commencing IP tracking sequence...JK. I agree with you, it is always the 1% of people that cause heartache for the rest of us. People seem to forget they are in another country. Learn their customs and make some friends!

Currently they are 120% manned (what my Sq/CC said). My friend who is over there now said that Copilots are not flying.

Pretty much the same in the MAF world. I was no joke deploying in 2 days and I had to finish my AFCENT checklist. When I went to the agency to get a section signed off they were closed for training. At Salem last year we put together a "be aircrew for a day" event and after 10 minutes in the 120+ degree heat they were ready to go back to their air conditioned offices. We reminded them that our MX bros spend 12+ hours turning wrenches in the heat. We also asked what they thought the mission of the C-130s were and most replied: deliver the mail and food. I guess they failed to realize that there was still a war going on just north of them. I had the chance to sit in on a Comm Sq/CC COC and one of his citations read: upgraded the morale drive with over XX gbs of movies. REALLY???

The email I got since I am on this VML is that they will take volunteers with a minimum of 2 years on station. If the MC-12 is something you want to do, read the MC-12 thread or ask around base, then talk to your DO. There is a chance that you may never go back to the Herk. Having just got back from the Afghan land flying the C-130 I can tell you that the MC-12 guys fly their butt off. I have a few buds that have done the C-130 to MC-12 thing and some have enjoyed it and others have not. Send me a PM and I will give you their names.

Since there are a 1000+ people at Pete's Place a night, good luck with downloading anything over 1 mb between dinner and midnight. I'm pretty sure transient and permanent party share the same internet.

Is this just for copilots or does this include new ACs as well?

I thought they were called rip-its? Towards the end of my deployment I would need two just to get out of bed

Dude awesome pics! Thanks for sharing.

I remember seeing in some pics in a post of Bagram before the shoe clerks invaded. Does anyone know where these were posted? I used the search function, but no such luck. Thanks!

What a great read! I had the privilege a few years ago of meeting the first man to break mach 3 in the SR-71. Can't remember his name though

Actually I fly the Legacy Herk, my screen name is weatherman because I enjoy (enjoyed) studying the weather.

I'll be crossing the pond soon and was wondering if any Herk guys had some good gouge on crossing the Atlantic. Thanks!

I'm gunna go ahead and put my flame suit on and say that the dudes in your class who want any flavor of a C-130 should have gone to Corpus if they wanted to fly turboprops. I can understand if they put corpus first and did not get it but to want a herk or any variant out of a T-1 is shafting the Corpus studs who really wanted a C-130. End Rant...But if you and your friends are looking for advice, tell as many people as possible in your squadron that you want herks or U-28s. Talk to any IP who flew a C-130 and pick their brain for information. Best of luck on your assignment! WxMan

For me, I comissioned in late April, went active middle of May and went to my casual base for six months before I PCSd to Laughlin in December of the same year to start UPT. So for me I had a 7 month wait before my EAD and UPT. I really think its a shame the Air Force got rid of the casual status at other bases because it gives you a great opportunity to see the "Air Force" before going to a UPT base. Now granted I went to Maxwell for casual, but I had an awesome job working for the Wing King and got a great head start compared to my other bros sitting on their ass at Laughlin. My 2 cents. WxMan

Classic Thread - Security Forces (SFS) Tales
WeatherManC130 replied to Ferg's topic in General Discussion
Not really a story, but funny none the less: Anyone familar with LRAFB knows about our DWI problem. At each entrance there is a board that records the last DWI. The goal is to go 60 days without a DWI and we get a day off from work. I think I heard that we have not had a day off in like 3 years. Anyway, this past weekend who sets the example of getting a DWI? Thats right none other than the 19th SFS. So next time they pull you over you may want to ask them if they would submit to a field sobriety test!! Karma is a b*tch! -
3 on the tacform checkride, by far the best ride in pilot training. Having just come from Corpus, I can say that I enjoyed my time with VT-31. 31 seemed to have more maintenance problems (lots of times we had no aircraft to fly). I think part of it was the transition from A model to C model (I was A model btw). It was also curious to see that VT-31 guys finished higher than VT-35 guys. May have been just a coincidence, but its hard to say. Other than that, enjoy your time at Corpus! Live on the island, go to the beach and party it up at Pelicans on the weekends.

I had a guy in my Field Training flight that did both Army and Air Force ROTC. Make sure you check the schedules of their PT and leadership labs so they don't conflict. I think if you work hard at it for the first semester and their was no scheduling conflicts, you should be able to pull it off. However, I would reccomend if the units are crosstown to reconsider your decision. As far as the flying goes? My dad was in the Navy and I choose the Air Force route. My dad actually told me to go Air Force because of the better lifestyle. Though I was little when my dad was in the Navy, I think the tempo remains pretty much the same: you are gone 6-9 months on "cruise" and even as an officer you have to share a room with 5-6 other bros. The Navy does have some cool planes, but the lifestyle is not for me. Hope this helps! WxMan
