyone have any info on what the "flavor" of the next board is going to be? - A couple of sources have told me that this past board was all Generals. Will that happen again next go around? - Weather fair or not, a line on AFOQT scores was drawn and AFOQT scores pulled a lot of weight... I'm confused as hell about what to do and how to prepare for the board. Just ordered the ARCO 7/e book to study and retake the AFOQT, but I'm not even convinced that is the best decision at that point. -One question I have about that is how much will my PCSM go up if my AFOQT Pilot score goes up? Already maxed out the flight hours...
  18. Just a random question for someone out there. If my FC1 was done at brooks on 27 SEP 2010, How long is it good for? I'm assuming it should still be good for the June board. Also, I just turned 27 yesterday. Will I be considered age critical on this board now? I'll be 27 and 1/2....
  19. i have just sent off my packet to my hometown Air National Guard unit. i currently have my packet in with with a reserve guy who sends it all over to other units with a generalized cover letter and different paper work..... after finding out that my home town unit is hiring (C130 airlift), i have whipped up a very personalized cover letter, filled out forms SF 93, SF 86, AF 24....etc to the best of my ability. having done 100% of this on my own i just dont have a good feeling about it even though i went over all of it about 20 times and had many different people proof read everything. even called the MSgt in charge of packets to ask questions, which i sure i sounded like a huge bother..... i did not send a a picture in with the packet, but i did call the chief pilot and schedule a visit before i come out and interview. hopefully that will also be a chance to correct anything that may be wrong with my packet. The chief was surprisingly willing to take time and shoot the breeze with me, when my whole mentality in my head was just schedule the thing and get going cuz this guy is busy and probably gets calls like this from random "interested potential pilots" all the time. we actually talked about flying and stuff once he found out i have about 1000 hours and since i`m from the area. now on to the point. i need to know the best way to go about visiting...etc. i have read all of the above and a few things on other forums. i also would love to know what kinda interview curve balls are thrown. i have been successful thru one airline interview already and know what that is like, but have no idea if there are any nuances to an ANG interview.... if anyone has any pointers on how to make the best impression while visiting a C-130 unit and any Interview pointers, that would be great. 86 PCSM 80 AFOQT around 58 on AA NAV VERBAL..... be honest about how good/bad those scores are too.
